You realize that the US civil war didn't start over the issue of slavery, right? The 50/50 rule, the missouri compromise (and bleeding Kansas that followed), the Dred Scott decision (which basically made it legal to own slaves in 'free' states), all happened before the civil war.
And the bit about ignoring the assumption bill, what are you talking about? It passed (spreading the burden of northern war-debt) and the capitol got moved, so no one ignored anything. Was win win.

It was the federal government that invaded the South. The South wanted nothing from the north so NO they were not trying to destroy the US, its the feds that have doing a wonderful job of that over the last 149 years. The US government regarded secession as illegal and refused to recognize the Confederacy. Although British and French commercial interests sold the Confederacy warships and materials, no European or other foreign nation officially recognized the CSA as an independent country. When those southern states joined the union, they entered into no agreement which forbade them from backing out at some point in the future. Secession was their legal right and an understandable decision because southern states had been denied some important rights guaranteed to them under the US Constitution. States rights is a very hot issue today because the federal government blatantly ignores the US Constitution more than ever.

The CSA Constitution was nearly identical to the US Constitution with a few changes here and there. One change was to explicitly recognize the "right" to hold slaves. Yet, they somehow forgot to add an explicit recognition of the right to secede?
The fact is that Southerners started the Civil War for only one reason: To preserve and expand slavery.

Oh ... I see. In 1860 ... fewer than 25% percent of southerners owned slaves or were from families that did ... but they just had to fight a war against the morally superior northern states (which also had slavery). Many grateful ex-slaves eventually migrated to Americas most industrious northern city (Detroit) and turned it into the wasteland that it is today.

The census is used to determine how many representatives each state gets, and how to best allocate federal funds.
So please, by all means, do not fill it out. If enough dumb rednecks get skipped over by the census, you will have fewer representatives and get less funding. More for everyone else. I'm okay with that.
