You have to remember the call said there was 2 black burglars, the officers did not leave the house because they suspected that either Gates was the burglar, or the real burglars were hiding in the house and the cops needed to stay around to fully investigate and ensure there was no danger to Gates.

Gates actually provided State ID, and his Harvard ID, but Crowley like any other officer had to ensure that this was indeed Gates, so he called over the Harvard Police just to clear anything up and so they could quickly asses that he is indeed a professor and could leave him alone. This is when Gates began to spew crap at Crowley. Crowley left the house and Gates followed talking more crap, then finally Crowley put him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct in the public.

Crowley is hiding something and it will come out. If Gates was wrong they would have jailed him and kept their charges as they usually do. Not this time they drop the charges quick, fast, and in a hurry for a good reason. Gates should not have been arrested. Alitech1 uhhh it was a 911 call...my coworker who is from India accidently dialed 911.....police showed up, and they had to walk thru her house to make sure all is ok.

At you informing me that it was a 911 call because i called it an investigation. when a 911 call is made the police must come out and investigate the call and thats why i did refer to it as an investigation. Also, Crowley made a call on his radio to the station and asked for "more cars". And he wrote in his report that the caller said there were 2 blackmen and she never said any such thing. So not only did Crowley brake the law, he's also a liar!!!

I mean why are you overlooking the fact that Crowley broke the law by entering Gates home??? Thanks for bringing some different perspectives. I don't think that Sgt. Crowley was in the wrong, but I like the points on how the black community will react to Crowley's white wives and agree that the Reggie Lewis incident is irrelevant.
