Lea is better a Eponine She was amazing at that role but Ruthie will always be that best Fantine! BTW I'm playing Fantine and the lovely ladies scene is always hard to do with not getting mad before you have to but that acting :_

i love lea. but i feel like in this song she concentrated too much on crying and not enough on singing. when she gets to the line "you let your forman send me away" it's suposed to be so dramatic and strong and i think you lost that in this version.

I love Alexander Gemagnani. Of course Colm is the best, Alex does a great job. The Javert, however, sounds like a baby. Seriously, he's WAY to young to be playing Javert and his voice does not suit Javert at all... No offense. He's got a nice voice and I'm sure he's a great actor...

@puckhiggins - It's Drew Sarich. Heh. He was an understudy at the time. Apart from actually being young, he's a tenor, which not only doesn't suit Javert, it also makes him sound a lot younger that he is. However, he's a wonderful Valjean!! He has the best 24601111111111 I've ever heard. Er-check out the video of him as Enjolras. It's...quite interesting. But in all seriousness, I adore Drew...just not as Javert...or Enjolras, especially not Enjolras. Fabulous Valjean, though.

Lea Salonga will reprise her role as Fantine in the 25th Anniversary of Les Miserables on October 3, 2010 at The O2 Arena in London. She must have done something right and impressive in playing Fantine ;-)

lea salonga is amazing :) and in my opinion, she's way too strong of a character to be eponine. but she's a phenomenal fantine and miss saigon (who are actually pretty similar)

Of course, she was amazing as Fantine, but Ruthie´s voice fits better to Fantine. Listen to the part when Ruthie sings: You let your foreman send me away or if I go to jail she´ll die. Brilliant and a bit better than Lea. But I think that Ruthie couldn´t sing the Eponine´s songs so good as Lea. But both of them are brilliant singers. Only in my opinion Lea is better Eponine and Ruthie is better Fantine :)

Lea did a very good job as Fantine. She portrayed her in a different light-- something that can't be seen from the previous Fantines.

The Tony committee made the "Best Replacement" category for a situation like this. They haven't utilized it, and it's really sad cause Lea Salonga was definitely deserving for a Tony after replacing that mess Daphne Ruben Vega :S

This is going to sound really random, but Daniel Bogart is my favorite of the singers in this video. =] Don't get me wrong, I love Lea as Fantine, and Drew's voice in genearal, but Daniel's voice makes me swoon at the moment!

I saw Lea as Fantine and have seen Les Miserables any times. Toronto cast led by Jean Valjean bored me to death, all I can think of was my laundry. BUT the Broadway cast at the time was 100% excellent! Everyone was just great. You can hear the quiet crowd sobbing when Lea's Fantine died and was hallucinating.

Wow, I hate to say this, but I don't really like Lea in this. She has my favourite voice in the universe...if I could sing like anyone it would be her, but I don't really think she's right for Fantine. I always thought she sounded too refined for Les Mis and the acting seems a little heavy for her here and it affects her singing.

However, I kind of enjoy a younger, yummier Javert ;)....and he sounds great - I bet when he strengthened the lower reister that he was fab.

I love Drew Sarich. But I think he's too young to play Javert. You can't have a guy in his thirties play that part. And his voice is too high. He's supposed to be a baritone, and he's such a tenor.

He improved much with each week that went by. I saw him in late April during one of his first performances as Javert and he was just abyssmal, his lower register was so weak that everytime the notes went down his voice virtually disappeared, but then I saw him again in late May and he was about 1000x better.

Sure...he's like. He's an upscale man who expects respect from everybody yet gives none to anybody unless they can harm him. He knows that he can treat Fantine in anyway he wants because she's a whore and in the eyes of the law (Javert in this case), she's wrong for just being a whore. Be aristocratic and very degrading, except to Javert.

No matter how small...it's a really fun part...i gotta say. Have fun man!
