before anyone accuses me i am male i voted liberal in the last election and am happy with the coalition so far, but the title is wrong i think Harman does well in this speak and has been good foil since brown left, Labour would do well to hand onto her but won't. Also for the person that mentioned about the number doubling under the povety line, i work in this area what they never say is that since 1945 the population has doubled so poverty figures doubling would in fact be the same also...

@11967lovepunk Funny that, as under Labour the poverty gap widened to it's largest since during the 2nd world war, and 4 million more more families were living below the poverty line.

The reality is Labour would have made exactly the same cuts had they got into power, they would have had to as there simply wasn't any money left.

@icetonky You sound like your quoting from some media source, I can only go on my own personal experience of living under a Labour Goverment for 13 years and bringing up my children. Compared to when I started comprehensive school in1979, living standards from my experience have greatly improved. There is a long list of things they have done too long to go through. My sons crumbling school was rebuilt and gave the children some pride back, he has just finished his first year at University.

You seem to have an incredibly rose tinted view on the 31 years since you left School, perhaps you overlooked how strong the economy was running up to 97? It's ridiculous try and argue that living standards have improved purely thanks to Labour (which seems to be what you're implying).

And before you accuse me of being a Tory, I actually voted Labour in 97.

My Mother-in-law is 80 years old and has recently had a triple bypass operation, If she would of been in this situation in a few years time I think it would be a different story, just two examples of why I think life for people who were not born into a wealthy family have improved.
