Wow, I love both versions! I think MrSeeker77 covered all I could have said. Powerful vocals, Tina has. MB's version sounds a bit lighter and perhaps more modern. I'd happily listen to either. No matter what, people are going to compare. They're both great vocalists with loads of talent, just super different. Why do people feel the need to hate on either?
I find it both amusing and aggravating that peeps are baggin' on either version. Preferences are one thing but c'mon people, both vocalists have major talent, there's no sense saying one is better than the other. Like all good music, whether you like it or not is academic.... in the end, it's the artists' own interpretations. As for those who outright put down either, well, let's see your vid response. Let's see YOUR talent beyond the armchair and the keyboard!
I think the difference between Michelle Branch and Tina is the difference between a fine, smooth brandy (Michelle) and Bourbon (Tina). Tina has more power than any other female singer out there, but this song is more of a light and breezy jazz type of song, which, to me at least, fits better with Michelle's voice. I like Tina's version, but LOVE Michelle's.
I didn't know Tina sang the song first! Wow! Why did they go with Michelle's version to be released? I think the original would've won that Grammy too! smh
Children behave, what is there not to like about either song? They both add a different flavor to the song, Michelle did great and Tina... well she is Mrs. TINA TURNER! =)
Whoa. I never knew this! I will say, I do have a special little place in my ear for the Michelle Branch version. It's just one of those songs you can't not like, but Tina? Well... it's Tina.
I prefer this version rather then newbe michelle branch's single. Tina Turner knows how it put a spin on it rather then the boring version with Michelle Branch.
I don't know why some people can't appreciate music, they have to constantly say "what's good, what's bad." People that constantly complain are obviously insecure, nothin' better to do with their lives than put others down.
Actually this is the original. Michelle Branch was put on the song later. The song was made for Tina and that is why it sounds as such. Dopeness! Much respect Ms. Tina!
@cooolness3 ... Michelle who? That bitch who got a little fame and started badmouthing the likes of Mariah Carey? Carey just got crowned with ANOTHER song of the decade... 90's- 0ne sweet day 00's- We belong together Perhaps that Michelle is part of a Cruise ship entertainment now?
I used to hear this song a lot on the radio a year or two ago with that other singer, didn't like it at all and would change the station whenever it came on. With Tina Turner singing it, it's a totally different song and I listen to it here on YouTube all the time. I don't know why Carlos Santana didn't release it with Tina Turner doing the vocals to begin with.
"Queens come and go -- there's only one Tina Turner," Santana told The Associated Press. "I love Michelle, and she did a great interpretation of it. It's just that with all honor and respect to Michelle, there's the girl and there's the woman, and Michelle is unfolding into a woman. ... but it takes time to go from a girl to a woman."
He says Tina's version is still his favorite.
"No one can hit a note like Tina Turner," he says.
what? this song was very nice when michelle branch sing it. but with the voice of tina turner sounds like a man screaming. i dont care if tina has a lot of grammys, i think that this song is not for her. she just ruinet

mediocre? are you sure? you so fucking stupid to say something like that... she have a lot of grammys (8) all about best vocal performance. and then one stupid person call her mediocre...
Tina Turner does a great job on this song. she also sings Joni Mitchell's"Edith and the Kingpin" on Herbie Hancocks' "River, The Joni Letters" CD with Wayne Shorter playing behind her and REALLY delivers (heavy lyrics!). All three of them are Buddhist. I am too and I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for them.
Tina Turner mediocre?! Some comments are laughable. She is recognised as one of the best vocalists of the last century. Catch her especially singing the blues or soul. There's a song of hers here titled son of a preacher man......listen to that and you'll hear what a singer she is.....
the only reason this version wasnt released was because label heads got in the way. i wish tinas version was released. her voice had the soul that this song needed.
Tina, no one compares to you. You are everything-rock and roll, soul, ultimate performer, sexy, and beautiful. You are loved the whole world over! These young performers of today will not last as long as you have. Forever TINA!!
Sem essa de comparações! Tina Turner é simplesmente THE BEST. Ela é Midas. O que toca vira ouro. E eterna como CALLAS e nunca haverá outra igual. Now GAME OF LOVE on my mind forever. Congratulations Santana for the invitation!
yeah, but some ppl like more michelle's version because they've listened michelle's first..it took me some time to get in use with tina's vers....ofcourse it's way better
tina's voice might be stronger, but its just plain diva stuff. i prefer michelle's version any time, any day. tina's version does not give me the 'feel good' feeling like michelle's. and for those who's just gonna put a -1 on my comment, i guess u guys are just thinking that stronger = more soulful. =/
michelle's is more commercial that's why the record company prefered her. It's always been my fav santana song...I screamed "hurrrrraaaayyy!" when I read the news that actually it's tina's song and he likes more her version
so what all the great singer are gettin old Aretha,Patti,Gladys etc. but there still going strong they have something todays stars hav'nt got (fab, soul voices).
