  • Could this be done without an offset smoker? I have a grill thats similar to yours (it's a 55 gallon drum on its side basically) minus the smoke box. My thinking is I could out the fire on one side and the bird on the other basically cooking with indirect heat/smoke.

  • @Dzigner210 That is exactly how it is done...indirect heat and smoke. I posted a video last week of me teepee smoking a turkey and it is the same principle. If you get a chance check it out. If you have a heat thermometer just try and keep the heat under 200 degrees for 6-8 hours. I posted 250 in the video and it was too hot.

  • Going to part 2 now lol :)

  • I have never smoked a turkey we normaly fry them there is a seasonion here that comes w/ an injection merinade also we buy the butter cerole I bet it would be awsome done in a smoker also have you see the grill thermomators you stick it in the meat your cooking run the lead out of the grill set your temp or time you wanna take it off and an alarm gose off once that temp or time is reached

  • I know I've asked this before, but, what times dinner?

  • Ever thought about brining a bird?

  • @sonnysand I just saw that about 6 months ago. This woman placed a bird in a cooler with spices and fruit and it looked very good. We have done brine with wild game like deer and dove and it turns out great, but never tried it with a turkey. Maybe next time I will try the brine, thanks.
