Has anyone noticed that every even year since 2004, maria has won a slam? 2004 wimbledon, 2006 us open, 2008 australian, 2010 ....? It's great to see her back playing well today against Petrova! Good luck against Venus. Go Maria!!

Service is definitely looking stronger. It's still pretty inconsistent but it's seeming to be working better for Masha now.

God I'm so glad she's back. I doubt her chances against Venus in the next round but it'll be good for Maria to play against one of the best players in the world at the moment, and she should be happy with her floor-wiping of Petrova in the 2nd round tbh.

Give Maria some time and she'll be back to her blitzing ways, definitely.

OMG! That's crazy. She's young and has so much time to correct those liabilities. Besides, she's still adjusting to her new style of play. she has to learn to be comfortable with her new abbreviated swings she uses to protect her shoulder. That's gonna take time. Her body might be 100% but her game needs a little more time to heal.

It's a little extreme to say this superstar won't be #1 again.

Hello! i was at the match. Maria's play was very aggressive. She played well but had too many errors in the 2nd set. She had many double faults as did Ai Sugiyama. Maria threw in a few effective drop shots as well! I would've like to see Maria come up to new more however.
