Herzog Zwei was a sequel anyway, it could never be the first RTS. It's a sequel to Herzog, released on MSX systems.

While Dune 2 may not be the 1st RTS ever, I do consider it a "genre-defining" one. Street Fighter 2 wasn't the first fighting game, but surely was a genre-defining game

Dune 2 was made before Command and Conquer. Dune 2 was not the first RTS, but it was the first commercially successful RTS. It influenced Command and Conquer and became the blueprint for "modern RTSes"

This is Dune II The Maker, a remake using new code. Building of a Dunasty was the American version, Battle for Arrakis was the European version.

I do want to have Multiplayer in this one day. But i am afraid that it will take several years. Simply because i lack time, and i need to learn network programming. But then again, the project is on google code, so anyone can join and help out.
