Wow my routine is almost identical apart from using the brush and keep the conditioner on for longer. My hair texture is the same as yours and from the moment I started using the method it made my life so much easier and my hair was so much happier. x
So I'm not the only one who has to wash their hair in sections? YES!!! lol I am going to do what you did next time I wash my hair, I'm just so darn lazy that I use bigger sections...Then my arm feels like it's going to fall off after a while...If you ever see this, what type of conditioner do you use, and how do you feel about mayonnaise/egg remedies?
Im on a journey in becoming natural. I haven't done a good job in these past years with taking care of my hair so now im starting fresh. Right now i have kinky twist in and i will be doing more hair protective strategies to gain length until i cut all my permed hair. What hair products do you suggest i use ?
you need to put up some more videos helping women with their hair:) you really have the technique down! how do you detangle, wash, condition, etc so quickly?
Thanks for this vid! My hair is only apl, but I have a lot of it; *high* density. I started detangling w/ my fingers and twisting on my wash days and it is sooo much easier with no breakage. I hope to reach your length in the near future :)
Yes, I do comb through it after taking out weaves, as long as there isn't any matting or excess tangles. When I have tangles I prefer to use my fingers.
I do exactly the same! detangling before, during n after wheew! love ur hair! I'm afraid of my denman while it does a bangin' job on my daughters hair. I might try using it next time. bless! :o)
Thank you so much for this vid, I have tangle prone hair that is really giving me the blues right now. This just showed me how to be more gentle on my hair.
I really needed to see how you actually handled your hair and washing it while still twisted. It helps me to see some of the mistakes I've been making with my four daughters. THey are still young so there is time to get it right and give them a lifetime of beautiful hair and healthy hair habits to enjoy. Look at the legacy you have contributed to Gal! Love it!
everybody so caught in hair type...personally i dont see the point of identifying hair textures imean even in the natural world we are still being put in categories from the straightest to the the kinkest...who cares what the hair type is just as long you know what works for your hair it really shouldnt matter what catorgory your hair falls in
@1andonlybabyt go to her fotki reniece20 and you'll see she is nowhere near any type 3. Keep in mind that wet hair looks different than when it's dry. In her fotki most of her pics look like 4c, not even 4a....
Look at the photos of her hair journey. Halfway through the video you can clearly tell that she has type 4 hair. The longer hair gets the more the curls become looser.
It's pretty cool and relaxing watching women with long natural hair texure washing and twisting their hair...I guess because I do it whenever the mood hits me.
O. M. G. That is alot of work just to wash your hair!! More power to anyone who has the patience to keep up natural hair. I think i might be too lazy for all this, and im only working with about three inches as of now!! Its beautiful!! I just didnt know so much was involved in PROPERLY caring for natural hair. I kinda thought it would be easier. We shall see how i hold up.
I love the way u're so careful about tangles. Although, i am relaxed, i think i'm going to try these techniques to avoid tangles and knots as well. I'm now 5 months post and i'm trying to decide if i should relax, texlax, or go natural. I'm afraid because my natural texture is sooo course lol. Whatever I decide, I am DETERMINED to have thicker hair.
finally I have a hair twin!, my hair is like yours but way way shorter lol! I am so happy to see my potential i am going to work harder on my hair now!:)
From the comments on this video and others, it has become apparent that we can not classify our curl patterns on a chart because there seems to be no blanket formula and there are so many more hair types than the 5 or 6 categories in the chart..
@TheMsAbiola Exactly. I don't know why many of us, and natural hair stylists, blindly follow Andre Walker's hair-typing system. It has so many flaws that I don't know how it caught on :-/
This is someone who told Halle Berry that to make her natural hair manageable she should cut it. I'm not making this up.
A more sensible system will be describing our hair as L, O , I , or S-shaped strands with high, normal or low porosity, like in the LOIS system does.
I also think you may benefit more from using Castile soap or something milder to wash your hair in because I think ur hair has waaay too much shed for the amount of care you are taking of it, especially with your preventative styling and such.
(Even if this video was made during the winter months)
Really good video, please try the Take Down Remover next time, it will save you so much time when detangling hair. It really softens natural hair too.
This video was so helpful.. Now I know my hair type. It didn't matter to me, but it's good to know. My hair is very similar to that when dry. Amazing. :)
That is 4a hair. When it is well taken care of and has been in a style for a while. the curl pattern looks extended and not as tight. My hair does the same thing. If I keep it in check it LOOKS like 3c, when I don't it looks like 4c. It's all in the care.
@bonnaceo how do you "keep it in check?" Idk If my hair is just 4c or what but it is hard hard hard. The way I describe my hair to people; "when you touch my hair and roll it between your fingers, it sounds like (maybe even feels like) you're poking at logs in a fire"
Yeah, but your hair looking 4c isn't an indicator that it isn't well taken care of. It's just that some people can hold curls better than other. Hair wll cared for can looking very curly/straight/bushy.
Your hair shouldnt have so many tangles... I think you need a better leave in product and conditioner, I usually leave my hair up for like 2 weeks and never have that kind of shedding and my hair is of a more extreme and tighter curl pattern. That is just waaaay too much shedding. I dont understand why there is so much.
Dont get me wrong, your hair is beautiful. It's just that I dont understand why it's shedding so much like that.
@keelstor25 : not everyone has the same amount of shed hair. Everyone is different, Maybe her eating habits affects how much shed hair she has. This was filmed in Oct. maybe in the colder months she sheds more. You have no clue. It's crazy how much people try to compare. You just cant, especially something as trivial as shed hair. LOL.
@kinkiesweet If it's really that "trivial" as you say then why are you even bothering to respond to my comment. I honestly think you are taking more offense than the person who created the video. And her hair is shedding a TREMENDOUS amount for only 2 weeks of not combing it. And hair shed CAN be compared from person to person that's why there's such thing as Average hair shed.
@keelstor25 You cannot make that conclusion from looking at this video. You do not know her hair. That is not tremendous shedding for just two weeks. And you do not know her personal normal shed rate. She has beautiful hair and when she lifts it up she had hardly no breakage. I didn't see any breakage.
@mspinkytee Nobody said her hair was ugly. I said her hair is shedding too much, especially if it is supposed to be healthy hair. AGAIN, i believe she should change her shampoo and conditioner because when and if somebody's hair is not manipulated but still shedding like that, there is something wrong! AGAIN, her hair is shedding too much for so much low manipulation in a 2 week period IN MY OPINION!
MOREOVER, she needs a good deep conditioning and trim cause her hair looks dry
@keelstor25 Hair sheds an average of 50-100 strands everyday naturally on its on..so those strands coming out are just 14 days of shedding..shedding has nothing to do with how often you comb/manipulate your hair..that's its natural process and many people shed more or less than others..However, breakage would be an indication of unhealthy hair
@keelstor25 If your hair has not been detangled for quite some time, (i.e. weave, braids, etc.) then the shed hairs never get to fall daily (50-75 hairs/day). When you finally detangle it looks like a lot but it is just the accumulation of hair that shed and was not removed daily.
Everyone her hair is 4a because she dyed it black i know this because she this page and her own dotcom I go to it all most everyday she went back to her natural hair color
Anyone saying that her hair is 3C, take a look at her Brazillian Keratin Treatment video.
As soon as people see any type of curl - no matter how TINY in diameter - they think type 3 for some reason. Someone went as far to suggest that she's 3b? lol
3A - big curls
3B - medium curls
3C - small curls
4A = tiny curls/coils. You should not be surprised to see someone with 4a hair have a definite curl pattern. Type 4 hair has the most coils and curls of all.
@DuchessHoob yea I get what your saying :]] , but I hve curly hair and its easier to do than this lady's hair , so not all curly haired people hve hard to tame hair , but your hairs probley 10x easier :) haha
I hope no one takes this in a negative way...But this makes me glad I'm caucasian. I am so lazy, I would never have the patience and dedication you have! I haphazardly wash and condition my hair, brush it once and thats iiiit. Also, Im not sure how I got here, but i did enjoy the video.
@DuchessHoob You may not have meant it that way but the comment does come off as offensive because you're born with the hair on your head and whatever the texture you have to learn to work with it. There are Caucasian people with thick, curly hair that takes just as much dedication. There are positives and negatives about all hair types.
@DuchessHoob Don't take this the negative way, but I'm glad I am African American. I wouldn't have the patience to have to tan myself, plump my lips, and get butt lifts. It is so much easier.
@Ravenpriestess Sounds much different when I flip it around. Think before you type. No one should think more highly of one's self than they ought. (thinking people will get what I mean).
@DuchessHoob that's wonderful, every one should be proud of who they are. i'm glad that i have afro textured hair, it is so much more beautiful and versatile *to me* than straight hair.
It's nice to see someone with my own hair texture (whatever it is!). It looks full but is really fine and fragile and single strand knots are perpetual; does that sum it up? It's also hard to wear it down because the pattern is not spiral curls but rather an "S" shape. It's super-soft and shrinkage is ridiculous. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love my hair! It looks like you do too. Thanks for posting! =0)
@mzgemini0006 This is definitely not 3x hair. She is 4x for sure. I've been natural for > 3 years, and I can tell you 4x hair doesn't stretch like that with just water.
lol @MyChawniel IKR lmao but I really love this video because my hair type is 4a as well and it shows me how I wash AND detangle my hair what I really was looking for. Do you have any tips for beginners going natural and wat products you use for your hair that you would recommend if its not too personal to share?
OH I FEEL FOR YOU. :), I GUESS WE GET USED TO WHAT WE HAVE TO DO. AND THEY SAY WE DON'T TAKE CARE OF OUR HAIR!! HUH! YOU HAVE DEMONSTRATED WHAT IT TAKES EACH AND EVERYTIME YOU HAVE TO WASH YOUR HAIR. I'M PROUD. THANKS FOR THE VID. :). IT IS A LOT OF WORK.
I love your natural hair! It is similar to mine, but with a looser natural curl pattern.
Another big help for sisters with a little more kink, is to shampoo hair with small plaits. This allows one to clean the scalp/hair, while keeping the hair from getting tangled. Follow up with Nexxus Keraphix. Sit under a warm dryer with a plastic shower cap. Then rinse lightly. Follow up with your favorite hairdressing on every plait. Dry. Take loose when dry. You can straighten or flat iron if desired.
@hotdrumchick no when its dry there's more breakage because the hair shafts are closed. but when wetit is easier because your hair takes its natural state.
Are you a stylist??? I found you from kibibi's channel...

peepla7 5 months ago
@DuchessHoob yea I get what your saying :]] , but I hve curly hair and its easier to do than this lady's hair , so not all curly haired people hve hard to tame hair , but your hairs probley 10x easier :) haha

I hope no one takes this in a negative way...But this makes me glad I'm caucasian. I am so lazy, I would never have the patience and dedication you have! I haphazardly wash and condition my hair, brush it once and thats iiiit. Also, Im not sure how I got here, but i did enjoy the video.
DuchessHoob 5 months ago
@DuchessHoob You may not have meant it that way but the comment does come off as offensive because you're born with the hair on your head and whatever the texture you have to learn to work with it. There are Caucasian people with thick, curly hair that takes just as much dedication. There are positives and negatives about all hair types.
lashon009 5 months ago
@DuchessHoob Don't take this the negative way, but I'm glad I am African American. I wouldn't have the patience to have to tan myself, plump my lips, and get butt lifts. It is so much easier.

@Ravenpriestess Sounds much different when I flip it around. Think before you type. No one should think more highly of one's self than they ought. (thinking people will get what I mean).
Ravenpriestess 4 months ago
@DuchessHoob that's wonderful, every one should be proud of who they are. i'm glad that i have afro textured hair, it is so much more beautiful and versatile *to me* than straight hair.
SUDDENLYIAWOKE 2 months ago
It's nice to see someone with my own hair texture (whatever it is!). It looks full but is really fine and fragile and single strand knots are perpetual; does that sum it up? It's also hard to wear it down because the pattern is not spiral curls but rather an "S" shape. It's super-soft and shrinkage is ridiculous. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. I love my hair! It looks like you do too. Thanks for posting! =0)

godsflame2 5 months ago
naw i disagree her hair is about 3b 3c not at all 4a...very very beautiful length though
mzgemini0006 5 months ago
@mzgemini0006 This is definitely not 3x hair. She is 4x for sure. I've been natural for > 3 years, and I can tell you 4x hair doesn't stretch like that with just water.
cyoohoos 5 months ago
@cyoohoos Oh okay usually when I see 4a it looks different than this...
mzgemini0006 5 months ago
@mzgemini0006 da fuck? how is this 3b???? u r blind girl lol
xRapturex3 3 months ago

lol @MyChawniel IKR lmao but I really love this video because my hair type is 4a as well and it shows me how I wash AND detangle my hair what I really was looking for. Do you have any tips for beginners going natural and wat products you use for your hair that you would recommend if its not too personal to share?
JasmineMcknight1994 6 months ago
I like your video and it is nice to know that I am not the only person who spends close to an hour washing, detangling, and conditioning alone.

You can straighten or flat iron if desired.

how long have you been going natural?
PrettyCrappyUsername 7 months ago
Maybe I'm confused, but I thought you weren't supposed to comb the hair while it's wet. Doesn't it cause MORE breakage?
hotdrumchick 7 months ago
@hotdrumchick no when its dry there's more breakage because the hair shafts are closed. but when wetit is easier because your hair takes its natural state.
chokemarie12345 7 months ago
@chokemarie12345 Ah HA!, I got it! Thank you sis! I guess I'll have to start spritzing my hair down before I comb it now!
