  • OK - where has this gem been hiding?

Very melodic Bill, and of course 100% original.

  • sound orribleeeeeeeeeee!

  • Nice!

  • amazing video.

Im not into drum solos that much but this one is amazing. The guitar by Kazumi is also mega cool.

    thnx for the post

  • Nice post my bourbon. I've been listening to Kazumi since "Lonesome Cat" days. Even have some vinyl of Watanabe. And Bruford ? Can't get enough. On another "note" I wonder if there are any music posts on youtube without the ever popular Wile E. Coyote comments? I'm thinking no.

  • Right, Kazumi is no Holdsworth. I saw Al DiMeola and Kazumi at the Mt Fuji Jazz Fest in 1993 on stage together for one song ... Spain. That was written by Chic Corea who was also playing with his Elektic Band that night. Too bad Al didn't play one with them, but Mike Miller was great just the same..

  • Bill was one of the few drummers willing to take technology and meld it into his particular music style without a flinch to what traditionalist might consider of drumming.

This is an amazing video displaying not only his talent for really odd time signatures but his natural inhibition to immerse his playing with as much color and timbre as he could! BTW nice playing by Jeff Berlin and Kazumi!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • The import DVD is excellent.

  • Power trio...to say the least. Bill Bruford one of the most intelligent drummers of all time. Jeff Berlin a true bass master . Kazumi Watanabe 1st time hearing his name for me seemed good but no holdsworth or Beck.

  • I heard jeff berlin quit bass and became a chef??

  • Jeff's been running his own school in Florida for the last 10+ years.

  • Bill is a fucking Genius, the drum solo is priceless

Jeff Beriln is a a bass god

thanks for posting but next time put Jeff in the title, he deserves it ...

  • You forgot to wright to the title that jeff berlin is playing bass hes as well import as kazumi and bill!!!!!!

  • I haven't heard spice of life CD (very hard to get in my country), so i wanted to ask: How much of Watanabes solo is improvised? Considering his Jazz background, the whole thing is improvised. Ultimate technique.

  • @Zeld1122 are you from ?

  • best part @ 10:00, Watanabe Kazumi lift hand, sign the victory, Yeahhh !!!

  • Wish I could've seen this trio live. Spice was one of the greatest almost completely unknown albums ever recorded.

  • doesn't really work without the synths, bro

  • The Bassist is Al Greco, right?

  • Jeff Berlin.

  • Bruford great as ever - ive seen him live 3 times.

  • sh** tooo cool

  • i can't remember the guy i was talking to about Bill Bruford you said that he was THE man.... i agree but you have to slip Keith Moon in.i know they had total different i've seen THE WHO 1969,1970and 1974 Moon blew me away i like music mid 50's till now maybe we like the same music keep in touch

  • incrediblile!

  • Amazing musicians are amazing no matter what time period and no matter what style or instrument. I do find it fascinating that the drumset was born out of vaudeville as a cheap way to have a percussion section and what look what came of it! This is a fantastic bit of video, thanks for posting.

  • Yes, the main reason I posted this was because of Bill Bruford and his drum solo. Kazumi is an excellent guitarist as well. I recorded this off of tv many years ago, I think it came off of Bravo, not sure, it has been so long ago. I have the entire concert on VHS and I now see it was re-released many years later on DVD.

  • hi

U got the Spice of Life on VHS? Is there any chance you can copy it for me on VHS? I'm old school like that and I lost my copy

  • INCREDIBLE DRUM SOLO

  • Wow this video is OLD.This was 1984 right?

  • "The Spice of Life", 1987 Polydor, Gramsvision Records. Jeff Berlin on bass, and Bruford on Drums. "Spice of Life Too" came out one year later...

  • It's from Kazumi Watanabe's "THE SPICE OF LIFE IN CONCERT" DVD released in 2004. I have it, it really is great.

  • This is excellent. Where did you get this footage?
