Anyone in this industry knows someone or someone who knows someone that has lost someone in skiing. I feel sad for those of us who are without them. They are in a better place and we are blessed to have been with them. I feel for his friends and his family. My thoughts and prayers go with them but he died doing what he loved and what was most important to him and what made him happy and what most important of all gave him a sense of self. CR was built to be a risk taker. It's why he was a great, inspiring, important person. His inner need to overcome fear and push his limits is the reason that you and I have heard of him and are having this conversation. The concept of whether or not "risk is worth it" misses the point that being a skier was core to his own self-worth.

CR died in an accident. Thousands of people die in accidents every day.

no, i'm pretty sure it wasn't caught on film. they were practicing for a film and it was a total freak accident. They were all going off a jump and something happened and he didn't get out of the way in time and his friend crashed into him. His skis hit him right beneath his helmet. i was hanging out with him the week before at a ski competition. it was so crazy when i found out. i'm really glad he's doing so much better!
