When the Russians put their minds to something, you better get out of their way! Everyone of those guys had more guts to go up on that roof than I have had in my 16 years of life. now that's bravery.
But the question is: This graphit enveloped the uranium! WHERE is the URIANIUM GONE?
Does it lies inside the reaktor? This theory is nonsence because: Why should the explosion spin out the graphit but the uranium stays inside?
It's a fact, the urianium and the graphit was ejected out of the reaktor during the explosion, and then the uranium melted and evaporated in the atmosphere!
That is what happen! And it very plausible that it already happen in the first night!
@butterz2butterz2 Those medals didn't come from Chernobyl but because of his rank. Besides that medal guy was in roof too and working in same area where was radioactive. He put life in risk allready just for working there.
@Clarice1933 They were already wearing plates and plates of lead. Their hands were wrapped thickly. I'd figure the spades were about all they could manage to carry and manipulate.
@ChaationBergin Ya. What a horrible thing this was. They were all great heros. So strange to me that I just got interested in the Chernobyl disaster and then a few days later the Japan crisis. I know the Japan thing is not going to get as bad as Chernobyl, but those men trying to fix it are probably going to give their lives for it just like these men did. Although I hope not.
It amazes me how robots built for space and their hardships of radiation and rays couldnt even handle the radiation at chernobyl. I guess nothing tests your outerspace equipment better than a man made disaster. This universe has got nothing on us. I bet one day we can make something that can kick the ass of a black hole.
OMG looked like the robot prefered committing suicide...they should have called the liquidators liquidees instead... I watched a doku in 96 which showed the last survivor of one of the fire crews. He was confined to a hospital bed...while the military dude gets back problems from all the medals hanging from his chest.
This is a tragedy of huge proportions! Praise all those men who gave their lives to protect the rest of the population.... One thing I do hate though is the translation of this vid. It MIGHT be 80% accurate. But it does make, scientists/nuclear response personnel, sound like they are 10 years old, from listening to the original Russian spoken dialogue, translated to English.
the bio-robot method seems futile; w/ just a man & a shovel, it would look like it will take forever to clean up the entire mess. at the same time, watching those men who keeps on going despite the hazardous mixture of air they breath worries me about their current & future conditions.
It seems Russians have generally cut a lot of corners, made things not as well as they should be, but when it comes down to it, they can recover the most impossible situation from the brink of total disaster. Just like in the great patriotic war.
The response in the West would not have been any better in fact it may have been a lot worse than what happend in chernobyl. We would have been lied to also just like ComEd did during the Three Mile Island fiasco. The response would have been slow and because of safety concerns and lack of equipment to deal with the situation. The end result would have have been far more damaging than what happend in Chernobyl.
@celticlofts America responding to a disaster on their home soil is laughable at best. Hurricane Katrina? The nightmare in New Orleans? US doesn't have a clue when it comes to acting swiftly in these situations at all.
When it comes to war, US is quick to get involved. Only problem is that they do it no matter how much money it costs (that they don't have) and don't ever stop being invovled.
@stevieRay3211 It wasn't politics foult. It was Anatoli Dyatlof, chief who made experiement and didn't even inform plant director about it. He bypassed every important safety system, including the emergency core-cooling system + every backup electrical system, down to and including diesel generators, that would have allowed them to operate the reactor controls in the event of an emergency. He used machine in way it wasn't designed to use without thinking consequences.
There was so much hush hush and secrecy surrounding alot of that that we may never really know EVERYTHING involved that led to the eventual meltdown of Reactor #4 at Chernobyl. I would personally love to get my hands on all of the information about it as would im sure quite a few other smart folks that know whats up if for nothing else than the sake of added knowledge on the subject, wouldnt ya'll?
poor Soviet reactor design, the whole thing was setup for failure from the word "go", this was the Soviet government of the 1980's we are talking about, for one thing, the cold war was still going on back then, and for another the world was a little different place then than it is now, especially in parts of Europe and Russia etc.
isnt 700 rems supposed to be a lethal dose???? OHH SHIT IT WAS 7000 rems ON THE ROOF AND THATS WHEN IT WAS AT ITS LOWEST!!!!!! this people got shitted out after they were commanded to to that that's a damnn shame...the country treats their people like Guinea pigs...and LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING! I wonder what happened to the person that gave the orders to carry out that nuclear test that started this whole tragedy....they shud have make him stand where he cause the tragedy.. a good execution for him
dont let these fucks fool you....they make it seem like they told the soldiers about the risk.........thats bullshit...these fuck sbelieved the c.o....he lied...there was somthing terrifying...but it couldnt be seen fucker
No wonder. The magma in the reactors remains was caused only by radioactivity,to be exactly,by reacting uran.I dont wanna know how high the radiation levels inside the reactor must have been, but that should be even more crazy.
There's so much junk of there, how do they know what of it is radioactive?
