do they use the american dollar? or is an australian dollar? i know i could google this but i'd rather have mean trolls on youtube giving me a hard time
come on guys, use a torque wrench not an impact driver to tighten the flywheel up! Streching those bolts could be expensive if they fail and the flywheel falls off....
@Blumphermann That’s what I’m saying. I’m not about to shred the threads on my crankshafts. Trained technicians my ass. Also. The clutch they pulled out didn't look worn to me. And if they are going to impress me and install a racing clutch it would have to be multi plate clutch. . .
@Blumphermann Have u ever tried using a torque wrench to tighten them? It is annoying coz you have to have someone on the other end of the crank with a power bar stopping it from turning. The factory flywheel bolts are close to grade 12.9 hardened steel bolts, probably stronger than the wheel studs (which also happen to use impact wrenchs). Regardless, look again, it looks like his impact wrench has a knob for the torque adjustment.

i was thinkin about buying an sti but i heard the clutch goes out really really fast is that ture, how many miles you get out of a clutch does anyone know??
if you launch everyday its gonna go quick... but if you know how to drive and don't beat the shiat out of it, it will last a long time... unless you start making more power then changing the clutch should happen anyways
Almost nothing on the car actually needs to be anywhere near the correct TQ spec, as long as its tight enough. I mean you dont want to be under by more than a couple ft/lbs, but being far over, almost never matters. Really the only things that need tq with a tq wrench are most of the internal engine or tranny bolts. Even then some of those it doesnt make a difference as long as its not too loose. And only an idiot would not be able to tell if its too loose.
You 100% can use an impact on the flywheel bolts. I have done probably a hundred maybe more (I have @20 years of wrenching experience, including several years as a dealership tech) and on pretty much every single one I used an impact.
The TQ wrench is needed if you are too dumb to not tighten the bolts ENOUGH, or are an idiot with your impact gun and tighten them to the point of snapping them. If you use your head the gun is FINE.
first of all theres no way techs at exedy didnt clean inside the bell housing and second of all that was an impact gun with a torque setting adjustment on the back. flywheel bolts are torqued up to 100ft lbs or more so it would take a lot of juice to warp the flywheel
you dont warp the bolts either you would stress them and they would stretch up until their tensile stress and then break. the rattle guns are used to get you close and then a torque wrench would have to be used. and a bolt thats supposed to be torqued to 100ft lbs wouldnt shear off if you went over the setting im sure those bolts are rated for well over 150 from the factory
stretch, warp ,whatever. im a grease monkey by trade, ratchet then torque wrench is the most appropriate way and the way required on all VAG vehicles.
so he put the new release/thrust bearing in before he cleaned the bellhousing out ? wow thats smart so when they clean the housing all the cleaner/solvent is going to get into the brand new bearing....woop de doo very very smart...
no no u are the moron i kno u use brake clean - idiot - im a mechanic - the point i was making is that it doesn't show him cleaning the inside of the bell housing so assuming he didnt....which is stupuid because how often are u going to get a chance to do it....- oh wait its a subaru so gearbox is bound to break....

Hi, I have a friend thats selling exedy stage 1 clutch but it doesnt have the bearing for it. Can i use my stock clutch bearing for it? for d16 civic

I once changed a subaru cluch by removing the engine, and it was actually quicker that way

@Sandeep9201 over 80k miles and thats driving it hard with auto x events ect you have nothing to worry about
myveryown07 1 year ago
Depends how you drive....Launching to hard? Ridng the fuck out of them? But in most cases the clutches do not need to be changed often

Lol u can do flywheel bolts up with rattle gun dick heads, u just need to know your rattle gun
071169 2 years ago
Yes you can but the torque wont be proper without using a torque wrench
GODZILLAMANASS 2 years ago 2
and you also need to know that a rattle gun is actually called an impact wrench...

what did you learn to drive on it or something?

@myveryown07
no, i didnt learn to drive on the factory clutch, got the sti when it had 38k miles from a 19yr old. Go figure
vexatuvex 1 year ago
lol dont even clean the inside of the bellhousing ? thats not good all the old dust will get on the thrust bearing and wear it out quicker...

looks like he also did the flywheel bolts up with a rattle gun!

you wouldnt warp the flywheel you would warp the bolts, and the torque setting on the back of the rattle guns arnt exactly accurate.
