Is it just me? I luv Steely Dan's music and always have. But when I see them on video, I just can't shake the feeling that both Fagan and Becker are arrogant pricks. . feedback appreciated. . .
@Rabidburt word in the business is that they are down to earth and not hard to work for, but in the same breath as professionals they know what they want. If you watch video of them working, or explaining the creation of their art you can see that they really know their stuff, and are students of music. In my humble opinion what you may be picking up on is 2 things: First despite what others may think, the music that they write is for themselves. The fans and everyone else come second.

I don't know that there is anything wrong with that, but it may come across as arrogance. The positive side of all of this: no matter if that is true or not, we still get good music, and that is what we were looking for anyway.
I met 'em both at a book signing some years ago. They were friendly, and came across as pretty cool and down to earth. They are tough to work with, and work for. Fagen is a notorious perfectionist.
I wonder what Donald was laughing about. I saw this tor and the one last summer. The best, best live band ever. Donal Fagen is an emperor penguin. I love these guys.
