@dahakahunter there are so many things wrong with your last comment formost among them how is aaragon supposed to whip out a long dead king? elendil was a man not a sword.
@mrmemanme should've said the sword of Elendil. Or the long ass sword the king uses to summon the army of the dead. Or the huge blade given to Aragorn by Elrond.
@nagagagaga (continued)...told you about the age of the Bible. I mean it is nice to assume some group of men who were not around when Jesus lived and had no potential Eyewitnesses around to discount any of their fantastic writings created the Bible, but it is just not true. Mark's Gospel and Paul's letters were written in a time when many eyewitnesses to Jesus's actions would have been alive. Thus what they wrote had to be true or the writing would never have spread throughout the world.
@nagagagaga I don't mean to rain on your parade, but your idea for when the gospels of the Bible were written is plain wrong. Ask any biblical scholar and they will tell you that the Gospel of Mark was written around ten-twenty years after the death of Jesus and the letters of Paul around a decade after the death of Jesus. The oldest Gospel in the Bible John was written around 110 AD. I guess it's interesting to posit the question of whether you took on faith what another atheist told you...
when he said : there are those who dwell in the mountain i was thinking like : YEEAAAHHHH huge dwarven legions with gimly in command ! all fully armed and filty ! drunk and really mad possible but i would really like to see in the hobbit a huge dwarven army full plated mithril armour and huge battle axes and then just a slaughter on a scale beyond what is imaginable and hardly anny dwarfs dying...
@nagagagaga I know your young... or you wouldn't be speaking like a fool, unless you are trying to be one,you and a great many others, too die twice.Yet, it is not the will of God for ANY man to perish, so you will have a chance, you and the masses of faithless pawns in a world that cares less for you than heaven. However, don't say something so so idiotic as to say he is not your God and EVERYONE elses. "So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow in Heaven, on the Earth and below the Earth"
@Usmcspartan420 Also-newflash: it was the frakin history channel that made the connection AS EVERYONE DOES,cuz there is. Sigh. anyone know the song that plays on the background when elrond shows aragorn the anduril and gives it to him? then it keeps playing when aragorn draws anduril.
Brilliant scene! Somehow, it always reminds me of Jesus embracing His destiny--His mission on earth--to die. There's just something so Gethsemane-like in this scene, I just love it! It's like, "Not as I will but as you will" kind of thing.
@JoseRCol2 You KNOW Tolkien WAS Catholic, right?! It was my Catholic friend who pointed that out! I didn't see it that way before she told me! It might be coincidence--but she may be right. Besides, can't you express your opinion without insulting? RETARDED?!!? Seriously? Dude, grow up, man!
I have my opinion (and I agree with my friend), have a right to express that opinion, but have NO RIGHT to insult others who don't have the same opinion as me. NEITHER DO YOU! So zip it!
@GeeZone777 Elrond was figuratively alluding to Arwen's choice of becoming a mortal (She's Half-Elven like her Father Elrond who chose to be an Elf). As Sauron's threat of victory approaches, Arwen's mortal life would be cut shorter than Elrond would have hoped, that is why he instills his hope into Aragorn and hands him Anduril as well advising Aragorn to seek the Paths of the Dead and raise an army to fight Mordor's forces in Minas Tirith.
The relation between Elrond and Aragorn in the movies isn't really to accurate and I was kinda upset about this. Elrond never told Aragorn to not be the Ranger and never says what he says in the Fellowship of the Ring in how Elrond says, He has chosen exile. Elrond always supported Aragorn and never said anything to him about you need to become king for he knew that it would be to dangerous for Aragorn to do it.
@LedZeppelin456789 I was sort of thinking about that, how Elrond is rather unsupportive of Aragorn and how much that's different from the book, and being his foster father and all. I'm sure some of it has to do with Arwen in some way, but it really can't be all of it. Elrond has such an ill-attitude of Men in general. But in another way it sort of makes sense because Aragorn lacks a lot of confidence in his ability, and hearing Elrond's doomsaying about men all the time.. it's no wonder.
@LedZeppelin456789 According to the books Elrond did raise Aragorn/Estel and loved him as a son. But it also says that there was a divide created between them when Elrond realized Aragorn's relationship with Arwen. Elrond did say that Arwen would "not be bride to any other man but the King of both Gondor and Arnor" - Appendix A-F from Return of the King.
(doing my own translation from Swedish here so it may not be precise ;) )
@hattlort Don't worry I know about that too. ;) I just wanted to try and explain the fact that Elrond really never really declined to him being a ranger.
I still think it's a shame that we never get to see Elladan and Elrohir fighting in the movies, even with this scene being changed they still could have added them, it would make sense that they came with Elrond to see Aragorn and then traveled with Aragorn after that, but the movies seem to make it look like the only thing the elves were good at is archery, it would have been good to see elven swordsmen to show they are masters at all forms of combat.
@hurmet Elven swordsmanship was shown more than once. The high elves in the prologue of FotR formed a wall of swords, and so did the Lothlorien Elves on Helmsdeep. What I´m still missing though is Elves on horseback, how awesome would that be.
Quite a few things in the story changed due to this scene, firstly it wasn't Elrond who came, it was his two sons, a few elves and the rangers of the dunedain (of which Aragorn is chief), and they helped fight in the battle of pelennor. The other big change is that Aragorn actually had the sword before the fellowship set out from Rivendell. Some of these things were changed for the epic effect in the movie others were changed because the characters weren't needed for the plot to move forward.
"I gave hope to the Dúnedain, I have kept no hope for myself"
These were the last words Gilraen, Aragorn's mother, to Aragorn before she died. It doesn't really make any sense that Elrond would know them, but it's still awesome... and appropriate.
@NoobSnoopy have you ever heard about the battle of dale that took place during the war of the ring, where king Dain of erebor fell, or the drakness of angmar that was rising?
After seeing this so often, my eye is drawn to details. Like this: An open fire in a tent filled with wall-hangings on a windy night. Yeah, that's a good idea.
I don't mean to bash this scene at all (in fact, I think it's EPIC), it's just that Anduril was reforged in the book TFOTR... I do like how Peter Jackson made this scene, though! Very well done!
@NoobSnoopy dale and erebor was attacked by another army, the king of the dwarves fell, and the catpain of dale also fell in that battle, they could not have helped, and eriador was suffering from other attacks, as when suruman attacked the shire.

@pixargod, he'd better, no one else could possibly ever play Elrond, actually I think I heard that he signed on. Wait he's in that? cool now I"m going to have to see that.
@Aducairiel, indeed, one of the best shots ever.
