It occured to me then that white people don't really have a problem with things like this because it works to their advantage- shows them on top. M. Night didn't get anything right. It was rushed, clumsy, there was no research put into it. It's jumbled and sloppy, nothing is ever developed. I liked the show and as a fan this movie was hard, no painful (I mean that literally) painful to sit through.
The movie reminds me so much of the Ember Island Players episode. I almost guarantee that the producers of the movie didn't ever even watch the show. I totally agree with you that it's almost like a spoof.

@dorkyforever The Show was based on the Idea of Japanese/ Chinese cultures. When thinking of the Chinese/ Japanese language you must keep in mind that the "A" sound is long. Therefore Aang will sound like Aung. This is correct. Nickalodeon has no idea how Chinese/ Japanese characters sound. Think about it, Kitara doesnt sound like "Kitaray" You know why? Because the name is asian.

I knew it was going to suck as soon as I found out M. Shite Shyamoron was doing it. Second clue was when I couldn't find anything on the guy playing Aang. Finally when I knew about the rest of the cast I prepared for another DBE. Then when the long HD trailers came out I knew they put too much in them and that the actual movie would suck.
I realized it sucked when I saw the trailers, a couple of things were pointed out:
1. Emo Aang, like you said
2. They try to impress us with cg-i enhanced cut scenes and not enough storyline, I'm sure people who were unfamiliar with the show had NO IDEA what the movie was about.
3. And of course, white-washing like you already mentioned.

I was expecting this movie to be the best of this summer only to find out that its worst that Dragonball Evolution. 8% is reall harsh and before the movie came out, I was expecting at least a over 50% on Rotton Tomatoes for the last airbender.

I think the director was trying to go for Asian pronunciations for the names.
"Ang" in Chinese is pronounced "Ong" so I guess he derived that pronunciation from that. Still don't think that's an excuse though :/

i thought that it was going to be OK at first, because I knew that MNS was a fan. But waht the hell was he thinking? They can't even pronounce the characters' names right! The acting is wooden and stagnant at best! You never once feel connected to the movie and they changed absolutely everything that made the original show worth watching. I will never understand why any creator or writer of a work gives up their input on a movie, because whenever they do, the movie absolutely sucks!

@dorkyforever The Show was based on the Idea of Japanese/ Chinese cultures. When thinking of the Chinese/ Japanese language you must keep in mind that the "A" sound is long. Therefore Aang will sound like Aung. This is correct. Nickalodeon has no idea how Chinese/ Japanese characters sound. Think about it, Kitara doesnt sound like "Kitaray" You know why? Because the name is asian.

Are you saying that having the names pronounced correctly is his way of making up for the lack of Asian actors and actresses? Though, I don't think I would've minded what ethnicity they were as long as they were at least good actors/actresses. But, in my opinion, the actors couldn't even portray the characters right.

I knew it was going to suck as soon as I found out M. Shite Shyamoron was doing it. Second clue was when I couldn't find anything on the guy playing Aang. Finally when I knew about the rest of the cast I prepared for another DBE. Then when the long HD trailers came out I knew they put too much in them and that the actual movie would suck.

I realized it sucked when I saw the trailers, a couple of things were pointed out:
1. Emo Aang, like you said
2. They try to impress us with cg-i enhanced cut scenes and not enough storyline, I'm sure people who were unfamiliar with the show had NO IDEA what the movie was about.
3. And of course, white-washing like you already mentioned.

I was actually expecting this movie to turn out good. Not great but good, you know?....Then I found out M.Night was directing it. I gave up hope right there. I wanted to go see Despicable Me but instead we ended up with this crappy movie!
AANG (M.Night has hearing, seeing, and directing failures) was supposed to be the happy, funny, and kind little kid not some depressed monk. If they really are going to make 3 more movies... I pray. I PRAY for a different director!! ...I'm really disappointed.

Also when i watched it the best part of the movie was Dun dun dun dun!!!!! When i was critisizing about the movie with this guy.But the cast did work very hard on the movie, me and my brother were watching Avatar revealed i was like omg they worked that hard for a 3 hour movie and about 30 ppl know and i was like really dissapointed and sad since they worked 100% hard but it came out terrible.In fact just watching the last airbender revealed was more fun than the 3 hour movie!

I sorta thought it might be bad when I learned M. Night Shyamalan was directing but I though I'd give him a break. Then I saw the first trailer, and it didn't seem that appealing (as you mentioned, we barely see Aang, or any other recognizable or funny characters) and i saw other trailers that reveal that the characters don't look like they did in the series (except Aang, kinda). So I doubt they'll have the cabbage guy. . .i'm not gonna pay to watch this movie, but I will watch it
