He had a food poison that damaged hard his vocal chords and though after a few years he's, in my opinion, BACK!
And don't forget, LaBrie don't often sing this kind of music. Try to pus James Hetfield sing a dream theater song... And don't get me wrong, metallica and dream theater are my favourite bands
All this just to say: STOP HATING! IF YOU WANNA HATE, HATE POP, R&B, HIP-HOP... NOT METAL!!
agree! metallica is one of my favorites, but they dont play that hard songs, but still, they are talented as fuck (When you write songs like Orion, Call Of Ktulu, Ride the Lightning etc. you have to have some talent)
To begin metallica is thrash metal, power metal Dream teather is, are different styles.
Metallica has sold many more records because it makes better songs, better songs and if it is because they are better. (this is for people who criticize that dream theater is better)
@Goldentrucha Dream Theater's Progressive Metal. What the devil are you smoking? Metallica's sold more records because they've diversified their style and are one of the Big Four of Thrash. Dream Theater is generally considered the big ONE of Progressive Metal, thanks to Images and Words. Look the album up sometime, it's great. On par with Metallica's good stuff.
@Goldentrucha Not to split hairs but Dream Theater isn't power metal and never really was. Power metal would be something along the lines of Symphony X. Dream Theater kind of needs their own genre because they are perhaps the most diverse (and most talented) group of musicians in the modern band era.
@Goldentrucha Also, you can't say that Metallica writes (or wrote) better songs. Metallica's music is certainly easier to appreciate because it is alot simpler and more straightforward. But sometimes to get the best experience out of a song you've got to listen to it many times and understand what they were trying to write. The entire 43:00 title track 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence is that way. Doesn't necessarily make one band better than the other, to each his own.
Damn. I just couldn't listen to this because of Labrie... I just can't stand his articulation and how he sings the vowels... I pressed stop after the beginning of the 2nd verse... How he sang the words "now" and "somehow" was just too much for me... :)
@gearslut69 It couldn't have been the Mark V, since that wasn't out until 09'. And I have a feeling this recording is much earlier than that, so it's probably the Mark IIC+.
John may to be able to solo better than Kirk, but James is a better rhythm player. John has even said how James' parts are "murder for his right arm".
James is a better downpicker, definitely. He's pretty much unmatched when it comes to that shit, but there's no way he could handle John's time signatures. DT's rhythm work is more difficult, and if you ask me, John is a better rhythm player because of how tightly he can keep up with that every night.
You know, for being a live performance, considering he has bad nights more than good ones, considering the voice is entirely different, considering it must have been uncomfortable as fuck, James LaBrie did a good job.
There's no comparison John Petrucci is just an overall better guitarist; I don't like Metallica any less because of it though, Metallica and Dream Theater forever!!!
no you can not mess this solo up!!!!! it's one of the greatest solos ever writen and for you guys down ther Kirk plays it better than jhon when he played it in 2010. ohh and at 1:06 idk why but it reminds me of the Zelda games =)
His singing makes it sound like hair metal...good or bad, take ur pick
