I hate these puzzles. I took me forever to find out the actual combination and it STILL won't open.

This game is trolling the fuck out of me.

You know I went to that place be accident I went all the way back to Riverwood to steal the Golden claw that I thought it would open I got pissed until I saw on top of the screen saying I need an emerald claw.

@JediHeady That happened to me as well, go back out to Skyrim and then come back in. They then worked for me, but the door still won't open even with the correct code.

I have the xbox 360 edition and the first door combination doesn't work.

To fix the glitch for me, I had to save outside, turn off my xbox and do it again. The time it worked the key hole was blackish instead of tan and I had to enter an incorrect combination first.

@TheXshockmasterx If I remember well you find the mission in a book behind the wizard in Dragonsreach. The claw is in "Foulgunthur" or something, near the Blue Palace (witch is near Solitude)

someone probably already asked this, but how did you figure it out in the first place? and for the people with glitched just walk out, leave the area, and come back. that usually works. the game is buggy, though

@TheSwissLmfao had the same fucking problem... glitchy game... but I figuerd out that you can solve the problem by simply trying out other combinations. I don't really know what was the cause but I got it with the right combination mentioned in the video after I tried some others and turned the rings a couple of times. I turned each ring, I hope this'll help. I was very annoyed myself...

@lennybeatz It appears as though everyone's game has its own method of solving this glitch. I have attempted the method you suggested many times before, with no success. I have also tried leaving the area on several occasions and returning, also with no success. There is one mention of a fix where you must reload a save when you haven't discovered the cave yet. This is an obvious problem because I save over the same file multiple times.

@SolomnArchitect My next file is 20+ hours and 5 dungeons behind my current one, so that is -not- an option for me. Bethesda Games have always had major, game-breaking flaws with them. But that's what happens when you attempt at letting 80+ programmer's work on one thing, it can only lead to a mess. Managing bug-free code from that many people is impossible, trust me.

anyone able to get the treasure chest thats like high up on the ledge in the first room you walk into? like in the room where you pick up the emerald claw, theres this rock thing sticking out opposite it and theres a treasure chest on it....me wants it

@demondman50 Here's how you do it. Jump on the buried pillar in the ground in front of the tree where you get the emerald claw. Then, use whirlwind sprint to get over to it. It has about 20 gold and a warhammer (type depends on your level)

Oh my god people...I came to this video to see if what I was seeing was true... The door combinations are on the claw itself! You just have to look at the claw in your inventory!! I understand it if you have a smaller tv, but I bet loads of you have flatscreens larger than my house!

For those of you having a problem with the first door not opening. Try a few different incorrect combos before going to the correct one. It worked for me. I also had the same problem with the second door and this solution. Opened right up. It should take about 10 incorrect combos. Its weird I know, but it worked for me.

I'll take it that you also didn't read other similar comments about said problem before replying to mine with your lame solution that is obvious to anyone who has played the game. Notice in my comment I use the term "correct one". For those of you who don't get it, there is a glitch where the door wont open, even though you enter the correct combo (on the claw).

Thank You very much sir it was very annoying but with a little persistence your method worked. For everyone else I started with the correct sequence and went from the bottom to top and changed one at a time to the top, while trying the claw each time till it cycled around to the correct sequence again and viola.

I did the both puzzles myself, the Bird Bird Dragon was harder since there are repeating symbols which multiplies the possible combinations.

@joshwingkers Or for those who are obviously that blind, you can see the claw for the second door is obviously a different color. Like this person said before, read the book off the adventurer when you first get in and it will take you to some place else to get a different claw.

the claw for the first door is right before the first door on the pedestal. the second claw can be bought for 50 septims in winterhold from some woman.

inspecting the claws will reveal the codes for each door.

We have all the fragments, and we've been using the emerald claw with Bear Whale Snake combination and the first door wont open.

Has anyone else come across this problem. We've tried waiting, leaving the area and reloading the area. Is this a glitch?

@MrDoubleInfinity Conjuration with bound weapons + archery or one-handed is the most OP spec in this game, you don't even need the pet really. I can one shot pretty much every mob with just the normal standing dual wield power attack.

The real puzzle is the 3 amulets of gauldu that you need to obtain, luckly i already got 2 of them, just need the 3'rd
