  • Sister Vanessa , James Cleveland called and his said "Get it Girl". But it was in a deep raspy voice. :-) .. She does this song sooooo much justice!

  • When Ever the Lord Says Peace...In Memory of the 10 Years Since 911! God Bless the Nations and the People of this World! Go Forth in Peace!

  • SHE WAS 53 ON HERE!!!! AND SHE LOOKS BETTER THAN MY EX LMBO!!!!!!

  • Just amazing. Isn't that the guy from Sunday Best 2nd season in the back with the glasses.

  • I wouldn't take anything from Vanessa. Some people like apples,... some like oranges, some don't care for either (preference). I loveeeee Vanessa, her runs, riffs, etc! If she changed ANYTHING,.. she wouldn't be vanessa. Her runs/riffs is what makes her different from anyone,........ out there. I have been with her since 17yrs old and I just made 40 a week ago. And to think this song is still,... time less! A.....MAZINGGGG!

  • :41-:43 classic VBA style lol

  • Beautiful Song and Great Music

Robin Ariel Ross St Claire Holgate

    Thumbs Up

  • Everyone pray for Aretha Franlkin, she had surgery for ancreatic cancer. I know Vanessa Bell Armstrong is going to be shaken by this. She is one of her favorite singers.

  • I love this video...I need it...It blesses my soul everytime I listen to it. Nobdoy but Jesus.

  • MY GOODNESS!

  • Her ability to jump up and down the scales and go from airy to chest to Growl back down to.. then up to.. IS SICK!!!!!!!

And When she demonstrates it tells the story like she was on the ship with Jesus

  • @amazingdude2 - She is the Queen of vocals hands down. No matter how many singers hit one 2 notes above her high not. They still can't touch her. Her qualify is outstanding at 56 years old. She aint 41 in this video clip and still hitting Bb in her natural. Plenty of old singers are hitting Bbs in their headvoice. O>K>!

  • Peace Be still......sannggggg!!

  • Thats a beast....

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE TO HEAR HER SING PEACE BE STILL. I JUST WISH SHE WOULD SAY THE WHOLE WORD, "TEMPEST" AND THAT'S NOT EVEN A COMPLAINT, JUST A STRANGE ENGLISH TEACHER IDIOCINCRACY

  • @MzShugr You can't be grammatically correct when singing a song. Singing and speaking are two different things. I think if she tried to enunciate the words with perfect diction it would lessen the power and effect of the song. Like Vanessa said in this performance, sometimes it's how you say a thing that makes it more powerful. You have to put away the rules of grammar sometimes when it comes to singing. Now speaking and writing is a whole different thing.

  • @exxodus29 My comment had nothing to do with grammar. The statement is grammatically correct, I just didn't know what word was right there for the longest time. I teach the rules of grammar, and know how to break them and how to fix them, how to distort them, and how to manipulate and analyze them. Grammar and enunciation are two totally different things. All I commented on was the word. I said nothing about her use of grammar.

  • @MzShugr I understand what you are saying. For the longest time I didn't know what she said either.LOL I didn't find out until I looked up the lyrics to the song. Maybe I should have said you can't always enunciate correctly while singing instead of using grammatically correctness. That's what I meant. In fact if I had to critique Vanessa I would say that she tend to over do it with runs and riffs and sometimes it throws off the melody of the song. She does it well, but she sometimes over do it.

  • @exxodus29 LOL...I see what you are saying about the runs. Vanessa Bell does work a run. But here's a silly question for you. if she didn't do the runs, could we still consider her to be Vanessa Bell Armstrong. It would be like Beverly Crawford without her Holy Ghost dance....LOL...

Yes, I had to look up the lyrics too...well, then I had to look up a tempest, but again, I am an English nerd...LOL

  • @MzShugr Wait a second, you mean to tell me you're an English teacher and you had to look up the word tempest LOL Better not let your students hear you say that. LOL. But back to Vanessa. Yes, she would still be Vanessa. Don't get me wrong I don't mind a run here and there, but when you over do them it takes away from the song I think. For example, at 2:30 that sorta threw the song off a little and was unnecessary. Now at 3:35 that was a good one. I don't mind them at all just don't over do it.

  • @exxodus29 Yes, I am an English teacher. As a matter of fact I just graduated yesterday with my masters in English. And I look up words all the time. I am a teacher, not a dictionary. I used context clues to figure out that a tempest was a storm, my purpose for looking up Tempest was to give me a more clear image. I live in the middle of the AZ desert. We don't have storms of that magnitude. When I had a better understanding of a tempest I had a better understanding of the awesome power.

  • @MzShugr Oh, I was just joking about the the whole tempest word thing. No one, no matter how well spoken and familiar with the English language, is familiar with every word known to man. Being an avid reader and writer myself I practically live in a dictionary. I look up words all the time. I'm currently reading some of William Faulkner's work and it is a challenge indeed. I love books, words, and grammar. So I was just joking about that. I wasn't trying to be rude or offensive.

  • @exxodus29 of the storm, and the awesomeness of God. I look up words all the time. Not because I don't know them, but I want to understand them better. FYI-- I encourage and most times insist that my students look up words, especially words they think they already know.

back to Vanessa, I would totally agree at 2:30. At times it seems like she gets stuck in a run and can't get herself out of it. 3:35 is a really good one.

  • @MzShugr Oh and another singer that's guilty of over doing it with the runs is Kim Burrell. I think she does them even more than Vanessa. Again I don't mind them when they enhance the performance. But when you're just show boating it becomes a distraction from the song. When you got the runs you need to go to the bathroom and stay there until you no longer have them. You get my drift!! LOL A lot of singers are guilty of it, but these two really stand out in my head.

  • @exxodus29 LOL...I agree....Kim Burrell is a major distraction to me. It's one of the main reasons I don't listen to her. I saw on your channel that you had Mahalia Jackson on there...now there is someone whom I don't think I have ever heard sing a bad, or wrong note.

  • @MzShugr I agree with you about Mahalia Jackson. Although all of her music was done before my time. In all the clips I've heard of her I don't think I've ever heard a bad note from her. Another singer that fits in that category is Ella Fitzgerald. Her version of Summertime is the best I've heard. It's just magical.

  • that tounge roll got me up out my seat lol 3:49

  • Please do not email me again , i do not speak to people the way you are speaking to me, that not god yes i am deep, deep in god word.I say what god word says .

NORROW IS THE WAY FEW THAT FIND IT.

  • @theclarrettbo1 , sounds more like NORROW YOUR BRAIN! lol lol

  • If you are that deep then you don't need to listen to music period. One thing I have to say is SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG VANESSA BELL ARMSTRONG. YOU ARE THE BEST RUNNER IN THE WORLD & YOU HAVE THE BADDEST VOCAL RANGE. You & the Queen Beast. So bad until (theclarrettbo1) oopps, I mean Satan is jealous. U better sang gull! Sang that deepnest spirit off this YouTube. Just goes to show u no matter how much good u do the devil still has little spirits walkin the earth.

  • WE ARE TO HIDE BEHIDE THE CROSS (TO MUCH HER )WE NEED LESS OF HER (MORE OF GOD) THAT WHY PEOPLE LIKE BYNUM IS WERE SHE IS GODMUST BE OUR ONLY LOVE NOT FAME IS NOT ABOUT US .

  • @theclarrettbo1, You need to take a chill pill. Do you think before you speak? It doesn't seem like it. You are just a little too deep. Pull your head out of the sand. You sound like you are really into yourself. As the matter of fact you are too deep to be listening to this video clip and commenting. It's not about Vanessa, r u crazy. Of course it's about Vanessa. Through her gift she brings people to Christ who would never listen. So pull your head out of your oops, I mean out of the sky

  • I was told to cry loud and spare not, i was not responding to your commet again.I enjoyed her too back in the day, But now that i have grown up in god i am not moved by gift.I also have spoken to her and she was very nice ,but that does not change what the word say.Gift and calling are with out repentence lets try to walk in love when we make comment to each other. thank you and you be blessed

  • Hope i find my what ?

  • @theclarrettbo1 I hope U find inspiration, which is what Vanessa was 2 me when I met her & opened 4 her. I responded 2 u because your post said "@ImDatchic1 It's not about.." I Understand U being new 2 utube. Your post was so judgemental saying "stop focusing... " . Again, I felt her anointing & sincerity. 4 me she is a gift that chose 2 minister thru song & share God's blessings & power. I'm inspired as a musician & thankful 2 her & our Father God.

  • thank you for your comment but i was comment on what the word say about our call not on your comment. i am new at youtube so please forgive me i just was trying to find a place to write my commentthe call is to worship not to people .we as the people of god need to focus on the god of our salvation .there are a lot of people that can sing but its the anoint that we need not people .have a blesses day

THERE A DEFFENCE, MAN NEED TO COME DOWN TO MUCH MAN ,NOT ENOUGH OF GOD

  • @theclarrettbo1 For ME it's about HER & God. He gives U a choice & doesn't MAKE anyone do ANYTHING. How beautiful 4 her 2 accept her calling & YIELD 2 it his power, his word & DECIDE 2 let him work WITHIN her while ministering 2 us in song. I've opened for Vanessa & we've talked. She's made a difference in this negative JUDGEMENTAL world and has been an inspiration to me. Hope U find yours one day. PEACE UNTO U!

  • i love how vanessa sings...she gets you right into it lol. one of my all time favorites!

  • girl i just want to stop....somebody throw something at her....lol work nessa

  • when the video started with the..."who can heal your body?" part i was like.....MMM!

  • Vanessa knows she worked this thang out! I just needed to be singing the Alto part with the Altos! I will get this chance one day again! Love you Vanessa!

  • hey thats the guy from sundays best

  • People don't lose the point here...I don't care if she is an Alto or a Ventriloquist...HER voice is ANNOINTED! I am moved just listening to her online, I can only imagine how I would fall apart if I hear her in person!!

  • THAT'S MY FAVORITE MEDLEY OF ALL TIMES

  • I have back it up with facts and evidence that you see and hear on this video clip. God Bless. Oh and I know somebody is going to have a problem with what I said, but the truth speaks for itself.

  • Now you tell me, have you ever heard any other Gospel female sing all human voice parts but Vanessa Bell Armstrong? I'll answer that for you, the answer is No! As bad as those sopranos are they can not do what Vanessa does period. Proof of Vanessa's sopranos range check it out at 1:42 she hit a Bb5 (Oh I don't mind standing on top of Mt.) and @ 2:52 she hit Bb5 again when she said (Or Help is). @:42 she sang a E3 below Contralto. Enough said. Case closed.

  • @1Chantellz I don't know... Karen Clark Sheard has done some AMAZING things!!!! I believe that their upper registers are similar.

Like on one of Karen's newest songs "Prayed Up" (The live version uploaded by TheClarksSistersTV) At 228 - 2:30 and again at 2:55 - 3:00 I'm pretty certain that Karen goes above a Bb5... You can double check though...

P.S. Tell me if you like the song...

    God bless!

  • @lili2cute Just saw the video & yes Karin is up there. She's in the key of "B" & @ 2:30 & 2:55-3:00 she's hitting an A5 which is 1/2 step below Bb Vanessa hit. Do not get me wrong Karen is a bad girl & I think her upper range is higher than Vanessa's by one whole step. I've heard Vanessa hit a C6 but I've heard Karen hit a C# 6 & I think I recall her itting a D6. Karen's on an average hits the B5s. Vanessa uses her lower & mid & every now & then tests her upper range 2 let us know she can.

  • So you see when people say she's an alto or contralto, they really don't understand that a real contralto "CAN NOT SING BEYOND A "D4" which is at the top of an alto's range. Therefore, no Vanessa is not a contralto; I don't care if she stated she was one. She don't know what she is. God has blessed her to sing Bass, Tenor/Alto and Soprano.

  • In case you don't realize what a Bb5 is think about Karen Clark Sheard who hits them all of the time. In fact, I think Vanessa has the WIDEST female vocal range in Gospel. Why? Yolanda Adams, Karen Clark, and Tramaine Hawkins are sopranos and their ranges start where a soprano range should begin. Vanessa's vocal range starts where a male tenor or bass baritone voice range begins and ends some where around a C6.

  • @viz1 1st of all Vanessas vocal gift can not be placed in any box or category, but if she had to be classified, according to music theory of which I studied in college, Vanessa does not fit in any category. She has the range of a Contralto, in males called Tenor, and a soprano, not Mezzo Soprano. In this video clip alone she goes as low as a F3 in a males vocal range to a Bb 5 which is above text book voice range for a soprano. Research it and you will see what I'm talking about.

  • @viz1 No disrespect to you but you are not correct in your statement.

  • Vanessa Bell is not a soprano and never has been one.

  • Look at Zebulon Ellis from Sunday Best. lol

  • yes surr i knew i knew him from somewhere

  • I LIKE HER VOICE!

  • I Love this Song !!!!!!

    She is so AWSOME !!!!

  • The BEST.....just one of those voices that is unmistakeable

  • VBA is definitely a soprano. A contralto cannot reach those high extremes like she can in her higher register. She doesn't even use her falsetto which would mean she's definitely a soprano.

  • @jussxy26 not saying you're wrong, but I'm asking don't you think she was a soprano in the 80's and 90's because if you notice her voice has thinned out a little bit which allows her to sing that high

  • yes she is one of the best vocalist to ever be born.........I agree...

  • Ms. VBA is a contralto

  • It's a crime for a song like this to end.

  • Is she a alto or soprano? lol We may never know!

  • ALL sounds like, but whatever she is, she's definitely AWESOME

  • thats right girl sing that gospel. amen!

  • is zebolun (i kno a spelled it wrong) in that chior? cuz it ooks like hym

  • yes

  • she is one of the best vocalist ever to be born...honestly she is

  • go ahead vanessa.

  • @JustSang...Ur not the only one...I Love Vanessa Bell, she's a powerful vocalist!!! Bless The Lord!!!

  • WOW! This sends chills up my spine. Oh, how my soul has been lifted. Thank you, Jesus!

  • 7:11 is rediculous!!! Lawdy!!

  • is that Zebulon Ellis in the background sing Zebulon

  • 4:08: "You must don't know who I am"! Glory "Let me introduce myself"! LOVED this. . . truly ministered to my heart today!

  • Same here!

  • I tossed my mouse about five times before it got to 8:13, then I jumped out my chair and scared the entire office. Nessa, done got the whole office thinkin' I'm crazy now! LOL, I love this video!

  • One of my favorite "old school" female vocalists. She is sooo cold!

  • its dead she killed it i love her we talk to much i love u mama nessa

  • She was KILLIN IT!!!!! My God, I love Vanessa Bell Armstrong. did ya hear the "when" She tore that when up. lol.

  • This woman is the true definition of a gospel singer. Can you not feel the anointing

  • this woman iz the best singer i ever heard >>>i remember hearing her live in rochester ny it waz truely a word from god

  • She is a great singer try the voice of Sandra Crouch....... a true legend

  • Ive seen some bad(in the good way)singers, but I havent seen anybody top Vanessa yet! You cant practice what she has, this was birth given. I dont know if anyone remember the scene from the movie Sleeping Beauty when the three fairy god mothers came and blessed her with her gifts. I swear everytime I see and hear VBA sing thats the scene that comes to mind. She was brought this gift hand delivered and it cant be taken away. AMAZING!!!

  • Sang to Jesus Vanessa!

  • ummm no to be critical... but the sopranos are doin somethin real wierd, the altos are flat and the tenors arent blending well... and they all look like old ladies.. the long black skirts,,, not a good look for singers...

love the song tho.. one of my favs

  • she just recorded a live cd.... it's going to be crazy.

  • the recording was off the chain

  • the women in this video is not dressed presentable to be in a choir

  • Comment removed

  • That is Zebulan Ellis form the Second season of Sundaybest!

  • love dis song but the man in the first few seconds of the video wit the glasses looks exactly like the man from Sunday's Best season 2

    correct me if I'm wrong

  • i agree. i think it is

  • it is him...Zebulon Ellis

  • yes that is zebulon

  • I absoloutley Love Vanessa!

  • I see your point! But I do think Whitney in prime was dramatic coloratura soprano, I would say Nessa is a dramatic too in her prime!

  • She sounds somewhat dramatic her tone is not light enough for lyric. She might be more of spinto thats is Tremaine!

  • Tremaine head notes always sound so full and Betty Nelson as well. Maybe it is the mic. I know for certain Whitney is dramatic coloratura because she sung with Pavoritti in prime with no mic hitting huge head and superhead opera notes!

  • my favorite song is Peace Be Still and she looks so beautiful on this vid.

  • Vanessa Vanessa! Big ups to the background singers too!

  • 7:38 made me faint.

  • SHE SINGS PEACE BE STILL TO THE HEAVENS NEVER TO BE RETURNED OMG sHE SINGS DOWN YALL !!!!

  • Lord whatever your will be LORD. Thank you Jesus. Whatever the Storm ....PEACE BE STILL!...LORD touch my son and move him in your word cause I know that only you can do this...DEVIL get thy behind us! You can't have him! and I Thank you all ready....Halleluiah

  • Did yall know that Vanessa, Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson were the top three contenders for the role of Effie? We know who won out of the three but we know who would have had that movie still playing in theatres today just because of how she would have done "And Im Telling You". My goodness that would have been something to see and hear her version on the big screen! She only lost out because of the youth factor. Man that would have been nice to see.

  • how funny are the faces of the background singers??? on mute it look like they killin it...but they sound CRAZY lol...while vanessa KILLIN!!!

  • OMG this WOMAN is just too many things but awesome is one word to describe her. GOOD PERFORMANCE.

  • Jesus-la-Weezus!! What in the world do we do with this woman!!! Why is she not the most well known richest well known to everybody across the nation person on the planet???!!!!! What is going on in this world that this is not the most noted and recognized gospel singer in the whole world!! MY GOD this aint right!!!!!!!!! This is just not rigtht! Merccy!!!

  • i fell out at 3:36!!! Rev. Vanessa don't even make sense!!! what a fellowship all by her self!!!!!!

  • At 2:54 she need to be push off the stage how she hit that note sang motha

  • she lost alot of weight, but her hair looks good on her!

  • She looks so good in this clip!!!!!!!!

  • Like Whitney Houston! She rarely uses whistle register but she is dramatic coloratura as well. When Whitney does go up there it so so effortlessly much like that note I heard from Vanessa!!!!!!!!!!

  • whitney uses head voice..but cetainly not whistle register.. Mariah Careh and Shante Moore, they use the whistle register

  • Really then what was that whistle B6 Whitney hit Brunei 1996 IWDWS and the video on you tube too. Also The whistle notes MNINS live Simple Truth!!!!!! I can name you at least five concert Whitney has went into whistle octave effortlessly! Whitney is a live singer who can do anything she wants. Know what your talking about before you comment!!!!!!!!

  • baby i not getting into a battle with you. so you can hold on to all of that attitude. pls look up what the whistle register actually is and then proceed.

  • Her hair look's pretty to me

  • Sang!!!!

  • Her range is sick in this clip!!!!!!!!

  • Tremaine Hawkins I think is dramatic coloratura and definitely Betty Nelson!!!!!!!

  • 2:54 is just stupid!! shes a legend fosho!

  • That's a sharp lil' haircut she got there!

  • Oh, she really does wind it up, doesn't she. Never understood how some singers can do that

  • LAWD I WANNA SLAP HER SHO NUFF

  • she's STILL a beast!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its amazing after 25yrs that alls she has to do is say one word for the crowd to go wild.... "Master"....and they jus instantly get on their feet

  • how do u describe vanessa's vocal range...colatura soprano?

  • YES... Dramatic coloratura soprano since her natural timbre is heavy but her upper register falls in line with coloratura soprano range and agility. Vanessa Bell Armstrong is unbelievable!

  • coloratura soprano is much higher than that. Have you seen an Opera? Cause Beverly Sills voice is much higher... do ya homework before you start using grown folks words....lol

  • LOL! You are WILD! VBA's voice fits within the parameter of a dramatic coloratura soprano's which is heavier than a lyric coloratura soprano's tone. It's even more evident when she utilizes more of her head tones; which is rare because those tones aren't necessary for the style of gospel music that she sings. A lot of sopranos have those notes even if they don't use them much. Beverly Sills [also J. Sutherland; M. Callas; etc.] used more of her range for her genre [opera] of music. That's all.

  • ReddzVoice I think she is coloratura cause I heard a whistle note from her before, does she sing in whistle register often.

  • VBA rarely uses that part of her range. But it's there! Such an amazing vocalist, she is.

  • But what if I'm a JHWAP soprano??? Where do I fit? LOL....Get your summer outfits and good things together!!! You know who this is, but don't use my name. He told me to remain unanimous...LMAO!!!

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are NUTS! I knew who it was from the 1st line! OMG... That was too funny! LMBO!

  • I know cause there is video when she hits a whistle for a brief minute. Twinkie and Karen can hit whistle notes too so there dramatic coloraturas too but it seems Vanessa gets up there more effortlessly!!!!!

  • She is perfect as usual!

But she was somehow MORE in voice that day!

  • Peace Ah GLory!!!!!!

  • sang auntie nessa!!!

  • OMG!

  • lol I'm mad the choir was late coming in on the first part..

  • okay...very amateur!!! who booked them!!! they aren't that hot anyway once they did come in!!

  • Yes she can sing...Go head....

  • vanessa is has a powerful voice in gospel music, she is my favorite singer and i love her so much, keep blessing god with your voice love ya.....

  • Oooh, I would have loved to been the pianist for this performance. That arrangement is hot, especially when she begins "Peace be Still."
