  • You have quit making this video at 2 minutes

  • In case you're wondering, the song is called Turn Me Up by Benny Benassi

    enjoy ;D

  • Slashfan7777 i know that the plant is a big deal and probably the two biggest things are keeping your bottom arm straight and jumping hard those two things will lead to a good bend.

  • Hi I am a noob pole vaulter, my PR is 11.5 ft. I used to jump on a pole that was 13 ft and rated for 150lb, i weigh 163lb (I know this isnt allowed) so I have recently purchased a new pole, this is a 14 ft and rated for 170lb. I am having lots of trouble with it. I cant bend the new pole at all. Im not holding it at the very top yet because im too scared it will stand me up, In fact i have tried and it has. I dont know what im doing wrong and i dont have a coach to tell me. Please HELP!

  • @slashfan7777 hi iv been pole vaulting since i was in the 7th grade and i dont have a coach either but to me it sounds like you are not picking your knees up high enough when you are running and also when you make your plant you need to drive up as hard as you can. also new poles sometimes need broken in so they will be a little stiff when you first start jumping with it.

  • @slashfan7777 - You need a shorter pole to progress. Gripping a longer and heavier pole lower increases the weight of the pole 5 - 10 pounds for every 6" down that you grip! So if you are griping a foot down on a 170, it's like vaulting on a 180-190 pound pole. Hope this helps... of course, there are many other factors but, this is something to consider.

  • i pole vault.. geez its hard ... -.-

  • These guys are just tempting the Nutshot God.

  • can i get some help with my vault please look on my profile

  • 14'9" on a 15ft 180lb carbon fx at jersey jumps beach vault as a junior :P i only weigh 160 lol. going for 16ft by the end of my senior year. got all of indor and outdoor to get there. jumping 15' 3" with a bar in practice now :P wish me luck!!!

  • @haks11ence dude i'm a junior in college and still trying to get on 15' poles. it sucks! haha. i've gotten 16' on my 14' 7" 195...but i really need to get on a damn 15' pole. the 195 just aint givin me enough lift. i'm 5'8" 160...it sucks bein short. lol

  • my personal record is 14 feet on a 14 foot pole. I want a bigger pole but my high school doesnt own any :(

  • Im the best i polevault in sweden i boys 15 i jump 410;)))

  • the music just adds to how awesome pole vault is!! woo pole vault

  • you aint got no pancake mix!!

  • in high school districts i almost died while a friend of mine soared over 15ft taking the win! these guys in this vid are flying over 18-19.

  • 2:25 wtf?

  • dude haha i bet like 99% of these guys are total liars, everyone learnes at their own pace, just have fun with it

  • this is the best pole vault mix out....... it has helped my technique a thousand times

  • haha i just started polevaulting 3 weeks ago :) first meet cleared 8ft 3'' second meet cleared 10 ft, third meet (today) cleared 10ft 6'' almost cleared 11 feet :o wish me luck on my next week! - FRESHMEN!

  • @supersuper333 ahem... 13' 6"... FRESHMAN:D lol dont believe me? espnrise.com search texas regional track results, region 3. you'll see my name its the only one with a single digit grade next to it. love it. haha! how'd you end up?

  • my gym teacher got 16 in highschool and he took me out during study hall and taught me how to bend i can get 8 6 now.but that was only my first day

  • seven ft is not very good... hahaha

  • All u can do is count on forward progress. Stick with it. I'm only a freshman and after doing it for about a month, I get a new PR at every meet I go to.

  • Yep! It's all about the knee drive and the straight trail leg!!

  • i am also in 7th grade

  • if this is my first year and i am getting 7 feet am i good because idk whether its good or everyone else just sucks

  • @mbergcm20 dosent sound the best. its my first year and im on about 11 feet+ but i started working at seven feet.

  • @mbergcm20 thts really good if your a girl. i strted in 7th grade and now i'm in 9th grade clearing 7' 6"

  • @vault1111 Well currently it's 7 feet but I've only Just been pulled. They're not going to have me participate in a meet until I can do at least 10 feet. And that will be a while since I can only get in like 6 or 7 vaults a day because our star vaulter has to practice 90% of the time. And by the way, when I first read your question, you sounded like a total ass hole.

  • Lawlz. I can only do 6.5 feet. :P

  • i f ing love pole vault!!!!!

  • @Whoo97 I used to dive too and now i'm vaulting. I've only been doing it for two weeks but my PR is 10'6".

  • haha 2:24 wtf?

  • Lolz kewl...but is it me or did it sorta look lke some of them pushed the pole to a differ so there wouldn't be another fail or like.. 0:41... so close!.lolz

But guy at 1:55 ...idk...to me look like he was coverin' up...lolz..I just have imagination!!

  • this is my first year pole vaulting but my second year on track and field, and i love it so much. my PR for vaulting is 10' and i havent even started bending the pole yet.......(i dont know how) lol. i just wish i would have started pole vaulting my freshman year. i think id be a lot better. BTW im a senior. =P

  • im a freshmen and im just starting this year..it looks soo sick and i've bee ndiving before this..the feeling seems similiar

  • @Whoo97 I dive and pole vault. Id have to say diving really helps out

  • @armwood2010 if youre using a pole near your body weight and are holding at the end of the pole (well 6 inches from the end) you should be bending the pole, just keep your bottom arm straight and hold your plant position, the pole will bend and pull you up with it, then you do the rockback etc. i just learned to bend the pole last year and im a senior. last year i could only get 10' but as soon as i started bending i can vault 14' plus now

  • what song?

  • Anything over 13 feet for a freshman is pretty good, anything over 16 in high school will get you a decent scholarship

  • Yo wutttt. I'm a freshman. And my record is like 6 foot. (two practices... DON'T JUDGE ME! ) But our school record is like 13 feet...

  • @baseball4556 thats pretty damn good for a freshman. if you keep going you could get like 12 feet or higher which is decent for highschoolers

  • dude this is sick!!! imma pole vault tomarro this is my first time im in the 7th greade but we are only going to belike 7 and a half feet in the air i think i got this because im a freerunner and im use to jummping at hight distances

  • its pretty much technique if you have that down then its pretty much arms and rowing

  • Are you a pole Vaulter? and where at?

  • I'm a freshman and it its my first year of pole vault. my pr is 10. is that any good?

  • Thats very good i think mines 7 is that good? oh and ima girl

  • damn i wish i could do that. this year i'm gonna get good though. its my first year with a coach that actually knows how to pole vault

  • this video is sick try watching it with Travis barker remix of forever and you will truly be blown away

  • I love the feeling you get when your so high off the ground and the sensation when falling down.

But the feeling before the jump , the part where my balls shrink , sucks ass .

  • The one at 1:31 actually made me feel a little nauseous. I don't know why

  • 2:24 is my favorite vault ever!!

  • @broddewig That was the best! LOL

  • I know that's how you vault ;)

  • Gosh there is nothing that gets me more jacked up than seeing Tim Mack's reaction when he won the gold. That whole way down you have got to be just out of your minnddddd!

  • what song is this. Is very catchy

  • turn me up - benassi brothers

  • haha the beginning!

that cross bar IS hard to get up lol

  • Outstanding video and the music was excellent!!

    thanks for sharing

  • beautiful!

  • Love this film :D I watched this film the day before I compeeted in WYC in Bressanone, Italy, in pole vault. I was so excited afterward that I won :D I'm a 16 year old girl and I jumped 4,32m, I had a PB outside before on 4,12m. Thanks!

  • @fastangel3

are you angelica bengtsson? if yes, congratulation for your 4.47m in moscow!

  • @walfitsmetaller

    yes, thank you :D

  • @fastangel3

are you participating to the meeting in Manheim the 3 and 4 july?

  • @walfitsmetaller

No :( where are you from?

  • I don't no just to be perfectly honest yet I would think there would be just as many!

  • Not to make it sound like its racist but if you ask African Americans to polvolt must of the ones I have talk to say no.lol Look at me like I am crazy.

  • lol well randomness is always good;

  • lov that song ,,,love more this sport!!!!

  • nice mix

  • I really hope this is college level?!

  • College and some Olympians, yeah.

  • anyone notice that pole vaulting is mainly whites and asians??? lol

  • yes its one of the few sports white people dominate in haha

  • i know a black kid that can jump 15 feet and hes only been doing it for 2 weeks lol

  • Asians ..... Hmm i havnt noticed to many asians

  • I's because white people can't jump as high as other people. So we have to use a pole.

  • Hahahaha verry true my friend=P

  • raphael holzdeppe ain't too shabby heh

  • Dang! I miss pole-vaulting so much! I wish i never stopped!

  • It's Turn Me Up by the Benassi Bros.

  • This video is so sweet I watch it all the time. pole vaulting is great. this is so cool. What is the name of the song?

  • vaulting is so much fun, ((:

    i love it.

  • pole vaulters= best athletes. strongest, fastest, most coordinated, and not to mention a certain amount of courage when flying 15 feet through the air

  • @NehpetsK57 and the sexiest. i havnt seen 1 polevault guy witout a nice body

  • @NehpetsK57 That's why I did pole vault!

  • @NehpetsK57 but every pole vault is psychical sick LoL :P I'm Pole Vaulter

  • @NehpetsK57

pole vaulters are super athletic....but I think soccer players are the best athletes by far

  • @911FANGS they don't even use their upper body.....

  • @SmoothSkating

Professional soccer players have extremely powerful legs. Because soccer players mainly use their legs, ppl assume that they don't use their upper body strenth at all, which isn't true. Soccer players have to use their upper body strength to put pressure on other players and they have to stay firm, while being pushed. Seriously, look at soccer players' abs.....they're strong! Although, it's true that pole vaulters need more upper body strength than soccer players.

  • @911FANGS LOL at soccer players.

  • @NehpetsK57 Sorry to burst your bubble, but Decathletes are the best athletes. They have to do pole vault as well as nine other events. Decathletes may pole vault four to five feet below the world record, but when have you seen a pole vaulter throw a shot-put over 45 feet, run a 400 meter under 48 seconds, or long jump over 23 feet? And that's only three other events, you still have six others that haven't been mentioned.

  • @MrBigT008 yes his name is sergei bubka

  • @thevaulta Yes, Sergei Bubka may be the world record holder for the pole vault, but I doubt he is a great thrower, 400/1500 runner, or a good jumper for the other two jumping events in the decathlon. I will give him the 100 meter sprint because in pole vault you need speed, but he still needs to be better than good in the other eight events. In my opinion, I do not think that Bubka would score over 6700 points in the decathlon.

  • @MrBigT008 Nothing against Sergei Bubka, though. He is and will forever be a legend in pole vault. He is an amazing athlete. I am training for the decathlon. For inspiration and to see how the pro does it I watch Bubka's videos on here to learn as much as I can.

  • @MrBigT008 most of the better vaulters i encounter can do all those things. that's why a lot of vaulters make the best multi guys/girls ;)

  • @Tarzan07330 I do not know many vaulters personally so I would not be able to back up or go against your statement. Though, now thinking about it, considering that pole vault is the most technical event, I can see how they would be at least decent in several of the other events.

  • @MrBigT008 well all of the multis i know started off as vaulters because it is the hardest to get really good at, no offense to the other events...but it takes more than just being born fast, lifting to get faster and stronger, it takes a lot of training to have great form.

  • @Tarzan07330 That is why it is called the most technical event. It also "takes more than just being born fast" to be really good in the running events, "lifting to get faster and stronger" for the explosive events such as the jumps or throws, and they all "take a lot of training to have great form". I do not believe that the pole vaulters you know can do the things that I have said below for the simple fact that they would have had to train outside of pole vaulting. Specialists do not do that.

  • @MrBigT008 i understand jumps takes form. but sprints is anything different than what vaulters do. most vaulters run just as fast as sprinters because we do the same kind of lifts to get faster. either way, who cares. we do what we do either cuz we love it (ie, myself) or because it pays the bills (i also fit into this category). haha

  • @Tarzan07330 Don't forget throws too! The gap between sprinters and pole vaulters in a race, though, widens every level you go up. Lifting wise I would have to say that pole vaulters actually use more advanced lifts, and a bigger variety because of the different muscles being used and a few other factors. I definitely fit into "doing it because I love it" category, and hopefully one day it'll pay too! So you are paid to jump? Have you gone to the olympics or the olympic trials before?

  • @MrBigT008 yeah, i meant that we do the same lifts as sprints...but we also do more on top of that. and no, i'm in college. so it pays for my college bills. gotta love DI schools and scholarships :)

  • @Tarzan07330 Very true. Nice! Yes, you have to love those D1 scholarships. I'm working my ass off to get a good score in the decathlon. If I get even within 1000 points of it I'll definitely be seen by other colleges. Who do you jump for?

  • @MrBigT008 I jump for Youngstown State University in Ohio. I actually love it here. I came from an EXTREMELY rural area and our school was a joke...but I like it. It adds character. YSU is a small DI college, so it works out. Plus I'm in charge of outdoor activities here like rock climbing, kayaking, rappelling, slackline, freerunning/parkour, so it's pretty badass. At YSU you see just about everybody and know everyone's face. How bout you?

  • @Tarzan07330 Sounds nice, and it seems like you have a lot going for you! I'm a freshman at Butte College, a junior college near Chico, CA. This will be my first year doing the decathlon, but I think I've found the event that I was made for. I'm going to train my butt off to break some records, be regognized by D1 schools, and possibly be known on a national or even world level. It's a high goal, but I plan on achieving it. :)

  • @MrBigT008 good for you. i had goals similar to yours, but in college i've picked up soooo many hobbies polevault is no longer my biggest goal. plus in high school i was a hot head and even got suspened from track because i would get so pissed when i vaulted bad. college helped me change and just do it for fun. which kinda hurt my drive to get better. but for me, i think it's for the best. i hope you achieve your goals, man!

  • @Tarzan07330 I can relate with the frustration when things went wrong. I was never suspended, but that feeling drove me crazy and usually brought me down the rest of the meet. It's good to hear that you're still doing it though. Like I said earlier, it seems like a lot of good things are going for you, and I really wish it stays that way! Thank you for you kind words. I'll keep doing my best!

  • @MrBigT008 hey some decathletes use to be pole vaulters. and what about people who are in gymnastics? they're extremely athletic too.

  • @felipfrmstarbucks Yes, Tarzan07330 and I have been having the pole vault duscussion for a short while now. I agree, though, that gymnastics is a very athletic sport. Gymnastics is somewhat similar to the decathlon in terms of their demands; physical strength, coordination, and endurance among other thigns. A few more things the decathlon requires in order to be successful is jumping ability and speed. In gymnastics they use springs in their jumping and the farthest a gymnasts runs is about 12m.

  • @MrBigT008 Truth,,, Good decathletes are unbelievable athletes

  • nothing looks cooler than pole vaulting. and nothing is more fun!

i absolutely love pole vaulting. :)

  • ooh yeeaaahh !!!

  • heck ya favorite event pole vualt forever!!!!

  • i just bend the bar like crazy and hope for the best lol

  • haha sam.you're as thin and tall as the stick!

  • Man I love pole vaulting. I watched this video like 5 times in a row. Its the best thing ever!

  • i got 13' my freshman year

  • thats impressive but i really dont think anyone cares.

  • song isn't very good:D

  • does anyone know a technique or something to keep your figure 4 straight ? im a beginner && i keep on messing it up lols

  • figure 4 straight? wow, i've never heard a point in the pv referred to as that..

  • i think he means the knee drive/swing phase...i guess it kinda looks like a 4

  • all you have to do is do some pop ups and just work on driving your knee and keeping your legs together. it will feel weird but after awhile it feels comfortable and will help a lot later on when you need to swing up and turn

  • what song is this?

  • turn me up - benny benassi

  • im so glad the indoor season started back up, first meet drove 3 hours to west virginia and got 11'6. my outdoor best is 12 (summer going into sophmore high school year). im happy since i dont have a facility to train in for indoors.

  • you're lucky. our pit was old school and illegal at my high school and our track was that black cinder shit. plus we had drain pipes in lanes 1 and 2 so we couldn't use them. haha. we ended up going dirt biking and 4 wheeling most of the time cuz my coaches trail lead right to our track. haha.

  • wow, you've already gotten 12ft and your a sophmore?

    did you start freshman year?

my best is 8, but i just started like 3 months ago.

  • i got 12ft my first year and i started as a sophmore

  • Did u do gymnastics?

  • i started last year and my best is 12 feet im a senior now :( wish i woulda started fresh year my ass woulda got a nasty scholorship but yea i placed 3rd in conference and we are starting indoor tomorrow and we have the newest track and pit in illinois :)

  • nope

  • hehe some of the parts are made in sittard it seems :) I train there :p

  • anyone know the song? i really like it. haha

  • turn me up by benny benassai

  • true, probably not the wr but I think he could jump 6

  • lol, right now the best german vaulter is raphael holzdeppe, a "black" guy who jumps 5.80, the nice thing is that he is a junior.. he is going to break the wr.

  • yea... 19-1/4 is pretty insane... but he has been training for the last 12 years of his life... so he has a great advantage already... i wouldn't count him as a definate WR holder yet... he still has a lot of tecnique and strength to improve upon before he is there... but its possible..

  • this clip really shows the vault from a great angle!

    I

    m

  • Polevaulting is sooo sick, same with Benny Benassi

  • have you ever noticed how 99% of pole vaulters are white. The other 1% being seen on this video.(the only black guy on the video) And they say white men cant jump

  • hahahah agreed... only the black guy in this video is very very very good... so black men can jump too... haha

  • lol But... They aren't really jumpin lyk in long jump or basketball. Dere usin momentum mostly and the pole to get them ova the top

  • yeah it takes momentum but your vertical has to be high too. its not all momentum is about 50 50 because if you rundown and not put your arms up and jump your not going anywhere. Raising your arms is part of your vertical jump. so its not all momentum.

  • actually it's the exact same jump you would do for long jump, except you're jamming a 16 foot pole into a hole, storing energy in the pole, then it returns it to you.

  • don't tell black people that, don't want al sharpton whining some more about racism

  • God i love pole vaulting i just started to do it about 4 weeks ago and my PR is 10.6 this is the best damn sport on the planet for sure

  • Benny Benassi "Turn me up"

  • whats the name of the music?

  • as a fellow pole vaulter i think this is the F@#$#@$ best video i have ever seen, watch it everyday before a meet

  • f*ck ya!!!! I'm gonna PR tomorrow for sure

  • nice vid. whats the song?

  • Benny Benassi "Turn me up"

  • The guys in the athens olymipics are so freaking nuts!

  • 2:27... woah thats high... nice camera angles to make it seem really impressive.... who is that vaulter?

  • Toby Stevenson is such a jackass. When he clears a height he acts like it's the first height he's ever cleared. It bothers me.

  • I KNOW! i hate him because of that.. and all that stupid air guitar with his pole shit he does... what the fuck is that?

  • Yeah that always bugs me. I've seen him do that in person at meets and it always gets ppl talking. The only extraordinary thing to celebrate about is that he Actually cleared 6 meters. I wouldnt have thought such an inefficient vaulter could go that high. But then again he always baarley cleared it.

  • i think you should be able to celebrate in each height if you want, but then again like with the guuitar idk but i remember it was my first meet of my junior year and i had an ankle injury that took me out for 4 weeks and in the 4th week i had to learn to go from 4 lefts to 6 lefts in 3 days and i put my opening height at 9 ft cuz i wasn't sure and i did a 3 sec dance in the matt after every height till i got out at 12'6

  • i agree, because with pole vault theres so many things that can go wrong, we deserve to dance if we can get all the minor details down pat at such a speed

  • 5:06... wow... his bend was really shallow on that one... it was borderline straitpole... at least compared to tim macks deep bend..

  • actually im pretty sure he doesn't have tap only for his bottum hand, and thats pretty common for what i've seen.

  • well if ya think about it you dont really need that deep of a bend depending on how fast you can invert. But yeah Tim's bend is sooo much more that his

  • 4:02... it's rare to see a vaulter that doesn't use ANY tape for their handgrip whatsoever..

  • Tim Mack's Pole Carry and Plant is outstanding.

He made it look so effortless.

  • great vid, loved the clip of lobinger where it's all black behind him, pretty sweet.

  • giuseppe gibilisco - wow

  • Nice video. Damn, Watching tommy skipper brings back memories of the Golden west Invite.

  • Songs by Benny Benassi

  • whos' the song by.

  • Benny Benassi- Turn me up
