nice....dont get me wrong i like the airbus A380 its defintely been a great experience with that airplane in its few years of service but the 747 intercontinental is as luxury at technology at its best its classic just became a hybrid and the 747 will once again prove that it can CHANGE and be as modern.........
Regarding the Boeing verses Airbus debate, Boeing 747, debut in 1967, first plane went into service in 1969, production 1000+ of all variants to date. Airbus A380, debut maybe five years ago, total production was 26+ at last count. I think Boeing might know a thing or two about engineering Jumbo jets since they have a 44 year head start. That being said I don't really care for the interior mock up presented, first class looks like an office full of cubicles, sterile and has a cold feel to it.
The windows are rounded here like the 787, but unfortunately the actual interior walls are the same as the old 747's. They're not dimmable either. Whats up with that Boeing?
@DeputyFifey Wings on all aircraft bend during flight. If the wings were stif then the flight would be very turbulant. The wings are like that for the -8 because it increases range and better streamlines the wings making the aircraft more aerodynamic. I'm sure the wings had to be re-designed to carry the extra weight of the engines or at least re-designed for something because they seem to be a lot larger than those used on prievious models.
@DeputyFifey The dimensions of this plane differ from the ones of 747-400...SIR! if you paid a little more attention you would get to know how the new engine technology affects the efficiency and effectiveness of this beautiful JET from Boeing :)....no wonder the 747-400 is also an amazing addition to modern day flying but this ones definitely replaces that too ...!
@DeputyFifey Wings and there bent are not the only thing that might make this airplane a little less safer in the skies it could be the combination of few more structural flaws that could do a damage to the plane in a very destructive way but as a concern of that accordingly keeping all that in mind the wing flex of the plane and its structure really go together its a complete masterpiece of a modern day flying 747-8i is going to be a beauty in the skies !
@ashwinbhat123 probably loads better cos everyone in the economic market dont want such a huge plane such as a380 and this is beutiful, the a380 just looks like a double decker version of the a340-600 with modifications. this new 747-8 is basically a redesign apart from shape of fuselage cos the fuselage' materials have been upgraded too, so this is a totally brand new plane, like identical to a 787 dreamliner inside and technology wise, like it has FBW, all new flight deck, and ost 787 tech.
@23961alex I think it depends on airliners who use them. I believe the shower was being thought about in the 787 but not sure now. I don't think that there will be much of a target market for the showers.
@ConcordeCentral i think boeing will eventually get rid of the blinds in the 747-8 but in another variation of it, maybe 747-9 or something like that.
@ConcordeCentral it'll be sad when the 747 series comes to an end. such a nice aircraft, i only been on a 747-443 series with virgin atlantic and its the best plane i travelled on. they completely redesign the 747 and make the fuselage out of composites like with the 787 and make it a double decker but still keep it called the 747, such as the 747 ecoliner or something. i belive thier replacing the 737 with a 200+ seat composite twin aisle jet for short haul. thatd be great, no more single aisle
@ConcordeCentral also they said this 747 will last about 15-20 years with all its technology currently, so the 747 in total would be 62 years old. and that is a record if it does happen. imagine what a triple aisle would be like hey much larger than a380.
@Jinti42 yeah thats what it is basically, a double decker 787 dreamliner, better than any a380, yeah the a380's size is impressive but in this economic crisis theirs just no need for such a big plane, i mean this carries 467 in 3 class config so if it was operated in a 1 class this would probs carry over 500 passengers but us passengers want luxury aircraft like this nowadays and not huge like a380. i also heard boeing are thinking of a shower as a future option in 787, and that shower dries u 2
@oscarfishlover01 im not sure but the frieght version has recently had its first takeoff so maybe the intercontinental will fly for the first time later this year and maybe in service in a couple of years time
@jfbenzl Because they are a really cheap airline. Instead of flying our American Airlines, I would look at the European airlines such as Lufthansa. Or, look at the higher end American airlines like Continental, or Virgin USA. Hope I answered your question! And even if United did order a 747-8, they would replace the upper deck with just more seats. Boeing is just trying to show the best possible aircraft.
Well Continental doesn't fly 747s either. What gets me is that United has a good record flying these planes and instead they are downsizing their fleet with twin engine aircraft. Clearly their hub in Tokyo supports 747 traffic. They're being short sighted if they really wrote it off.
@jfbenzl yeah and there are loads of airports around the world that can handle the weight of the -8 (alot more than the a380) so it would be silly to keep loads of -400's as the -8 can go furthur, is larger and more fuel friendly sure it will cost a bit but it wont take long to get the money back if you are a large airline
Boeing can knock anything Airbus right outta the sky, starting from FL400!!! Airbus AKA Scare-bus. screw that lol
Dont get me wrong people!! I have respect for the people of airbus and the work they put into their planes. however a380 is already having technical problems. They have even declared 1 emergency so far and counting. My personal preference is Boeing. This new 747-8 is a great continuation of the science put into the 787 Dreamliner. GO BOEING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahah you so right Scare bus it is! The A380 is experiencing a lot of problems to the point that some have been grounded by none other than Air France ;-) The 747 has been flying for nearly 40 years now and is still and always will be the queen of the skies! GO BOEING!!!
@whitireia Design flaws... do you read the news on Mars? The 747-8F has been flying for a while now with huge orders already for the Freighter. The Intercontinental model is only due for release next year so check your facts.
@calasite On Earth I assure you. Are you sure you're not from Mars???
The 747-8F has design flaws discovered during flight testing (source: Flaws to delay first 747-8 for six months). I suggest you do a little research before trying to prove me wrong.
This has delayed the 747-8F yet again from entering service, best estimate Q2 2011.
Cough cough - I suggest you check your facts because the 747-8F has not even been FAA aproced or completed flight testing due to the design flaw.
@whitireia It's hilarious how cheesy andy immature you are, thanks for the laugh. I don'w know what design flaws you are talking about but all reports say that the plane has thus far faired well in testing with no major design flaws. Hardly anything to worry about. They would need to be more worried about the A380's anti-stall 'protection' pushing it into the ground like it did with that first A319 flight at the Paris air show x-D Get real...
Try a Google search for: 'Flaws to delay first 747-8 for six months'
Quote: "The Chicago-based manufacturer is also adding a fifth plane to its flight-test fleet. The company said it discovered a low-frequency vibration during certain flight conditions as well as problems with the performance of the aileron actuator, which helps the aircraft turn..."
You just dont like Airbus - your comments are completely bias. You should give the A380 the benefit of the doubt - it makes you look ignorant!
@calasite here's another source do a google search for "Boeing Delays New 747-8 Freighter"
Quote: "The new delivery schedule was set after Boeing made certain discoveries during recent test flights, including a low-frequency vibration in certain flight conditions and an underperforming aileron actuator. Boeing said neither issue requires structural design changes, but they have disrupted certification testing that necessarily disrupted the delivery schedule. "
@calasite another source 'Boeing delays first delivery of 747-8 Freighter'
Quote: "The plane flew for the first time in February. Since then, Boeing has discovered issues, including a low-frequency vibration under certain flight conditions.
Boeing said the problems have disrupted certification testing but would require no structural changes to the 747 itself.
The delays to the 747 and 787 schedules have drawn criticism from customers, who are growing tired of the problems.'
@calasite and one more source for good measure 'Boeing Delays 747-8 Another Six Months to Mid 2011'
Quote: "Engineers are testing software this week to correct unwanted oscillation, or vibration, during flight. They’re also redesigning the inboard aileron actuator, a system on the wings that helps the plane turn, after it moved up and down unexpectedly on one of the jets during testing."
@whitireia So what if it is delayed by a few months its a small delay compared to the year delay the A380 had whilst they tried to get that piece of shit sorted. Hmm lets see A380, grounded for fuel problems, wiring problems, technical glitches. Grounded they say... at least the 747-8 is flying with minimal issues ;-) it can actually get off the ground without suffering a fuel problem or the like.
@calasite besides before you were saying that the 747-8F was already flying in service.
The 747-8F is grounded until they fix the design flaws. You've got it all ass backwards.
The A380 is actually proving to be very reliable for a new aircraft. Airbus are now producing Wave 2 A380s which have the wiring installed as originally intended (robotically), and are two tons lighter than Wave 1 A380s.
@whitireia You best get your eyes checked, I never said it was already in service, I said it had many orders already placed and that testing thus far has gone by without any serious problems. The small problems with the 747-8 will hardly ground it for an extended period of time. An you're right, why would anyone like the A380 or Airbus. The french can't even make cars now you want to fly in an aeroplane designed and built by them? BRAVE if you ask me. Boeing has a far better track record!
@whitireia I realise that this was just to show you that your A380 is no piece of perfection either... not the way you make it out to be. The plane is still young, I have no doubt it will experience a multitude of other failures related to its design.
@whitireia True that, the fact that they have not had any lives lost thus far is an attribute to them but then again there are still many years ahead of it.
@whitireia oh look a Qantas A380 engine blew up on take off... yet another grounding of the A380 this is a year or so after being put into service... hardly the safe plane you make it out to be!! Source MSN news
@whitireia I'm sure you will find like with most aircraft, once it starts its flight testing and international flights the orders will increase dramatically
@whitireia the 747 has been proving its worth since the 1960/70's and since then im sure boeing have had customer feedback and all that feedback has been collected to be made into the 747-200 -300 -400 and -8. the range of the -8i is only around 200nm less than the a380 but it is supposedly going to be cheaper to run and boeing have designed it to be a lot more aerodynamic aware than prievious models! and anyway the a380 has had its problems im sure
To all you people who think you can compare the 747-8i to the A380 you're wrong. Boeing has already abandoned the 600+ seat market, because they KNOW Airbus is dominating (that very small) market segment. The 747-8i is replacing the old 747's. And although it has half the amount of orders, Boeing will be making a profit WAY before Airbus makes a profit on their A380. Why? It's a redesigning, not a new concept. Does anyone realize that there is no Airbus if Boeing did not exist? and vice versa.
It is unfortunate that they chose to call it the 747-8 rather then a 747-800. When I think of the term -8 or dash 8, I think of a crappily made Canadian propliner. I don't think of a modern jet aircraft that has been designed around the passenger.
the -8 sounds much more modern than -800, in my opinion. Oh, is the 777-series not designed around the passenger? It's the only aircraft to get an award for interior design.. =).
I think you have me wrong. Boeing has a wonderful reputation for designing safe, comfortable, and profitable aircraft. The airline I fly on in Canada flys only 737s. Why on Earth Boeing would choose to name any part of their manufactured product in a way that it can be confused with the "DASH 8" is beyond me.
Even Bombardier has stopped calling their crappy propliner aircraft the "DASH 8" because most passengers don't want the experience of flying in a "DASH 8."
That's a good point, and I'm glad to see you're one of the few people who realize Boeing makes safe planes. I never thought about the "Dash 8" thing, but in reality I think only people like us will even know the difference between a -400 and an -8. I doubt some people even know what a DeHavilland Dash 8 is, in this world they either say they flew on an Airbus, or a Boeing. As specific as they get it's usually just 747, A380, or *maybe* T7.
im a little confused? im getting the impression that your just a passenger... if your a pilot speak now or forever hold your peace:)
assuming you're a pilot how could you of flown both the 747 and gone to the a380, decided you've not liked it and then come back to the 747... airlines dont work like that and neither does the type rating system...
Sometimes, it is unnecessary to create a new concept when an existing idea is already ideal. Have you realized that Airbus will probably never break-even? But that Boeing will break-even? I don't think it's better when it causes your beloved company to dry out its resources.
nice....dont get me wrong i like the airbus A380 its defintely been a great experience with that airplane in its few years of service but the 747 intercontinental is as luxury at technology at its best its classic just became a hybrid and the 747 will once again prove that it can CHANGE and be as modern.........

@calasite ahh that was an a380?? all i heard was 'super jumbo' but it never ocurred to me it was the a380
ConcordeCentral 1 year ago
@whitireia I'm sure you will find like with most aircraft, once it starts its flight testing and international flights the orders will increase dramatically
ConcordeCentral 1 year ago
@ConcordeCentral the facts clearly put the A380 ahead of the 747-8.
The A380 is more economical than the 747-8, has a larger cabin, bigger pax capacity, more range, and a lower approach (135knts) and takeoff speed.
The 747-8 is just a warmed over 747-400 where as the A380 is an all new airframe with significant aerodynamic design advantages.
To put it simply the A380 is better. Lufthansa and Emirates recently done a comparitive study and both concluded that the A380 was better.
whitireia 1 year ago
@whitireia the 747 has been proving its worth since the 1960/70's and since then im sure boeing have had customer feedback and all that feedback has been collected to be made into the 747-200 -300 -400 and -8. the range of the -8i is only around 200nm less than the a380 but it is supposedly going to be cheaper to run and boeing have designed it to be a lot more aerodynamic aware than prievious models! and anyway the a380 has had its problems im sure
ConcordeCentral 1 year ago
@ConcordeCentral that's all true and I agree with.
The difference is the A380 was born using technologies of today.
The 747 was born using technologies dervied in the 1960s.
Obviously the all new A380 is using more up-to-date aviation technologies.
Boeing has however invested much less into the 747-8 (2 - 3 billion) where as Airbus have invested something like 17 - 20billion.
Boeing is likely to break even way before Airbus does.
There's no doubt the 747 and A380 are great aircraft.

Ken Price was made redundant some time ago and is now involved in the sale of plastic cocks and bullshit.

Does anyone realize that there is no Airbus if Boeing did not exist? and vice versa.

i disagree this one looks defiantly more futuristic

The B747-8 will become the longest passenger jet!
TennisChamp59 2 years ago 2
It is unfortunate that they chose to call it the 747-8 rather then a 747-800. When I think of the term -8 or dash 8, I think of a crappily made Canadian propliner. I don't think of a modern jet aircraft that has been designed around the passenger.
richmondrk 2 years ago
yeah and i dnt like the word intercontinental too long to spell lol
ConcordeCentral 2 years ago
Haha LOL, crappily made Canadian Propliner... ur right
hatakekakashi1914 2 years ago
the -8 sounds much more modern than -800, in my opinion. Oh, is the 777-series not designed around the passenger? It's the only aircraft to get an award for interior design.. =).
scaremenga 2 years ago
yeah the 777 is amazing but i guess the -8 does sound better than the 800 but -8i is this too much?
ConcordeCentral 2 years ago
I think you have me wrong. Boeing has a wonderful reputation for designing safe, comfortable, and profitable aircraft. The airline I fly on in Canada flys only 737s. Why on Earth Boeing would choose to name any part of their manufactured product in a way that it can be confused with the "DASH 8" is beyond me.
Even Bombardier has stopped calling their crappy propliner aircraft the "DASH 8" because most passengers don't want the experience of flying in a "DASH 8."
richmondrk 2 years ago 3
That's a good point, and I'm glad to see you're one of the few people who realize Boeing makes safe planes. I never thought about the "Dash 8" thing, but in reality I think only people like us will even know the difference between a -400 and an -8. I doubt some people even know what a DeHavilland Dash 8 is, in this world they either say they flew on an Airbus, or a Boeing. As specific as they get it's usually just 747, A380, or *maybe* T7.

@richmondrk All of the boeing range have -300 ect, this is just a number of difrrent variations?

they didnt say it was safer

the a380 is still better though:P
a brand new plane, not just a stretch of a stretch like the 8,
ansettaddict123 3 years ago
but the 747-8 will be a better competitor than the 747-400
ConcordeCentral 3 years ago
The A380 is flawed mate. Take it from someone who's actually FLOWN on one.
Airmilez 2 years ago
well good for you, go and fly the 747 if you dont like it:P and fyi, ive FLOWN one too!!!!
ansettaddict123 2 years ago
I've flown on 747's my entire life, pal. Nice try.
Airmilez 2 years ago
im a little confused? im getting the impression that your just a passenger... if your a pilot speak now or forever hold your peace:)
assuming you're a pilot how could you of flown both the 747 and gone to the a380, decided you've not liked it and then come back to the 747... airlines dont work like that and neither does the type rating system...
ansettaddict123 2 years ago
I AM a passenger. I never said I was a pilot.
Airmilez 2 years ago
You flew it? Or you flew on it?..
scaremenga 2 years ago
Flew on it.
Airmilez 2 years ago
Sometimes, it is unnecessary to create a new concept when an existing idea is already ideal. Have you realized that Airbus will probably never break-even? But that Boeing will break-even? I don't think it's better when it causes your beloved company to dry out its resources.
