Wow, I love both versions! I think MrSeeker77 covered all I could have said. Powerful vocals, Tina has. MB's version sounds a bit lighter and perhaps more modern. I'd happily listen to either. No matter what, people are going to compare. They're both great vocalists with loads of talent, just super different. Why do people feel the need to hate on either?

I find it both amusing and aggravating that peeps are baggin' on either version. Preferences are one thing but c'mon people, both vocalists have major talent, there's no sense saying one is better than the other. Like all good music, whether you like it or not is academic.... in the end, it's the artists' own interpretations. As for those who outright put down either,  well, let's see your vid response. Let's see YOUR talent beyond the armchair and the keyboard!

I think the difference between Michelle Branch and Tina is the difference between a fine, smooth brandy (Michelle) and Bourbon (Tina). Tina has more power than any other female singer out there, but this song is more of a light and breezy jazz type of song, which, to me at least, fits better with Michelle's voice. I like Tina's version, but LOVE Michelle's.

I used to hear this song a lot on the radio a year or two ago with that other singer, didn't like it at all and would change the station whenever it came on. With Tina Turner singing it, it's a totally different song and I listen to it here on YouTube all the time. I don't know why Carlos Santana didn't release it with Tina Turner doing the vocals to begin with.

Tina Turner does a great job on this song. she also sings Joni Mitchell's"Edith and the Kingpin" on Herbie Hancocks' "River, The Joni Letters" CD with Wayne Shorter playing behind her and REALLY delivers (heavy lyrics!). All three of them are Buddhist. I am too and I chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for them.
