@fillfucker Personally I don't like death and black metal, due to the instrumental being less melodic, the vocals hoarse and screaming and that the lyrics does not seem to be the happiest shit ever. But that doesnot mean that its directly bad. Some may hear this and find it odd and all
@qwerty63416341, Not near as much as they owe to the real metal scene that existed twenty years before death metal was even a mere thought. The pure sound that Tyr play has been around before the inception of crap 'extreme' metal, and it will still be around long after it's demise.
@qwerty63416341 Rather, the "death-metal scene" owes Tyr and their forebears for their very existence. Death Metal is a complainy suburban joke spawned by the illegitimately angry and cowardly
I support Peace and Tolerance, however if one attacks another for their beliefs i have no problem with pulling out the Hammer of Thor (i would say it, but i dont want to disrespect it by not spelling it right)
@JorisKanters I think he's meaning that a lot of viking metal bands usually use growling for vocals. Luckily this band actually uses them as an instrument not something useless.

Truth be told I'm just an American with some Swedish blood in my veins, and I'm fascinated with music, that brought me here more than religion...But I'm so curious as to the religious beliefs surrounding Vikings...Where do I sign up?
@jded7 Wait... what do you mean by sign up? You want a place to learn about Norse lore? Look up Asatru Religion and click a few links, that should help fill your hungry mind.
@Midvinterblot542 Well I can't read anything seeing as how I'm hung over. x.x Long night filled with Vodka. I must say....Tyr is probably the best band to get drunk to. :P Won't believe how many times I had to re-read this to make sure I didn't spell things wrong lol.
Spelling is a poor reason to call someone not intelligant. We are not all english speakers here, you know. I'd love to see you spell all our mother tongues correctly.
but, yes, saying that all christians are ignorant is unfair in many ways.
@antagonist42 I get piqued of people similar to "TheMoonshiner7" who make followers of the Norse religion look idiotic. He is just one of those fools trying to be "evil" or "bad" and spent about 15 minutes on Wikipedia to determine his beliefs. I personally have spent at least 400 hours forming my religious beliefs and over 200 more of seeing if the Norse religion truly does align with my brains NATURAL beliefs and I am only 16.
@VinnishPagan Aye, they do tend to shed us in a bad light. He got something partially(and i do stress the word partial) right, many christian holidays are pagan in origin (Candle-mass for example), but they didn't steal so much as integrate to facilitate the assimilation of older beliefs to make the transition to Christianity easier. It does bother me that many of their original meanings have been lost due to this, but there are many of us who keep them alive.
I'm not hugely knowledgeable about religions. But wasn't Christianity forced on Norse people? Isn't that why there is such animosity towards Christianity, such as the church burning etc? Just curious
@twiztidlestat Not at first, but when the church starting gaining more power, they began to force it yes. But, they found it difficult, so they began to integrate elements of various pagan faiths into Christianity. Hell, some went as far as to say Ragnarok had already happened and that the two survivors were adam and eve. The animosity stems from those early days, and is fueled by constant hatred and ire heaped upon us by the more "evangelical" Christians.
@twiztidlestat i support church burnings, all churches deserve to be burnt to destroy them in the same way they destroyed the old real proofs and facts of what happened in our past, they have set us back 2,000 years in spiritual and technological enlightenment because of their insecurities and hunger for power and domination, they deserve to be irradicated from this earth and the firmament above for eternity
@EdikShepherd Muslims, sure. But not Christians. The Christians of today are much changed from the ones back in the old times. Islam and militant atheism is now the two greater threats to Norse Paganism, and paganism in general. I am a Norse Pagan, but I attend non-religious classes at the church of my youth. I'm readily accepted as an ally, and I return the sentiment in kind. Course it helps that the minister and I are intellectually similar, and find common foes to fight.
Why can't any decent viking music be heard without someone starting the religion crap? Honestly who cares? They're proud of their heritage and their faith and in "By The Light of The Northern Star", maybe they could have done without the christian bashing but oh well. No offense to you christians who enjoy the music but bitch about that one thing but you don't have a spotless track record for tolerance and holding your tongues either.
I for one am glad they've cut back on the religion songs. I like the new style too.
I'm a Christian. I'm not offended by Týr's faith unless they're outright bashing my own (for example, there was something said about "nailing the naked Nazarene to the pagan cross" on the Ragnarök album), because it's hypocritical. Even so, this means that their songs are more relatable to people of all faiths. Even if they're singing about Norse mythology still, it's an allusion, and ambiguous to the listener.
@antagonist42 unless your I.Q is lower than your shoe size, you will get the referance to norse mythology. plus christians bash all of us wiccans, and norse pagans. they say we worship the devil when in fact we have no affiliation with christianity. christians try to force their religion on others and we have something called free will, witch means believe if you want to. besides christianity coppied our sacred saboths and perverted them into hollidays about their god, thats real origanal...>:(
@TheMoonshiner7 I think you are thinking of a certain religion in Christianity. First of all, there are different types of Christianity. Not all Christians do what most people say. For one, Ive never heard anyone at my church say you guys worship the devil. Anyone who says that need to take a better look at who you worship. The people at my church go on missionary trips to teach to those who are willing to listen, they`re not forcing anything on anyone.
@TheMoonshiner7 I don't know where to begin with that comment... List format?
1. I'm Christian and I didn't bash anything. Nulled point #1.
2. I didn't say that there weren't references to Norse mythology. I said that they weren't outright bashing anyone whose religions disagreed with theirs. Nulled point #2.
3. Generalizing all christians as ignorant fucks and then calling me an ignorant fuck? Hypocritical. Nulled point #3.
4. You misspelled "sabbath" and "original." And I have a low IQ? QED.
You also misspelled "holidays" and "copied," and would not know proper punctuation if it smacked you in the ass.
I wish I could make morons like you go away; it's thanks to people like you that we can't go to a Metal video without there being some stupid religion debate in the comments. I gave you my OPINION, and if you're too butthurt to accept that it disagrees with yours, then feel free to respond to this comment and prove me right.
@TheMoonshiner7 antagonist is right. You're the one who needs to wise up. Sabbaths were originally yours? "Sabbath" isn't even an Indo-European word...it's Hebrew. The Sabbath came from Judaism, instituted by God as a day of rest. That's where we Christians get it from. Unless you didn't mean "sabbaths" but rather "festivals", in which case forgive the Roman citizens who became Christians but kept their cultural identity and still liked to party on Saturnalia--sans pagan worship.

@werein12345 dude go back and listen to the album by the light of the norrthern star (my personal favorite) and listen to all of the songs 90% of them will b stuck in ur head 4 months 2 come
It's almost a love child of a modern metal band mixed with Devin Townsend. The singers weird melodies, and key range changes, and the way he sounds when he sings high remind of me when Devin sung for Vai. Mixture of that and strange power metal. LOVE IT! ha
Great inteligence and grand feelings behind the music...
We will pay tribute to THOR by listening the whole next week the new Tyr album, only. Good time, as thunders roar around in southern Poland right now :)
This is great!! Thank you for sharing. From what I can remember, Heri doesn't mind at all when the albums get posted. He is just happy the music is out there. \m/
@Regin82 I actually think I understand most of what you wrote. I don't speak faroese but I speak danish. Did you write: Tyr have, are and will forever be a really fantasticly genius.. uh, band? And I think 'tit brilliera' means something like 'they're often really good'. Actually surprised me a bit. I thought faroese was nothing like danish at all. :)
In the picture Thor looks as if he's shouting: "And stay dead!" xD
But the picture is not very authentic, if it was, Thor would be wearing a bride's dress. Just saying.

It's almost a love child of a modern metal band mixed with Devin Townsend. The singers weird melodies, and key range changes, and the way he sounds when he sings high remind of me when Devin sung for Vai. Mixture of that and strange power metal. LOVE IT! ha
