I'm a knuckball thrower and would appreciate any helpful advice from fellow knuckleball throwers. I hear a lot of suggestions like use your fingernails to create a dead spin, but I actually use my knuckles and have more control, but if I use my finger tips, I have less control but more movement. Is there any way I can get more movement by useing my knuckles instead of my finger tips? or should I switch? They say the Knuckleball is a gimmick, but tell that to Phil Niekro.

People will tell you it's a gimmick but don't worry just shrug it off. Now if you're really serious about it just keep experimenting, there's really no other way to keep it working or to get it working. Personally I could never figure out the knuckle technique, I'm a fingertip guy, I personally think maybe the fingertips would be the right thing for you, I don't think you can generate enough velocity to make it move off your knuckles. Go with the movement and work on your mechanics. good luck

It's a freak show, but yet it works!

I like to throw it, so nasty even MLB catchers doesn't appreciate that! What ever peopel may say, if you can throw an almost perfect Knuckler over 90% of the time, you got a MLB ticket.

The idea is to feel how it feels when it works. Keep in your head that feeling and it'll go out like it should.

I grip like the guy on ViewDo. I push it out and feel my wrist kind of shaking and it sort of come out of my hands. Keep your feeling in mind and work hard.

use your finger tips in a game a few times because most people don't have a lot of control over their knuckle-ball thats why you see knuckle ballers getting a lot of wild pitches so just try it with both and which ever gets the most outs use.

I'd see you with knuckleballs. We maybe don't figure all the movement, but sometimes, it just kicks a bit just before he catches.

Even MLB catchers hate to catch this pitch since it's simply unhuman to do. Wakefield has HIS catcher and no other would do this job since he needs someone used to.

this is a sick knuckler and you can actually see movement and no rotation on the ball unlike other knuckleball videos on youtube. The knuckleball is such a fascinating pitch and i am obsessed with trying to throw it. I am only like 12 so i dont have much arm strength, but my knuckleball has like no rotation and hopefully it will work when i can throw it faster. Knuckleball pitchers often have their own catchers (ie. Mirrabelli for Wakefield) because their 'knucks are so nasty to try to catch. I've seen Mirrabelli miss-catch 4 or 5 Wakefield pitches in a single inning.

They are WAY hard to catch. My friend is an excellent catcher, but he can't catch my knuckle ball that well because you can't tell where, when, or how it will break. That's why Doug Mirrabelli is EXTREMELY valuable to the Red Sox and Tim Wakefield.
