So does this count towards your bandwidth? Because now ATT has 250GB/month limit for U-verse people, it'd be pointless, because that'll eat up all that data fast watching HD channels.
What the hell is this shit. I can download 8gig xbox games but I can't download a fricken 40meg tv application. fuck you at&t. What the fuck do you think you are. way to be green and shove more cd's into the already full landfills.
One hundred bucks for a disk and a remote from china? No fucking way.
way too expensive and probably easy to install for a computer savvy person like me, $154 for the kit and someone to come to your to house to install it is a bit much
@BetoTheButcher Its the HD video cables that are most expensive. Microsoft sells them for an expensive $50 price point. If you use the yellow composite cables that come with the xbox, your getting the worst quality picture.
@iSquishy89 do you know you can buy an HDIM cable for $10 on Amazon? And not only that, the Uverse tech will give you one for FREE. I have Uverse. My neighbor installs uverse. I recommended uverse to all my cul-de-sac. I know a Uverse Field Manager. It costs almost nothing.
does this just use the internet cable to stream U-verse like can you use the original (gen. 1) xbox 360 to watch u-verse on it or do you need an updated xbox to play u verse??
@1yoyo105 i think he means that since your xbox is going to be on for a long ass time while watching tv and for games will help make it burn out faster
100 bucks for a value of 17? Damn ShareATT you have stooped pretty low on your customers. I'm glad I got rid of tv last month, hulu actually gives 720p for free, less commercials and no subscription fees. Besides that fam guy and basic HD come in free with digital converter....no use for the crappy main package att since I basically get premium from other sources for free. BTW, when is att gonna set up our high speed network since us taxpayers gave you million and you lied to us...
@bluebrent420 So you can watch it wireless? It doesn't seem like that would work very well. I was going to run a wire to mine somehow because I did not trust it.
@bluebrent420 edit:: was just playing around with the connection and you can do it through wireless. had no problems what so ever all you gotta do is have your xbox connected to the same network as your att receiver.
@ coolmac.... u r only required to pay a deposit if you have bad payment history or horible credit. for most ppl the install is free and you get up to 300 cash back. and fyi its 449.99 and only 200 of that is a deposit. and you get it back as a $5 credit every month till its paid back.
@BetoTheButcher Try Windows Media Center. Does all the stuff does for FREE. Why doesn't M$ advertise that. What IDIOTS !!!!! Not to mentioin it is SOOOO Much better than U-Verse
@CoolMac2008 i just go t this yesterday and not only was there no mention what so ever of a $500.00 deposit, because i got all three services the $250 installation fee was waived
Anyone else notice that they don't have the latest update for their 360, although they are signed into xbox live? There must be some hack, so you don't have to update.
I don't get TV in my apartment due to budget constraints, but I love watching tv at my folks' house because they have U-verse. I'm guessing I can't activate the Xbox in my apartment through their account, can I (knowing we live in separate homes)?
Looks really cool. No U-Verse in my area, however I will patiently wait until this is also available for FiOS TV, which also uses Microsoft's IPTV protocol as it's backbone.
So I went ahead and got this installed. Paid for the software, remote, etc, and it was giving me an error that it was not connected properly. My tech told me it was because it takes a while to activate. He left, and now Im thinking its because I have my 360 connected via VGA cable.
DOES THIS REQUIRE HDMI? Or should it be able to run through VGA??
Makes me wonder why Microshaft cant do anything to update their insanely shitty Windows Media Center functionality. Plus 99 Dollars more a month, and not to mention only being able to use this on AT&T's also insanely shitty servers doesnt seem like a deal at all...
@BobCoffins Just a comment... It isn't $99 per month. It's a $99 one time purchase of the Xbox 360 U-verse hardware. In fact, this is a great deal because if you use your XBox 360 as a receiver, AT&T does not charge you a $7 receiver fee for it. This means that you can, essentially, get a single DVR and hook up multiple XBox 360's to it without having to pay $7 for each. Works good if you are like me and have more than one Xbox 360.
@FKNhostile187 only works over fiber optic using IPTV as the backbone. Brighthouse, like Comcast, RCN, Cox, etc., is a traditional cable company, and provides television in a different manner than the telcos who are shifting over to IPTV over fiber.
I did the exact same math that Hunger4Battle just posted. In the end, you also have to figure your xbox is probably burning out quicker too, so it's risky. The two year payback window is too long in these times where tech changes rapidly.
Pretty cool. I already do this with an HTPC I have in a separate room an I stream all of my content including live television to my 360. At first used wireless but the delay killed me so I ran cat5 through my house and it's instant. Also for those enquiring about fiber, I worked for a cable company recently and the cost to run fiber to every home is astronomical. There has to be a handoff to copper or coax at some point.
@MTPG13 Well great philosophy BUT, I live in an upper middle class BRAND new gated community built 4 months ago and all we have is FTTN with UGLY VRAD's because their too cheap to run real copper.
If anyone has this and would be willing to upload the disc please PM me. I tried to order it but was told I'd have to also have At&t internet... I have a very good deal with time warner on my internet so I'm not gonna make that move it. I'm also in IT and I know it would work so long as its attached to their gateway.
guess there is an adapter that they plug in, and then software disc you upload. and maybe they call customer service to activate it? they should hook up discount, let you buy the kit and hook it up
as bad as when i heard geek squad was charging people to plug in a playstation LOL (really look it up)
While the price is too high (it does include a remote as well and remember that AT&T always charges $55.00 to come out - a drag), this might still be a reasonable price in certain situations. The AT&T DVR costs $15.00 a month, whether AT&T bundles it (with U200 and up) or charges you separately (for U100 and Ubasic). If that is the case, you would pay this off in less than a year and in two years you would be ahead of the curve. This doesn't apply if you have U200 and above....

$5/month to rent a box or $150 for the xbox setup. I don't really see the point in this with that price. It should probably only cost the $20 that the remote cost.
Remember to use this you need HIGH SPEED INTERNET witch will COST about 80$ A MONTH Plus the 99 dollar "xbox kit" and 55 dollar installation fee 10 dollar a moth to keep it. add that up and see if you still want it.
@TubePirate1001 If you have AT&T U-Verse TV by itself without their internet service, then you're an idiot. Why would you pass up BLAZING FAST fiber optic internet??!
@TubePirate1001 It's all in what people want bud. Me...I signed up for the U-Verse 300 and am paying less than I did with the local cable company (total) and that was with a basic home phone line as well. My bill's about 160/month for U300, 12MBps net, & Unlim. phone. Subtracting $7 from that would be great, but it'd take about 1-1/2 years or so to recoup the 360 kit cost. Eventually AT&T will wake up and offer it cheaper...
What a rip off! $99 for a remote that is worse than the multiple remotes I already have plus a $55 fee to have a guy put a disc into the xbox for me. Limited to 1 xbox. seriously! ATT screws it up again man they suck.
We should all just setup media centers with CABLE and unsubscribe from uverse because this has no more value than that solution.
@leewan17 There is no reason other than cost and maybe an unknown agreement with M$ and AT&T keeping Sony from doing something like this with the PS3. Sony already has Catch Up TV. Mubi & PlayTV for the PS3. There has been rumors of Android Apps coming to the PS3 & PSP2 but there nothing but rumors.
Why doesn't Micro Soft release the ability of U-Verse with Window Media Center?
How much does renting a U-verse receiver cost per month? I'm wondering how much money this setup could save you over time? Most people have more than one TV they need to connect so this could be a significant savings each month. I have 6 TVs right now for example.
@cool8man STB is $7 or $8 a month. Id like the option to install more than one Xbox. We have two in the house and they sell them for like $100 used now on Craigslist.
All this does making your 360 as a secondary set-top box.
You are required to have the set-top box, be subscribed into this AT&T service. This is pointless to pretty much everyone.
I'd rather just press one button on a remote to change video input instead of pulling out my game disc, inserting this AT&T service disc. Wow so "super-easy".
@Hakern it's still worth it because you have less boxes to rent. if you only need 1 set top and have the remaining rooms of the house be a 360, that's a win. plus, you can go back and forth between gaming and tv
I'll try to sound as less offensive as I can here.
Maybe you have an alien TV, but switching video inputs are usually done by one click on all of the TV's, HDTV or CRT. Going back and forth between gaming and TV will be more annoying with this. I'm not sure if you own a 360, but as a PS3/360/Wii owner, switching discs is always pain in the ass On any consoles.
And most of people put their best or main TV's and video game consoles together. There is no remaining room in usual cases.
@Hakern You obviously weren't listening bro. He uses a disc to install the required software. I'm pretty sure you don't need the disc in the console to watch tv. It's cool if you already have U-verse. 1 less remote.
@Hakern your not understanding things right when you put in the installation disc you install it to your 360 HDD after thats done you will not have to insert the disc everytime you would like to watch tv using uverse
@BetoTheButcher im not sure if it is 150 it may be just the installation kit which is more than likely you would be able to install it on multiple xbox 360's
@Hakern The disc is used for a one-time install. You do not need to insert the disc each time. This isn't PS3/Wii Netflix, it's more like Xbox 360 Netflix.
@Hakern You don't have to have that service disc in it to watch U-Verse, that's just to install the program, otherwise, why would a hard drive be required? U-Verse is in over 2 million homes and growing. This is a big deal to a lot of people, especially if you don't want to pay that monthly STB fee.
@MrCoolguy80 still ticks us off that theres a fee for anything. we can install it ourselves vis USB thumbdrive or Xbox Live like every other app installed on it.
Does this mean. I don't need U-Verse setup box? I have the New xbox 360 and internet and cable connection from comcast. can I buy $99 xbox kit from AT&T, load it up and use my XBOX as U-Verse setup box?
@ashithmr lol nope, you need AT&T Service TV. lol i has it :P and its WAY better than cox it works better. sadly their are only 2million people in this world that have u-verse.
There is no reason this couldn't be offered as a free download from Live if you already have a remote (or can use a controller) and are hooked up to the gateway via ethernet.
this sounds like a great solution for me. I recently moved into an apartment with Verizon Fios internet only and my roommates dont sound keen on getting tv via Verizon anytime soon, so I could just get myself squared away via my xbox 360. Is there a required ammount of hard drive on the 360's side of things? I have an old 20gb model
Oh, I see. So if I have 4 tv's with u-verse boxes (3 reg boxes and 1 hd/dvr box), I could add a 5th tv, all i would need is an xbox with the ATT disk?
It's great to see these advancements in video streaming, however, I'm unclear on somethings. For 1, does the Xbox replace a HD/DVR box totally and if so, does one have to pay for the DVR service if we use the Xbox as a DVR? Also, will there be a way were an AT&T DVD is NOT required, because I game and I would like the ability to go from game to TV to check scores and what not with out having to swap disks.
@tmadison1970 This would still require the box for the Total Home DVR. The Xbox 360 acts like a remote receiver--not as a DVR. You can however control the DVR functions through the Xbox 360.
I would like to see an option for customers just to buy the installation CD for $10-$20. In my case I already have the remote control and my Xbox is connected directly into Ethernet, so I don't need most of what is in that kit, and I would hate to buy stuff I have no use for.
I agree with dennisqwilson, I want to stream movies to and of my STB's, but ever since I got U-Verse there has been horrible lag from the TotalHomeDVR system. I ran cat5e cables to see if that would help the lag between the STB's, but to no avail. A company in Gonzales, called Eatel, is starting IPTV service as well. They have already integrated with XboX 360, as well as upgrading to the second generation STB's that can pause and plat LIVE tv on ANY STB. When will you guys be getting this?
So does this count towards your bandwidth? Because now ATT has 250GB/month limit for U-verse people, it'd be pointless, because that'll eat up all that data fast watching HD channels.

We should all just setup media centers with CABLE and unsubscribe from uverse because this has no more value than that solution.
dvaronson 1 year ago
@dvaronson These remotes are mad cheap online now. ATT is crazy and greedy.

I personally would be worried about the 360 over heating due to typical long TV viewing times.
What about for PS3 owners getting a feature like this or a feature like this for Desktops or laptops?
Also AT&T how about so more Android Apps !!
shystieworld 1 year ago
@shystieworld Microsoft owns the software that runs U-verse
leewan17 1 year ago
@leewan17 There is no reason other than cost and maybe an unknown agreement with M$ and AT&T keeping Sony from doing something like this with the PS3. Sony already has Catch Up TV. Mubi & PlayTV for the PS3. There has been rumors of Android Apps coming to the PS3 & PSP2 but there nothing but rumors.
Why doesn't Micro Soft release the ability of U-Verse with Window Media Center?
shystieworld 1 year ago
How much does renting a U-verse receiver cost per month? I'm wondering how much money this setup could save you over time? Most people have more than one TV they need to connect so this could be a significant savings each month. I have 6 TVs right now for example.

@cool8man STB is $7 or $8 a month. Id like the option to install more than one Xbox. We have two in the house and they sell them for like $100 used now on Craigslist.
BetoTheButcher 1 year ago
All this does making your 360 as a secondary set-top box.
You are required to have the set-top box, be subscribed into this AT&T service. This is pointless to pretty much everyone.
I'd rather just press one button on a remote to change video input instead of pulling out my game disc, inserting this AT&T service disc. Wow so "super-easy".
Hakern 1 year ago
@Hakern it's still worth it because you have less boxes to rent. if you only need 1 set top and have the remaining rooms of the house be a 360, that's a win. plus, you can go back and forth between gaming and tv
dirtyvu 1 year ago 2
@dirtyvu
Hakern 1 year ago
@Hakern You obviously weren't listening bro. He uses a disc to install the required software. I'm pretty sure you don't need the disc in the console to watch tv. It's cool if you already have U-verse. 1 less remote.
StumanRH 1 year ago 8
@StumanRH your right you just need to install u verse then the disc is no longer needed to access its content
gamefan101 1 year ago 2
@Hakern your not understanding things right when you put in the installation disc you install it to your 360 HDD after thats done you will not have to insert the disc everytime you would like to watch tv using uverse
gamefan101 1 year ago
@gamefan101 So they charge $150 (install kit+tech trip) to install 1 disc into your xbox? ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!
BetoTheButcher 1 year ago
@BetoTheButcher im not sure if it is 150 it may be just the installation kit which is more than likely you would be able to install it on multiple xbox 360's
gamefan101 1 year ago
@gamefan101 I read there is a $99 charge for the webkit, then a $55 charge to have a tech go out to install it.
I also read an article that its limited to 1 xbox at this point.
BetoTheButcher 1 year ago
@Hakern The disc is used for a one-time install. You do not need to insert the disc each time. This isn't PS3/Wii Netflix, it's more like Xbox 360 Netflix.
cool8man 1 year ago
@Hakern You don't ever have to put the disc back in once the install is done.
jayman16 1 year ago
@Hakern You don't have to have that service disc in it to watch U-Verse, that's just to install the program, otherwise, why would a hard drive be required? U-Verse is in over 2 million homes and growing. This is a big deal to a lot of people, especially if you don't want to pay that monthly STB fee.
MrCoolguy80 1 year ago
@MrCoolguy80 still ticks us off that theres a fee for anything. we can install it ourselves vis USB thumbdrive or Xbox Live like every other app installed on it.
AT&T = GREED

Another reason why the ps3 is sub par.
DallasJRC 1 year ago
Does this mean. I don't need U-Verse setup box? I have the New xbox 360 and internet and cable connection from comcast. can I buy $99 xbox kit from AT&T, load it up and use my XBOX as U-Verse setup box?
ashithmr 1 year ago
@ashithmr lol nope, you need AT&T Service TV. lol i has it :P and its WAY better than cox it works better. sadly their are only 2million people in this world that have u-verse.
mrgurth1 1 year ago
@ashithmr yeah thats completely right thats all you need well also a subscription to at&t
gamefan101 1 year ago
Will this have the same channels as regular cable?
clash360 1 year ago
There is no reason this couldn't be offered as a free download from Live if you already have a remote (or can use a controller) and are hooked up to the gateway via ethernet.
ssj4android 1 year ago 2
this sounds like a great solution for me. I recently moved into an apartment with Verizon Fios internet only and my roommates dont sound keen on getting tv via Verizon anytime soon, so I could just get myself squared away via my xbox 360. Is there a required ammount of hard drive on the 360's side of things? I have an old 20gb model
4sakenaiden 1 year ago
@4sakenaiden No AT&T Uverse available in a Verizon area. Theres a non-compete.
BetoTheButcher 1 year ago
Oh, I see. So if I have 4 tv's with u-verse boxes (3 reg boxes and 1 hd/dvr box), I could add a 5th tv, all i would need is an xbox with the ATT disk?
tmadison1970 1 year ago
It's great to see these advancements in video streaming, however, I'm unclear on somethings. For 1, does the Xbox replace a HD/DVR box totally and if so, does one have to pay for the DVR service if we use the Xbox as a DVR? Also, will there be a way were an AT&T DVD is NOT required, because I game and I would like the ability to go from game to TV to check scores and what not with out having to swap disks.
tmadison1970 1 year ago
@tmadison1970 This would still require the box for the Total Home DVR. The Xbox 360 acts like a remote receiver--not as a DVR. You can however control the DVR functions through the Xbox 360.
scc4fun 1 year ago

All well and good, but when will we get the ability to stream home movies from our PC to our U-verse TV the same way we can stream photos and music?
