@alohachristine Thank you for that. It is going to go on my Scottish album but I am totally redoing it as Richard will be singing it as a duet with me. :) xx
This is very nice. It's pedantic I know, but it's not actually a traditional song, but was written by Francis McPeake. I only know because my favourite band made the same mistake in the 1970s on a B side
No it was written by a man called Robert Tannahill & published in 1803 as the "Braes of Balquidder", which is what McPeake plagiarised and tried to pass off as his own!
@DonegalRaymie201 You are absolutely right. All McPeake did was basically change the line " Braes of Balquidder" to "all go together". Lyrically the piece is definitely Scottish. The melody is not the same but is similar. Probably just the normal folk process. He may have planted a copyright on it but that is not the same as actually having written the thing.
Well, it's 2012 and finally we agree on something LOL!
In fairness to old Francie McPeake, he himself NEVER claimed to have written this, but said he learned it from an uncle of his. It was his family that claimed he wrote it, when they saw £ signs in popular cover versions.
For what it's worth, I think the original Tannahill lyric, is far superior, poetically speaking, and deserves to be better known that the Anglicized McPeake variant here!
@jgrahamsmith175 The music's McPeake's, but his lyrics are based on 18th century Scottish poet Robert Tannahill's Braes of Balquhiddder (I'm neither Scottish nor Irish, btw):
Love the song! I like when Richard is fingerpicking with the guitar, but when he is doing a big "strum" as a beat (I don't know those technical guitar terms...), it's kinda harsh and jarring... again, I do like when he's fingerpicking.
....so...you're going to do a Scottish album, heh? Yayyyyyyyyyyyy!! :D
@Ceilticheart Yes but fortunately you are hearing the candid there only. Once it is mixed it sounds different again. Mum's mic on her camera is not bad but of course it is not as good as the mixing desk version Richard is making from it. ♥
I remember you doing this on the X Factor forums 3 years ago on the advice of Mrs B, which was when we were first got to know each other. I liked it then and thought it stood out as the sort of song that suited your voice best. Have enjoyed it just as much the second time round.
@theytrebel time has really passed fast I didn't realise it was that long ago. :O Well it is really for mum I am doing this because it is what she has been wanting for the last few Christmases and birthdays. :P ♥
@EmilyHurlock thanks love. Busy with college and only two more days for the EP. Then I have only to wait for the tutor saying if the paperwork is OK and do a few more assessments and that is us for the year. Oh and battle of the bands in two weeks time. :O xxx
Sorry... I was saying that I thought your simple version / base track was very pretty and endearing. It is nice of you to share it! Now hurry up and get that full track finished, will ya!?!
What a gorgeous song. I was very pleased to hear you sing it. It is really right up your alley. I sure would love to hear the final product, though I enjoyed your d
So lovely Brigid! Whether you're cranking out some seriously, soulful blues, or singing a wonderfully sweet tune like this, you shine brilliantly! I think that may be indicative of true talent! Beautiful performance! ~ I love the music in you! <3
Very lurverly- looking forward to somehow doing a video for the others, already done... Loch Lomond is bound to be a corker. Fancy a trip north-west of here...? :)

@jgrahamsmith175 Thanks. :) Yes, I know. I could have labelled it as "(folk)" but didn't think it would matter all that much to anyone.

Check out the original, if you doubt me.

I will twin thee a bow'r
By the clear siller fountain
And I'll cover it o'er
Wi' the flooers o' the mountain
Let us go, Lassie, go
Noo the simmer's in prime
Wi' the flooers richly bloomin'
Wi' the wild mountain thyme
A' the moorlan's perfumin'
