  • Thanks man, I've heard people speak some form of Yoruba from Brazil and it is almost another language in and of itself.

  • I am so fucking pumped up for this world cup and thanks to fifa I rediscovered this song after 14 long years.

  • ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡good song '(°_°)'

  • I haven't heard this beautiful song for almost fifteen years!!!

Today Angelique performed at the Fifa 2010 Soccer World Cup Draft Ceremony!

What a joy! Now I am enjoying it again & again & again. THANK YOU 4 posting!

  • And i must say that i didn't know the existence of this lady (shame!) and ofcourse of this song. I spend the whole night (it's Germany here :)) searching in the web after i watched her in the ceremony and finally found the names of the artists in a Southafrican site :D. And since you're from Chile: The game Germany-Chile in 1974 was the first World Cup game i saw in my life as a little kid and believe it or not i still remember your keeper then(Vallejos) and the red card guy(Caszely)! Cheers

  • Thanks, I haven't heard it in years since it was on the first and best Absolute Music CD's!

  • Love this song...i remember hearing it when i was very young ty for the post :)

  • i remember watchin this song in Kenya on channel o great song

  • OH MY GOD! Been looking for this song and video for about 10 years, and now I've finally found it thanks to a friend who recognized me singing the chorus just randomly. It's just as amazing as I remember it from my childhood. Imagine that MTV played this kind of good music back in the day. Makes you sad to watch the aforementioned channel today with only shallow pop and rap. Hail to Angelique Kidjo and to the good old days! Peace!

  • yes back in the day the type of musci MTV used to play back in the day was very diverse.they have squizzed every single african artist out of their video line up.its only ubble gum hip hop and some stupid kiddy rock.

  • Really? MTV played this back in the day?? Oooh man!!! Wish I was a teen in the 90s cause I mjust love this song. Now MTV has gone terrible. SHAME ON YOU MTV for playin crappy ass music nowadays.

  • Can anyone pliz interpret this song for me.I love it but the video kinda looks evilish.

  • talking about a certain african god, who has power over everything, good and bad....

  • Love this song. Now if only I could find out what the words mean. Can somebody tell me?

  • FINALLY! I've been looking for this song for SO long (it's kind of hard googling this by its lyrics!;)! Most times I find music of the 90's to be quite amusing in a not so good way but this song is just timeless in my opinion. And I get in such a good mood and feel like dancing - and singing (although not knowing exactly what I'm singing!:) Thanks for posting! Good day, guys...

  • i love dis song. i can't understand her of course. I speak igbo, which is a tribe in nigeria. but benin is right next to nigeria. i think shes speaking something close to yoruba. :]

  • I am white american and searched for this song. I did not fully understand the meaning but I knew it was filled with a beautiful spirit.

  • Elle vient de mon pays. Le Benin. Le pays me manque

  • Breathtaking music and video. Unimaginable voice and tembr. This singer is an amazing treasure and I've heard a lot to compare with. Love it from Russia!!! :)

  • I remember when i was small kid in nigeria this was one of my favourite songs. it sounds completely different to me since i don't understand yoruba as well as i did

  • What does agolo mean?

  • i love the video and the song. i just wish it wasn't so grainy. i wish i knew what every thing meant, from the words to the masks and symbols...etc.

  • WHen I see this video I think "creation" and "circle of life"

  • This song reminds me of Niamey in the ninety's, got to say beautiful but awful video.

  • Are you from Niger??

  • That's correct, I'm from Niger and Angelique Kidjo is pretty famous there.

  • Really? i am from Niger too!! but i dont really remember Angelique Kidjo being famous there.. Maybe i was too young to remember!! lol anyway nice to meet you!

  • You're mistaking Angelique Kidjo for Miriam Makeba who passed away on November 10, 2008. Angelique Kidjo is alive and well (as of today).

  • O I didn't know that. Thanks for the update cause they were one in the same my mistake

  • I mean I thought they were one in the same

  • O kool.

  • I am a black american woman do not understand anything but I like the beat and the video...could you explain to me what she is saying? Anyone?

  • she was just simply described love as a shape of the earth, which is agolo is a rounded object

  • Though she is not from my country, she is singing in my mother's tongue. She is singing about a bride meeting her groom. And reminding them never to forget the first love that brought them together. She is an international singer. I think, she lives in Germany, where she is highly loved. She is from Benin Republic, West Africa. She speaks several languages.

  • the first time i saw this video i was like 6 or 7. there is something about her voice, just caught my attention. though i don't understand what she's saying i deeply love this song

  • great song, great video. I have 3 of her CD's, including the CD that has Agolo on it.

I saw her live once in Montreal, and I had the pleasure of meeting Angelique backstage. She is very short which suprised me, and extremely nice. She gave me a big huge hug when I mentioned that I was a fan and owned a few of her CD's.

I'm glad folks can view this video here. It's one of my favorites from the 90's.

  • I was just asking for the name of this song to somebody few min ago. I heard him playing it on his slide. Pretty coincident I found it here..... thank you.

I LOVE IT and I can't stop listening to it

  • QUÉ RECUERDOS CON ESA CANCIÓN...

  • Could people just watch the video and enjoy its art?!dammmnnnn!!!and they are not wearing thongs...God!!!!people should open up their minds a little bit more and enjoy what different people from all over the world have to offer, in terms of music and Art.

  • listen to my missy or who ever you are, you don't know if you have master's degree in history, but know that it doesn't give u any right to insult anybody and for you info, i do read jus because some one doesn't know about a song doesn't mean that they are ignorant. there are things that u don't know about and other people do know about, that doesn't mean that they will go around tellin u that you are ignorant. if u don't have a good answer to a question, shut the fuck up, and don't reply.

  • If you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's crap! Wake up people, we all have different tastes, and music like this shouldn't be degraded just because it doesn't rock your boat! For your information, this music video won a Grammy Awards back in the 90's! So there u go. Now, who's the pile of crap now?

  • is this some kind of ritual song. what up with the masks?

  • The mask theme in this video is from West African folklore. It's not a ritual song, the mask itself is a popular or somewhat an iconic figure from Benin dating back to 13th Century. Most of these bronze statues were seized by the British. Most of them can now be found in British Museums as we speak! This Artists is just doing her best ti resurrect these piece of stolen history! Turn off the TV and read people! Read more, and stimulate your mind. Ignorance is like a plague! it corrodes mentality

  • angelique is pretty.

  • This is a very great song, but someone please tell me in what languge she's singing it? and where is it from? is it from Benin, or MaliThx so much!

  • its from Benin....its great aint it?

  • its from benin but some of it is also from the nigeria - yoruba language

  • they have yoruba people in Benin Republic. The British and French drew the borders not us

  • Absolutely right! The Oyo Empire (Yoruba Land) stretched from now today 'Nigeria' to places like Benin, Togo, Ghana before the colonial invaders sliced them up!

  • She's from Benin Republic. The dialect she speaks is 'Yoruba'- a dialet from West African 'Yoruba People' in Nigeria.

  • WOW what a woman. What a song. This makes me so happy..and what fab rhythym they all have so naturally. Beautiful

  • i haven't heard this song since i was little and it's so wonderful. then and now.

  • my name is angelique but im mexican

  • you know what ignorance is a real sad thing!!!!!

  • why they gotta wear thongz???? and have white paint on ther bootyz??? highschool musicsl ROCKS!!!!

  • they wear that cuz thats what they wear get over it and enjoy the song good lord people always gotta make a big deal out of stuff

  • To hell with you ....where ever you emanated from.By the power of the gods of Africa, it shall never be well with you; until you appologise publicly and reverse you statement about AFRICANS. These are not mixed race they are purely Africans not Black American or Black british. Their gods will hunt you.

  • look my dear! calm down i was talking about the comment made calling them smelly africns. I am born and bred in Africa and very PROUD TO BE AFRICAN. that's an absolutely beatiful video which i grew up seeing while i was back home. But you know what if i really knew nothing about Africa the tone you have would not help in anyway. That's not how you create awaareness about our beautiful continent!!!!

  • they are not fat if you dont like it dont watch it and get one with your life let the rest of us who arent immature and can look past these things watch it

  • To hell with you ....where ever you emanated from.By the power of the gods of Africa, it shall never be well with you; until you appologise publicly and reverse you statement about AFRICANS. These are not mixed race they are purely Africans not Black American or Black british. Their gods will hunt you.

  • oh shut up.I love africa and the lion king and voodoo stuffs and african statues and african godz and movies in africa its a beautiful place with beautiful people i just think this vid is sorta nasty cause there rollz are shaking and they got grease on them its sorta wierd. thats MY OPINION YOU SHOULDNT CARE I say what I want to say and no one tells ME what to do.
