  • UNBELIEVABLY no one has mentioned that the building IS BEING MOTHBALLED... The building owner has sunk millions into cleaning out the interior, is cleaning the facade, and putting in new (custom ordered) windows.. plus a new roof is being installed.

No use for it yet... but being mothballed from the elements, and possibly being lit up at night, will go a long way to keep out the elements. Even the city is rebuilding the park in front of MCS.

New windows/roof/cleaning will go a long way!!

  • Fight for this beauty and seal it off for those who have bennefits for demolishing it

  • What the shit! Dont tear it down!

  • that is an amazing building....definitely don't build em' like that anymore....it would be a total shame if they tear it down.....turn it into condos, hotel, stores, a combo.....do something positive with it !

  • DONT TEAR IT DOWN!!! AND DONT RESTORE IT EITHER!! abandoned places are great pieces of art that can be used for movies, photography, music videos, etc. they are actually incredibly cool and they're not eyesores to me, personally. Why can't america have ruins like Italy or Greece? It gives the country character haha

  • Blow this disgrace up, along with the old packard plant. We could not save tiger stadium, how can the city save this disgrace. The city can't patrol the streets, it don't need any more "historic bullshit" It is time to move on. Detroit is a city on decline and these relics need to go.

  • @harp1925 You sir suck

  • @willssecret That's all u got. Come on down to the train station and get stomped, then see ho u like it! You suck!

  • @harp1925 Whine all you want i know for a fact that they are gonna use it as a trade facitity. And you can say that its coming down but i know they are not

  • @willssecret Yhat eyesore is privately owned by a billionare who also owns the ambassador bridge, anything done will be by him, and he has done nothing for the last ten years. Go move sown there and see how nice it is to see this dump everyday. A shelter for rats. The time for repair was 20 years ago, ow tear it down and build a wal mart, the city needs business! No whining here, I live in the D! Problem is people all want to preserve but don't want to shell out the bucks. Send money!

  • @harp1925 You obviously are not very educated or well-informed. Matty Moroun is trying to get businesses down there, that's why he and his son ARE refurbishing the station. It was on the front page of the Free Press a week ago, don't you read the papers? That's also why he wants to build a second bridge a little further downriver. He owns a lot of that land and he needs to start getting a return on his investment mainly in the form of new businesses i.e. positive cash flow. Get a clue!

  • @willssecret You obviously are not from the D, this type of meandering occurs over and over. Tiger Stadium, Book Cadillac, Packard, the train station, Hudsons....etc. Property sits and rots, doin no good. The time to maintain these eyesores is past. Time to tear em down. BTW, u are not very educated, learn the history of Detroit. Historical buildings need m oney, Detroit don't have any, tear em down and give the citizens stores so shopping can happen in the city. Read, u can learn!

  • @harp1925 Not from the D?! Smart street southwest side native. Grow some balls, cash in some of the cans and bottles you collected for bus fare and come visit some time! No the city doesn't have money, but private individuals and companies that believe in this city do. You're complaining about the Book Cadillac? That project pumped over $200 million into this city and continues to generate generous tax revenue.

  • Respond to this video...Not educated, eh? I'm a proud product of Chadsey High School. My bachelor's is in Sociology with a specialization in Urban Sociology. And you?!

  • @harp1925 Not educated, eh? I'm a proud product of Chadsey High School. My bachelor's is in Sociology with a specialization in Urban Sociology. And you?!

  • @willssecret Chadsey is my turf, I own da hood! Your punk ass couldn't handle munger, let alone chadsy. Give it up. Now STFU and GTFO! I'll be at telway, noon tomorrow!

  • @harp1925 Thats what she said

  • @harp1925 No, That ain't all I got! Come down to the train station and get stomped? I'm down there all the time, sucker! Ain't been stomped yet! I buy gas at the Mobil on Gratiot at 3:00 AM too. Nobody messes with me! You're really brave behind that computer, why don't you come hang on the east side if you're such a big man!? 'Cause you'd sh*t yourself, that's why!

  • @willssecret Dettoit has bigger problems than a stupid outdated building. First, why have 9 city council members, when the population does not warrant this. 9 members was fine when there were nearly 2 million people, now with 750,000, the council should be cut to five at least. Police response is a joke. Schools are a joke. This has been the case fo 40 years. Real problems that need to be addressed. Not old delapidated buildings who's owner gets massive tax breaks. GTFO!

  • @harp1925 You GTFO! you wine all you want that there gonna tear it down. There not loser. Just face the facts

  • @willssecret I posted facts that need to be addressed, you want to save a piece of stripped out garbage. The time to save it was years ago. Maybe u need to come to the D and see what your talkin about. That buildin is disgusting, and the park on Michigan avenue is a homeless haven, very attractive. You don't know what your talkin about. When u live in the D, then u might understand, now GTFO and STFU! Southwest gasngstas, bitch!

  • @harp1925 Well guess what! Lets admit it There restoring it either way. So wine little B***h and STFU And stay off of youtube and find something better to do than acting tough over youtube. So What you think is a piece of garbage is a historic and wonderful place to me. So f**k off. Sincerly, citzen of 8 and gratiot

  • @willssecret Quit tryin to act tough, look who's talking a clueless idiot. Just STFU, till you know WTF you be talkin bout. Fuckin u tube wimp' 8 and gratiot ain't shit bitch. The only fixing is for show, this rat infested gutted disgrace woud cost millions to restore, think the D has money to burn. People like u make me laugh! Now STFU!

  • @harp1925 Well guess what! its not the city that is restoring the depot now. So you think a billionare cant fix that place up? HUH? maybe you STFU and get over it already And find something better do to like rob a bank or something?

All i know is that you need to STFU and GTFO

  • @willssecret Well, guess what? The city maintains the surrounding area, and the repairs are only cosmetic. Now u STFU AND GTFO! Clown.

  • @harp1925 Well at least there gonna use it as a trade processing area. Now why dont you stop wasting your time and my time.

    YOU STFU GTFO!

your wasting my time and your own time dumbass

  • @harp1925 Well guess what? GTFO and go F**k yourself

  • The Central Station is NOT an eyesore! It's a monolith, a symbol of Detroit gone by. It should be left the way it is, behind a barbed wire fence.

It should have been secured the day it was abandoned, those many decades ago.

The Detroit govt. left it to gangs and thieves for years before a half-hearted attempt to erect a barrier.

What needs to be torn down is the Detroit govt., that corrupt entity which rapes its citizens and cries racism when people try to help.

  • Do not demolish this building. That doesn't help improve our image, infact this building still draws people here!

  • I prayed that this building be demolished and i know that God will honor my prayer. Sorry preservationist, its coming down

  • @breezwonder There restoring it you know

  • @willssecret No, their just putting in some windows in. I know people want to see it restored as would i, like the Police HQ a few years back but to let it stand there in decay is absurd

  • @breezwonder Look it up There putting in New windows, New roof and cleaning up debris

  • Anyone have any idea, or suggestions how to GET INSIDE as of yesterday??

  • The city of of Detroit is stupid. They should have spent about half a million dollars in 1988 to better secure a peice of their history. Then this beautiful building would not be in the shape it is in now. All it would have took is one or two security guards to keep this place up and it would still be in working shape now. They could even make money from donations and historic tours.

  • @jerywilliams exactly! I read this after my own post...they could have erected a barrier for about $300k. But knowing the Detroit Govt., that $300k barrier would have actually cost about $3 million after each council member, the mayor, and their relatives each took their cut.

  • It a shame the city is not taking advantage of detroit architecture. A real beauty that can only be appreciated though a lens.

  • fuck the gov. theyre responsible for building condos, stores & companies across the street from the low income housing. then the landlords hiked up the rent & made it harder to pay rent , then the poorer left & the richer moved in to be closer to there workplaces. i rather live cheap then end up homeless. grass & sunflowers in the cement is better then parking meters

  • Beautiful old building, should be saved....Why not refurb it to be apartments in the office tower? such would preserve the bulding and allow it to pay for itself, probably be cheaper than tearing it down and building a new eyesore that wouldn't last as long or be as classy, plus its on the historic register, shouldn't be that easy to tear it down, due to the rules of the register?

  • /first off..how can the city tear it down?

the city of Detroit does not even own the building!

It was told on the news that a suburban billionare owns the property

  • Yes, the MCS is owned by, Manuel "Matty" Moroun, also the owner of the Ambassador Bridge. However, the MCS has been vacant so long that it would not be hard for the property to change hands before demolition. All of this was also going down last April and has since been put on hold. As far as I know, a final decision has still not been made.

  • @yeahlizzie

refurbish it and it will be a beautiful crown Jewell of Detroit!

get rid of the trains and put in maglev system!

why would you tear it down any ways!

the white house was rebuilt may times,at one time the foundation was bad so they had to strip it down and do it all over with new materials to last!

dont tear it down or it will become a worse blotch in detroit...a vacant weed covered lot!

  • @yeahlizzie Good point!

  • Detroit is home to many historical buildings. History should be salvaged, not erased. They should be used in the dedication of creative projects, charity, and knowledge. The one thing that attracts people to Detroit now is concert theatres, why not open up these buildings for even more, as well as other functional uses to society?

  • @agalaxy1

id say refurbish this station, and build a maglev system to replace the detroit public train transit system!

look at LA,LA had a sub way system but oil,and auto corps tore it down and gave LA nice buses at the time for replacement......

Imagine what La would look like today if it was still implaced

  • These buildings aren't eyesores, they are amongst the most well architected buildings in the world, that is why film makers come to create films in places as such. It is possible with the hands of many to rennovate a building and use it for the sake of humanity's progression. There must be something that can be done in the act of protest and intelligent planning. I don't even live there and I want to do something to help.

  • I agree leave it standing. But got damn it do something with it this building shouldn't be left vacant if nothing is done then tear it down. If nothing else sell it to someone who could either tear it down or use it.

It has stood 20 years vacant it will probably stand another 30 years vacant.

  • @coolgc1

tear it down and turn it into an even more parking lot!

  • @captinseperoth Honestly, I don't care what they do with the building I don't live in Detroit.

  • Great video. Too bad that newsman doesn't get it. We have to remember the good things and have them to build on. Not tear every bit of history down and leave ruble for future generations. This building is awesome!

  • I feel the MCS can just be left as is and respected as such... Just like ruins out in Greece... The Detroit City council needs to focus their energy out of shame and into actually bettering the community.... Detroit schools, fixing roads, creating parks & gardens, etc.... Tearing down this one building will not make people feel better about seeing the thousands of burnt out homes... It won't help the "image" of Detroit one bit... It's just a huge waste of money... My 2 cents...

  • @8bliss

yes,and replace it with a empty vacant lot,a boxy building,or a park that no one will hardly use do to many reasons!

people are tearing down the old and not realizing what they have lost!

did you know la had a really good subway system in the 40s and 50s....and look at it now! all torn up and hidden away because of the automobile corporations wanting a bus system instead!

Now look at pea soup smog town LA!

rather tearing it down, referbish it and replace train system with maglev!

  • The biggest crime as far as I see it, is the Detroit City Council even considering spending nearly 4 million dollars in stimulus funds to demolish a building that actually draws people to Detroit... It's insane... I've met photographers from as far as Germany & Toronto who've come to Detroit just to see it...

  • Yeah, I don't want to see this building go. I do know that is needs a ton of work to even get remodeled. If they don't have the money to remodel it at least let it stand as long as it can.

  • Yo, if we can send a space probe to Neptune to get the composition of its atmosphere, why cant we save this stunning building?

  • They should save the building. I will probably cry if they do away with it.
