I keep raving about Dwayne Croft, but I can't help it -- he's one of my favorites. I remember listening to the radio broadcast of this, when the Count entered and sang his first line (you can hear it in this clip), Mr. Croft's voice had such presence. I still remember how it sounded on the radio well over ten years ago.
I love Cherubino's portrayal, typical page who's love for women is in the right place. His hands, however, sometimes stray at the wrong ones hehehehe!!!
This is how opera should be - well-acted, great chemistry, fluid choreography, stunning costumes (apart from the Count's mullet and baby-olied physique that gives him a vague resemblance to Fabio). Who is Cherubino in this? She's fantastic?
That's 300 years of tradition passed down to the present opera lovers. I can only imagine how much pressure the singers has to go through to live up to the singers of olde!!
Cherubino was performed exceptionally well! Bravo!
Im going to see this opera live for the first time in april this year (2010) My only opera experience is Die Zauberflöte and that is more of an operett (Singspiel) Im trilled to listen to it!
For the record, this very same production (by Jonathan Miller) was first unveiled in Vienna's Theater an der Wien in May of 1991 with this splendid cast. It was released on video by SONY and is now long overdue for rerelease on DVD.

The chemistry between these two is amazing. They show the barbed, needle-y politeness so well. What beautiful performances!
