  • In the beginning: this gonna be legen... wait for it

The end of the movie: ...DARY!

  • I remember watching it, then getting to this part, and thinking.... WHAT JUST HAPPENED?... THAT WAS AWESOME. THAT WAS SAD. HOLY FREAKING CRAP. Mind= blown

  • 1:19 ... YES

  • i love it when you cant see the dislike bar!!!

  • At 1:53 ... WTF? ZIGGY STARDUST?

  • @RoseOfPhantom no it's just Dead Bowie

  • @RoseOfPhantom Nope...it's just Chuck Testa.

  • I love how with all the dressing up and doing evil stuff in the end it just shows how he really feels. Sad.

  • i love the cliffhanger it leaves you with its like...wait was it a dream! a nightmare! into the the future like... WHAT!?

  • i actually almost cried when we watched this in creative writting class i hasd hold back tears

    ...is that sad?

  • @FunStuff141 It's not sad, I never NEVER cry at films, and even this almost made me tear up.

  • @ValhallaProduction11 i cry quite a bit

  • NPH <3

  • Will there be a sequel????????

  • I still don't know if the whole movie was a dream or something, because the ending makes it seem like that.

  • @ShadowGlove84 no he was singing about it it was after the meeting so ya it wasnt a dream or wat ev

  • I want that techno version that starts around 01:30 at full length.. I would even pay. If anyone knows if there is one please respond. Thank you.

  • ok if anyone called that bad horse was a horse then tell me because I didn't see that one coming... and he looks like an evil horse to....

  • @LazerDude99 I don't know why, or how, but I thought he was a horse the whole time. ._. I actually wondered why people had thought otherwise. XD

  • @michelle192837 I don't know it is just I never thought a Horse could be evil

  • @LazerDude99 my sis sead "look at the cut horsy isnt he lokin evil " or somt in like dat i wory screem is her hero

  • He's going to turn us all into clones of him! He's making the whole world Neil!

  • When I first saw this I thought Bad Horse was that guy in the blue suit and hat, but no. It was an ACTUAL HORSE. I think I either laughed or had a bit of shock or maybe both.

  • @LegoAlchemist13 Ikr? It makes u wonder whether it happened or not......it's te best endin ever!

  • Biggest twist ending of all time. Love the songs and film.

  • has joss whedon come out with any new shows lately?

  • @thedougman2008 He's wrote and directed "The Avengers" for Marvel, but as for shows "Dollhouse" is the only thing he's been a major part of lately.

  • @Emerl1000 lately??... i havent seen any new shows pop up on hulu for like 2 years... but then hulu hasnt really been doing much more me lately but oh well.

  • It's not about making money, it's about taking money. It's about breaking the status quo, because the status is NOT quo.

  • So.... Penny's last words were "Don't worry Billy, Captain hammer will save us" When she clearly saw Captain hammer try to kill Dr Horrible... and did she run in front of the gun so BIlly wouldn't die... or did the gun explode? SO CONFUSED!! HURRY UP AND MAKE THE SEQUEL!!!

  • @FredFreek678 The gun exploded and she saw Captain Hammer going to kill the bad guy but when she saw him closer she was thinking of her best friend Billy not Dr. Horrible.

  • Wait... I"M SO CONFUSED!!!!

  • @PrincessJinx100 there's going to be a sequel. The apparently dejected Horrible at the end is a cliffhanger (a very good one at that).

  • The tragety that everyone cried over wasn't Penny's death...It was Captain Hammer being beaten?!! Okay, that's it- I need to clean out the gene pool of these idiots.

  • Am I the only one that gets Goosebumps at 1:37 when he gets his new suit??

  • @emilejr88 nope, looks super epic

  • 1:21->1:37... I just feel ..bliss.

  • why arent all movies as good as this...

  • @GMFinntroll Cause not all movies have NPH in them. :P

  • This is heartbreaking. Penny is such a pure heart, she always sees the good in people, even if the good isn't there. C. Hammer was an egotistical jerk, but she still believed that the world is a good place and therefore C. Hammer had to be good. In the end, she refused to address him as "Doctor Horrible" and instead called him Billy. Penny embodies the pure innocence that is inevitably destroyed in the world.

Whereas Penny is purity, Billy is the Romantic. And all Romantics... end in tragedy.

  • the first time I saw this I shat myself when they showed Bad Horse.

  • does more of the song at 1:22 exist?

  • @beccaaa346 I *think* it's just a slow, techno-y version of part of the melody of "Brand New Day".

  • @beccaaa346 it's called "brand new day"

  • it's called "brand new day" and it's also in the movie

  • Comment removed

  • My dad thought that this was all a dramatization of his life. Of how he was "Dr. Horrible". Because at the very last second he's wearing normal clothes and such. makes sense to me

  • @charliechapstick3000 An interesting theory, but its probably more likely that it is Billy who feels trapped in the role that his now alter-ego has placed him into, besides they're making a sequel by this point so its a bit unlikely that "it was all a dream" or something similar is the end result now that they've decided on a sequel.

  • @HighPriestFuneral Didnt know they were making a second..

  • lol Bad Horse is an actual horse XD

  • Amazing. Touching. And... just amazing. (Though I also can't get over the fact how hot NPH looks in red xD)

  • Almost cried at this ending.... The best!!!

  • I orgasmed as soon as he said "a thing". Gosh, that is the best ending.

  • @Cuyeful sounds interesting :P

  • Why does he remind me of Gordon Ramsay?

  • I love this. I know this movie is a comedy, but it's really deep too. Neil Patric Harris is just to die for

  • I might be considered as a freak, but... I undestand dr. Terrible, because i happen to be feeling the same. The infinite power, the joy of destruction, the majesty of control, but... one word can break me. And I never cry. I can't. Am I a bad person?

  • @NorekCieMa it's Doctor Horrible and he did not revel in destruction and chaos for the reason you think. Throughout the movie he showed concern for others and hesitated at even killing his arch nemesis even after finding a deeper, greater resolve to do it. His goal was to most likely incite the people to overthrow a broken system for their own good by uncovering dark truths. And to answer your question, I believe you are not a bad person unless you knowingly give into carnal instincts.

  • Every time I see him putting on the red suit, all I can think is "Suit up!"

  • Neil Patrick Harris is my favouritest actor in the whole world this song is a reflection of his truly amazing talent!

  • @Zypher147 The horse pulled me out of the moment the first time I watched this, though. It's so ridiculous I just did a double take and started laughing.

It's a deep song but it doesn't mean this wasn't meant to have dark humor. Otherwise Captain Hammer at a therapist and mourning for "What's-Her-Name" wouldn't be shown, and Bad Horse would have been shown earlier. It's a tragicomedy.

  • @TheAceAcetate it may be a historical quotation of Caligula

he nominated his own horse member of the senate

  • i believe everbodys nightmare came true in this song. the world will be ruled by the EVIL LEAGE OF EVIL and Dr.Horrible's dream girled died and he'll never feel her true love....i could be wrong

  • @Zypher147 Lighten up, it's a tragicomedy, enjoy it while people die.

  • @WolfRiderAlice Though I really think you'd enjoy the movie, here's the rundown on Penny's death: At the event where Capt. Hammer spoke, Dr. H showed up with a freeze ray to kill him with his death ray. His freeze ray malfunctions and Hammer gets the upper hand. He takes the death ray, which was actually busted and tries to shoot Dr. H. It backfires and explodes - shards everywhere. Some shards hit Penny and killed her. YOU SHOULD WATCH IT!!

  • Towards the beginning, it was sad. Then, it started to get intense and badass. I was getting that diabolical feel from it. Then.....the last four seconds...... :'(

  • WTF Joss? I was expecting to be entertained, and for the first 38 minutes I was entertained. I was laughing out loud right up until you made me want to curl up in a ball and cry. I should have known better, considering the way you toyed with my emotions in Serenity.

  • With Penny's death...Billy ceased to exist...and Doctor Horrible took his place. Now the persona is Billy instead. It's kind of sad how it switched around on him. Such a hollow victory I suppose is the fate for all villains.

  • He looks better with the glasses on his forehead.

  • the song is called "Everything you Ever"

  • it didnt start at the beginninggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I got goosebumps when he said '' now the nightmare is real''

  • ...am I the only one who thinks that Horrible did join the League, but then realized that, without Penny, he's an empty sort of person, and the League holds no meaning for him anymore, and so he quit? Or is that reading too deep?

  • @TFluver no thats reading just deep enough. He got everything he ever wanted but without Penny it's a hollow victory and it has left him a hollow man.

  • @Rictorran That's... that's actually pretty much EXACTLY what I said.

  • @TFluver I dont think he quit the ELE, but just that behind the spiffy red suit and diabolical goggles, there's an average guy who lost the girl he's always wanted and feels utter guilt. Ironic that the more success he gets with the ELE, the more he lost Penny.

  • The ending to this is FUCKING DEVASTATING.

  • steampunk goggles ftw

  • Hey.

    That's Niel Patrick Harris.

Click a random video and I get Niel Patrick Harris.

  • Can someone explain the ending to me?

Like where it cuts to him..looking really sad.. in his "blogging" area..lab.. idk

This song just makes me want to cry...

  • @dux14 if you listen to the lyrics beforehand it's "And I won't feel" and he says "A thing" it's suppose to be that now that penny's gone he's cut himself off from emotion (besides like angry or similar ones)

  • I get the chills with the voices in the background singing "everything you ever..."?

    Haunting.

  • @srg3t Yeah, I definitely get that "weird" feeling. I think the voice is supposed to be Penny saying "Everything you ever..." almost as if she was going to say "wanted", but everything Billy ever wanted was Penny, and Penny is gone, just like the ending of that line.

    Deep.

  • @Ohabloog You made me cry.

  • @srg3t the first time I watched this I got chills at the end when he goes "I won't feel.........a thing."

  • @srg3t second time they sing its even more epic because it brings you back to the "it's not ok" state

  • I love the part from 1:20 to the end it's so AWESOME :D

  • What does Captain Hammer say at 1:13 anyway i can never understand that

  • @PallatontheBeta I think he says "And he" or "it hit my eye" and continues crying

  • @PallatontheBeta Something about how "It hit my eye" and "it hurt real bad" sort of stuff. The kind of thing a little kid would say to his mom.

  • I think it's more tragic that she died because she blindly believed in Hammer, because he was the 'good' guy. A real kick in the heart strings.

  • It was a wonderful portrayal. Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) fulfilled a role as a douche bag hero, as he was supposed to. Neil Patrick Harris had his saddest line, after Penny had been killed, "and I won't feel a thing", meaning he's learned to shut off all his emotions to achieve his social goals. Ironic, when Penny sings, "The only doom that's looming is in loving me to death" (with Captain Hammer), when she dies thinking he will save her.

  • Chills every time.

  • Doctor horrible couldn't "not do" "Evil." The System was defined as "Good" and he saw the system as Broken. The rich getting richer, while the poor get pissed on. The "haves" robbing from the "have nots." and getting away with it because the Rich run the government. All billy wanted was a better world, but it was so beyond reach working in the system, that he had to work outside the system. If the System was "Good," he wold be "Evil."

  • @WBGrock I don't think Billy actually had any political goals on that level, he just wished for anarchy or just a full change in modern society. If the world was what Penny wanted he would fight against that; he wants chaos and he takes pleasure from said chaos.

Even if he had an agenda Dr.Horrible/Billy cared nothing about helping "Have Nots", judging from "Anarchy, that I run. It's Dr.Horrible's turn, you people all have to learn this world is going to burn, burn"

  • @WBGrock I couldn't thumbs this up enough. It's good to see someone else understands this type of thing.

  • @WBGrock ah i see what you mean, so he disagrees with some of societys laws and expectations and whats allowed within the world thats completley corruprt but he still has morals which is why he cant kill captain hammer.

  • @WBGrock The general idea, yeah. He's got a "PhD in Horribleness" but the connotation of "Dr." is someone who -fixes- things. It might not be the easy or nice way. Chemists make messes. Surgeons get their hands dirty. And scientists in general are supposed to be objective. As a "doctor," there's still light in him, despite his -reddened- coat and his goggles covering the -emotions- his eyes would betray.

  • @WBGrock Finally, someone on youtube who seems to understand the story. He's doing the opposite of the broken system. There's barely an ounce of evil in his character. He couldn't even pull the trigger on Captain Hammer, even though he thought it would make the city better, and yet Hammer didn't hesitate. Even after being accepted into the evil league of evil, he puts no energy into his robbery, and he can't be evil. In the last shot he has no equipment and no suit. He just wants Penny back

  • @WBGrock exactly, all he waned was a better world. cant wait for number 2. :D

  • @TheCodymunk111 sry i no 2 only 1 i t got shot down or somthin after that 1

  • Wait a minute,

1:22 doesn't that guy with the purple boxing gloves remind me of someone?

  • is there a way to see it all in one video?

  • @HOTTESTHERE go to hulu.com, u shud be able to watch the whole thing there

  • @trickyryan88 well sadly i live in sweden and for some reson we cant go to hulu.com wich is total bull

  • I want more! I love Neil! I would love to do some singing/videos with him.

  • In the end of the song is so effective, the way he ends it without music and sitting in his room all alone and looking like he lost everything called feelings :O

  • Ahahahaha 1:13 - 1:18 I just love that the "hero" is in theraphy :D... PEACE OUT SUCKER!!! xD

  • Is it just me, or has Joss Whedon only had one couple in all of his stories that had a happy ending (Kaylee and Simon in Firefly/Serenity)?

  • @CobaltX07 Define a happy ending. Joss is pretty famous for pushing the envelope on the "Happy" ending. In Buffy, for example, they saved the world but he showed the real world cost of doing so. Likewise for Dr. Horrible. Billy had to lose what he wanted for Dr. Horrible to accomplish his goal. The whole Dr. Horrible series is about Billy being at war with his identity as Dr. Horrible, having to choose how far he'll go to get what he wants.

Joss is the king of the double edged sword.

  • @ZaiaFantasy I'm referring purely to romantic couples' happy endings. Joss is just downright cruel with them. Buffy, Xander, Willow, Angel, Anya, Spike, Billy/Dr. Horrible, Mal, Inara, Zoë, Wash, so many characters who end up having the most screwed up love lives ever. Once again, AFAIK, there's only one couple with an 'implied' happy ending.

  • @CobaltX07 Maybe Joss just doesn't believe in love as a real life happy ending. Who knows?

You're right, though. Most of the Joss characters I know of got put through the ringer for romance. It's pretty standard.

  • @CobaltX07 even the "happiest" in dollhouse wasnt really happy. man dies and now the man's memories and personality is in the girl's head, implanted. wth?

  • :O poor Dr.Horrible, he loved Penny but because of Hammer being a Douche she was killed.....poor thing :( I love you Dr. Horrable

  • This movie is awesome, because it portrays how a villain became like a psychopath, he didn't just wake up morning and think, "Hey, I'm gonna go kill people!!!"

And personally, I think he looks more evil with the goggles on his forehead then actually on his eyes.

  • @mochamann9 agreeed, he does look more evil with them on his forehead

  • @mochamann9 I think otherwise, he can look sad and upset without his evey covered. It de-humanises him when his eyes are covered. I think this might have been intentional though.

  • i dont think he was evil until the very end during the song because before he was fighting for something and at the end he lost everything so whats the point he shows that while he is robbing the bank and how he ends the song "Dr.horrible is here!"

  • isn't the title "Everything You Ever"? sorry if this has been said.

  • It makes you go from sad in the beginning to sort of funny when it says what's her name on the paper, then sad again because he's empty on the inside, then happy again when you see the Bad Horse henchmen, then sad again, then laugh at Bad Horse being an actual horse then sad at seeing that he is really still Billy on the inside and crushed. Man Joss Whedon... your good

  • I love the last shot. Whoever thought of that is wonderful. I'm a Broadway guy, but even I know that the 'big finish' doesn't always have to be actually big to have an impact. This was perfect for Billy's character. I hope I can be in a stage production of this someday - the show is amazing, start to finish. Long live Dr. Horrible!

  • The last shot kind of shows that, after all he did and all he lost to become a supervillain, he'll always be Billy, on his blog, the guy who didn't get the girl. And that would have changed if he had focused on being nice and honest to Penny instead of trying to force everyone else to fear him

  • It's interesting that if you look at all of the problems that led to Dr. Horrible's transformation for innocent to evil, you can trace them all back to Captain Hammer.

Dr. Horrible didn't want to kill people, he was a goofy guy who was just going to use a freeze ray, but because of Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible was forced to use violence, which caused him to kill penny and become evil.

So it makes me think, is the message that bad people doing good things forces good people to do evil things?

  • @Dufinator09 hammer didn't do good things to be a good guy, he actually has the motivations of a stereotypical supervillan. horrible just wanted social change, like batman, and spiderman, and the most glaringly similar roarshack.

  • @Dufinator09 It's like in Spiderman when Sandman stole the money and killed the man to just save his daughter from death. Maybe the criminals of this world really have a reason to do evil stuff.

  • @Lighter03 Everyone has a reason to do something. Doesn't always make it right. I mean if someone went and killed my wife or my daughter when shes born you better believe im gonna want to seek them out and exact revenge. But it's not always realistic, true strength lies in the ability to forgive not do wrong cause wrong was done to you... I guess when it comes down to it, the only evil in this world is the want to be human...

  • @jaythekingof thank u......so wise u are, that is exactly right

  • @Dufinator09 Well, he wanted to get into the League of Evil and the order to kill someone came from THEM. So in the end Horrible and Hammer are still responsible for their own choices in life.

  • I still can't figure out when he is happy or sad in this song

  • @PaiganGibbons He was horribly empty and depressed. When he's robbing the bank you can see how unmotivated he is.. and then at the end he says "I feel.. Nothing"

  • 1:29

At least Bad Horse's emissaries were invited.

  • @PaddyWanKanobi

    wtf?

  • i just noticed something when he said "the world i wanted lying at my feet." he was talking about penny as the last bit of light reflected off his goggles faded, and he truly became a supervillan.

  • @kingleviathan1 Nah, I think it was when he put on the blood-red costume.

I mean, he went from white (innocent) to red (bloodstained). Rather obvious symbolism there.

  • @Iyrsiiea no, the other guys right. the scene you refer to further reperesents this, but all is truly lost when his world lies at his feet

  • peter griffin said "we aren't horrible people...horses are horrible people" to u who laughed at him being crazy look at bad horse

  • O.o this movie is causing a whoel bunch o people get all philosophical!!! like kapactlovesu down there

  • @purplecookiellama so true

  • Dr. Horrible thought if he worked hard enough, he could achieve evil and still have his dream wife. If he had tried more to keep with Penny, he wouldnt still be evil, but i think if Captain Hammr hadn't done what he did, it would have been a happy life with Penny for Billy, and an evil one with Dr.Horrible. The real villan is the person that causes pain to others, and doesnt think it could come back to him.

  • But Dr. Horrible didn't kill the love of his life. Cpt. Hammer did when Dr. Horrible tried to tell him about the death ray malfunctioning.

  • @midgetclaw I think that is partially true; the mistake totally solidifies Cpt. Hammer as a negative element of the world, or perhaps an unreliable one at best, but Dr. Horrible's need to impress people is still partially responsible. He could have been more heroic if he ignored his pride and ambition and turned the other cheek, but without trying to do something for himself, Dr. Horrible would seem dull and pathetic. I think this dilemma is what provides the unique uneasiness of the conclusion.

  • @midgetclaw yes, true.At the end, i hate it how she says " Don't worry. Captain Hammer will save us, when Captain Hammer is the one who caused her the most pain.A funny, yet otherwise is a great love story underneath the musical. In conclusion, great plot (twists).

  • i was so stoked when i heard felicia day was in this. Now i'm depressed....

  • Comment removed

  • a thing...

  • @kjjejones42 yeah. at the end, he realizes he doesnt have a heart of complete evil

  • i love how at 1:22 the song you hear is "Brand new day "

  • In attendance at the Evil League of Evil

Bad Horse : The Thoroughbred of Sin. Fear his Death Whinny

Professor Normal : His robot jaw and arm compensate for his otherwise completely average life.

Tie-Die : Possesses the power to make hippies angry

Dead Bowie : In actuality, the real David Bowie who was killed in 1980. All appearences of Bowie in public since have been merely a cunning disguise.

Thomas Jefferson : Has super strength, a poisoned quill, and empty pockets.

  • @kjjejones42 Hahaha! That's awesome

  • @kjjejones42 you forgot snake bite and fury leika

  • @kjjejones42 Dont Forget Dr. Horrible! =)

  • @kjjejones42 what about the girl to the right of evil horse?

  • @kjjejones42 what about the girl on the left? I think it's a girl XD the one they didn't do a close up of?

  • badass ending.

  • Page 3

The humanity remains no matter how bad we are. We lose everything by throwing away morals and ethics for passion, for free choice not to do good. Reality sets in when he says "A thing". Naturally he was only human. He didn't have to do the bad things, and he's Billy, the human in the end, not Dr. Horrible, the angel.

  • Page 2

Humanity: Penny: Free choice, now your world is mine. Who Billy engages. I had to do bad things and because of that people got hurt, creating another fallen angel, a sinner I guess. We overhaul the system, he's there to remind us that we should think about morals and ethics, (Fire up your brain) he was there as an angel, a messenger. Then to succumb to Horribleness. To fall. To become Satan. Then the humanity of Satan being cast into hell.

  • Is he an angel who becomes Satan? Like, Satan was a fallen angel. (I'm sure most are aware. lol.) My friend said like in Legion, Angels can hate. They're human, but with the power a divine messenger possesses. Power. (Power corrupts etc.) (Captain Hammer's T shirt is grey etc.) Power such as the freeze ray, but fallen angels, drove him to become bad himself

  • at 1:53 ....is that....is that suposed to be ziggy stardust?!

  • @IrishZombie77 It's Dead Bowie (as said in the credits).

  • @Mekose lol god thats funny, starteled the hell out of me after the 5th time watching it XD

  • i love the brand new day reprise during the party scene...

  • I kind of wish Dr. Horrible was a real guy so I could follow his Vlog.

I would subscribe to his channel.

  • @Demauscian me too

  • @Demauscian me to :P

  • 1:39 SUIT UP.

  • @MadameCynosure haha thats my fav show

  • i watched this movie at the end of a real bad day and it made me so happy. its such a little movie thats surprisingly funny and heartfelt with a good message =)

  • I love the party scene an unhealthy amount
