  • this video totally made me learn sweeping :) thankyou so much

  • So you think sweep picking is too easy ?

well it's certanly not from where I'm sitting because I'm not using a pick and never do.

also in sweep you will need to know exactly where you are going before you ever get there.

so don't try to fraud me about sweep being easy ever again.

  • @azkeyz doing sweep picking with no pick is very difficult, porbably impossible. You need this most time (I think so) while playing metal solos and with no pick this would sound like crap.

  • Fender sucks , I play ibanez , butt I can tell you it's called Fender Performer a fogotten classic.

I love this teacher , he always shoots down my alleged ego and that's benificial to my persona.

The pattern was already in my voccabulary , but this sure helped me clarify things.

Thanks to this I can now get on to the advanced part of the lesson where the extra notes are added.

next comes 5 hours of improvisational thinking about the lesson.

  • sweep is to easy

    just practice girl

  • Funniest guitar teacher ever.

    GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURLs.

  • Love the vids!! Really learning alot. Thanks!

  • @zune153 Its a Parker, I believe MaxxFly

  • i guess that's a fender can someone tell me which series

  • Kris you are a boss at sweep picking

  • haha nice video and decent sense of humor

  • when someone says you suck at guitar just play a 5 string sweep..shuts them up heh

  • prick.

  • you sir deserved a subscribe

  • On Avatar the Last Airbender I heard Aang say "Bumi, youre a mad genius" well now I have to say "Kris youre a mad genius" :)

  • Thanks SO much for this video! I wish I'd seen it 20 years ago!! After many years of frustration from trying it with four fingers and never having any success, I can't believe how much simpler it is with three and why didn't I ever think of that myself...? After a few days of practicing I've seen exponential gains in my ability to pull off this technique.. : ) Whooohoooo!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if your tempted to cut through all the strings at the headstock >:D

  • a little system of a down in there?

could just be you remind me of serj! either way great, great video once again

  • Made me laugh :)

  • :17 for the win

  • ok.....................................

  • Awesome video. I love your tone and your approach. Practice can be sooooo boring - you keep it fun. Very educational for such a short video and damn good playin', too!

  • what guitar is that?

  • i say that your headstock is not going to break./....

  • Hey Kris,

I learned to sweep like you show on the video but I have a little problem. Starting with a couple of 5 strings major sweep ( like 15-14-12-13-12 ) with the ring finger, i want to switch to a 5 strings minor sweep ( 19-17-16-17-15 ). Here is my question : Should I start to "minor sweep" with the ring finger or with the pinky ?

    Thanks.

  • good

    god

  • boys fdhgasoudhibgiusgdiuavbsdijhasihbgd and girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrlssss

  • thanks sooo much ive been tryin to figure out sweep picking for tooooo damn long and i deserve a stupid slap cause its si simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this dude is on crack, but I'm learning so much, you rock kris!

  • hahaha, will impress girls.

i wish this guy was my guitar teacher.

  • You're probably on of the most crazy persons out here on youtube aren't you?But still a great teacher and guitarist tho :P

  • dude your awesome. your facial expressions made me chuckle.

the sad part is i can only sweep over 2 proficiently. still working on 3 strings.

  • He plays this major shape well but for those who want to learn it I would personally recommend using all four fingers starting (ascending) from the 4th or 'pinky' finger, it allows for less finger shifting, you will get a more fluent sound and be able to play faster and cleaner with a 1 hand rotation as opposed to shifting the 1st finger down to the E string again

  • what guitar type is that?

  • the bill nye of guitar hahahaha

  • this is very helpful, i'm practicin this kind of patterns with my metronome starting on 30 bpm, so i can gain better accuracy.

thanks for your vids Mr. Kristopher :D!

  • giiiiiirrllzzz :D

  • been practicing this for 6 months and still can only get it to about half speed what am i doing wrong???

  • so, how many girls you impressed with this lick?

  • What kind of tuning is this. Half step down?

  • I've been able to sweep decently for some time however when i play fast, i tend to hammer on and pull of the last note on the high e string, and then go back down the arpeggio. I see that many guitarists tend to pick it, which technique is correct?? Great lesson btw!

  • yea i learned this!!

  • I owe you my life...I learned sweeping because of you, man!!!

  • Sounds like somebody's a Steve Vai fan! 2:38

  • 2:45 this will rape girls

  • you remind me of djokovic

  • 20 who disliked this video like men

  • dude please help i really want to learn this technique but the problem is that i dont really think im playing it ok mm I will try to make a video response and i hope you see this comment and tell me where im wrong

  • lol i vote most bad ass lesson ever

  • this fitst sweep lick is i key of c major right?

  • hey can you teach us how to make that open string then hammer then bend then vibrato at the end which makes that WAAAAHH?

  • @magma3000 hey the way he does that is by hitting some open strings and then bringing the bar down and when bringing it back up hes hitting a artificial harmonic and bouncing the bar a little for the vibarato and i beleve he is using the harmonic at the 3rd fret of the G string and if you want it to sound exactly like his get into the same tuning of Eb

    ^_^

  • this guy is hillarious! he really makes you learn and makes you laugh

  • i think this guy likes men

  • Weird, I already knew this Arpeggio before I saw this video XD

  • kristoffer dahl teaches musicians how to impress bitches not how to be good musicians.

  • o_O

  • lolz anything will impress girls : P

  • funny, searching for a demetori song brought me here

  • spase! but cant help but to love it!

  • are you high? lol

  • your wierd dude,...

  • Why are you such a hyper active git it makes it imposible to learn.

  • you my friend are a really funny teacher

  • it's true.... i'm a girl and i was impressed by the sweet monster picking run.

  • dam you look like Jack from lost

  • Great job. Good lesson and really easy to watch and learn from because it is entertaining and useful.

  • drugs are bad..

  • Man- i've been through LOADS of guitar lessons in the past and of all of the teachers- you man- are the friggin BEST. Nice lesson man- funny and captivating

  • vad använder du för inspelnings grejs ? låter nice

  • So I've been trying (for the past 2 years) to learn sweep picking. I swear, It's the one thing that's been keeping me from progressing with guitar, yes it bothered me that much. The notes used in this instructional video are the ones I've been practicing sweeping with. Kristofer Dahl uses 3 fingers, but I've been trying to learn it with 4 with crap worth progress... So I decided to give it a try with 3 fingers and man does it make a difference. Thanks for the video!

  • @RaySesshomaru Awesome to hear - thanks for reporting progress!

  • @RaySesshomaru yeah - I've tried and tried (and tried) and could never get the four fingers to pull off this particular style of sweeping. How much unbelievably simpler it is with three!

  • @RaySesshomaru I find that 3 fingers is fine for the major arpeggios but the minor argeggios it's not so easy so i prefer using 4 fingers :)

  • actually i can do such sweeps, but i still don't have a girlfriend. what's wrong with me? =/

  • @UnknArt1st You're not playing them fast enough

  • @KristoferDahl you tapped the arpeggio out at 1:45, whenever i tap out anything on my guitar it plays the note, but then plays the same note like 5 octaves up and makes tonns of string noise when my finger leaves the string, what's wrong with my guitar?

  • @RedBAkid you prolly gotta raise your acton or straighten your neck if you have a bolted on neck

  • @UnknArt1st You may be forgetting 1 key element of impressing girls with sweeps. It is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE to make a cool face while sweeping. Sweeping whilst making a weird guitar face will only get them to laugh at you!

  • @UnknArt1st I had the same problem, but I found a wonderful remedy for this rather depressing issue. It's called stalking... pick your subject, make silent phone calls in the middle of night, collect her underwear from the washing line, send her obscene photographs - you get the idea, just be creative. Admitedly, I earned a restraining order for my trouble, but the rewards are worth it. Above all... have fun! If only she'd appreciate the attention. Honestly, women huh? Moan, moan bloody moan!

  • @UnknArt1st im a girl. i can sweep pick too. im good looking. IM SINGLE TOO. lol

  • hey kris, nice lesson ;)

i love sweeping and practice every day this lick to improve my skills, but i also agree with jaeswift87 and i really would like to see some special sweeping patterns

i think there are a lot of people who would thanking you, if you would do a special speeplick lesson :-)

p.s. sorry for my bad english, i am from germany ^^

  • thx man, awesome lesson

  • Are you by any chance going to do a lesson with a different sweeping patterns? This one is used in every lesson I've found thus far and it's becoming a bit too easy ;<_<

  • you never cease to amaze me with info and humor all in one giant brick wall of a video hitting you in the face

  • such emotion

  • Kristofer, I want that Fly! Should've got one years ago. Nice licks lesson, BTW!! Keep 'em coming, dude!!!

  • Kris that's a killer sound you go going on, are you using any pedals or are you using on board amp effects?

  • when will you have a 6 string sweeps lessons master dahl?

  • You're a very talented and entertaining guy!

  • Cool technique. Never thought about sliding the arpeggio. This helped allot!

  • Kris u rock

  • Your an awesome guitar player!!! Thanks for sharing this great technique!!!

  • Thank you dude :)

  • This guy is awesome, entertaining and funny. Not to mention the talent

  • hey kris, i'm gonna follow this lesson in a while as i'm trying to learn to sweep, i've never sweeped before, so this will help a lot :) also, what setup did you use for your guitar tone? did you use pedals or just an amp etc etc?

  • @Poowetisnub Great to hear - be sure to check out the description text below the video as well! I used an Ibanez tube screamer > Line 6 M13 > Mark V amp > to computer.

  • You're kinda creeping me out when you speak about girls in that way...

  • @MrCVTV Don't be afraid of girls - they're awesome once you get past the initial shyness ;) (some still prefer guys though)

  • @KristoferDahl Haha :D Just ment that you seemed to like girls, in a way some people might concider... absurd? :)

  • this is basically an instructional video on how to get endless pussy

  • Kristofer Dahl is one cool motherfucker!!!!

  • This guy is either stoned/high or very very energetic in the videos.

  • 4 people are all thumbs...

  • how to mute the sting?.

it was so messy everytime i try to sweeps..

  • @MrLemonade88 I explain in my other sweep picking video here at youtube. Basically you mute with the right hand palm and the lower parts of the fretting hand fingers

  • Excellent lesson as always, Kris!

    ...GIIIRRRLSS

  • ...GIRRRLLLLSLSSS

  • 'will impress girls' lmao

  • Excellent video this might be just what I need to finally nail sweep picking. People like you that spend their free time so others can learn really make difference in the world keep it up.

  • Tthat Head Stock is AWESOME

  • inspiring lesson, even without you saying it will impress girls. high five!

  • Wow, your guitar sounds better and beefier than ever, what did you change on your setup to make it sound so good? :P

  • @VocalDomain Thanks! The big difference was that I recorded my guitar signal directly to the computer and then later synced the audio with the video - it gives a much better sound obviously that using the microphone of the camera.

  • if you went 12 15 12 on the last Eb string it would sound better.

  • Does that Parker have a Piezo on it, and do you like it? I've been looking at getting a new ax and considering getting a parker.

  • @HurricaneTBag I actually don't use the piezo but I love to listen to others who do - I just havent got to it yet!

  • nice parker do you recommend it?

  • @omybookbag2685 Yes they are the most playable guitars I have ever tried

  • whats the fingering for this

  • I FREAKIN LOVE ur stuff, Kristofer. Keep it up!

  • You are awesome

  • I remember watching your lessons when I started playing guitar more than 2 years ago .. You really helped me out ,and you still do .. thanks dude :)

  • too many video fx!

  • Do you drink coffee and eat cocaine all day? How can one person be so forking energetic? Love your videos!

  • Ok Don't let this go to your head :-) ,But great little lesson. Your fun to watch and your a great player .Thanks for the vid

  • lol, somebody is drop D! Good video.

  • I pissed myself laughing at the end of this, but once again a very informative video keep them coming!

  • I just want to say thanks Kris, I saw your lessons on UG way back in 2007. They're what got me into shred guitar and really inspired me to take my playing further, I wouldn't be where I am now without you!

  • so good

  • This dude is the sloppiest, non riff having individual in the history of mankind.

  • I have problem sweeping up on the highest frets (19-22).... Do I impress women if I play this lower on the fretboard?

  • @Pur3P0wn4g3 Depends on the size of your frets

  • @KristoferDahl i thougth its called penis and not fret :/ :D

  • @Crashkiller62 What matters is how you use it

  • @KristoferDahl yea thats what she said...

  • @Pur3P0wn4g3 Guess not. Sweep picking is not like some smoke bombs.

  • @Pur3P0wn4g3 Guess not. Sweep picking is not like some smoke bombs.

  • @Pur3P0wn4g3 wow .. really so you play guitar to try and impress wome, not for the feeling or passion, GET THE FUCK OUT!

  • @IwarnU1617 Too retarded to have a sense of humor.

  • @NoaOno hmm well no, actually i know people like you, stupidasses who just do something to either impress someone else, or just to look cool. ur part of the millions that do so.

    bye

  • @IwarnU1617 Nope what he said, was, I don't know, but I took it as a joke, and you should too instead of getting mad and after that blaming me for something :)

  • @NoaOno "Do I impress women if I play this lower on the fretboard?"' thats what he said in his comment, how is that possibly a joke? a 1st grader wouldnt find that funny..

  • @IwarnU1617 Enough said I alredy know you can't take jokes.

  • @IwarnU1617 Go home cry, emoboy. Kris' videos is all about impressing women! :-)

  • @Pur3P0wn4g3 'go home cry, emoboy." interesting, it makes me laugh that you idiots try so hard to impress women and at the end of the night go home wondering why you didnt get SHIT! is because you have comebacks like that. and ur looking up fucking youtube videos on how to impress women, yea im emo lol

  • @IwarnU1617 - wow, comments like yours make you come across as a jealous penis eater...

  • hey kris, lil question, the shape you just taught us, thats the shape to create major arpeggios right? could you maybe giv a lesson for the minor or even better minor 7th arpeggios?

  • @yvanbister The exact same technique applies to minor arpeggios! Doing a m7 arpeggio lesson is a great idea!

  • @yvanbister i know the technique is essentially the same, but im having a hard time with the little finger roll in minor shapes when you sweep over the same fret, you know what i mean? or maybe you know a shape that doesnt require that

  • @yvanbister Search all your major 3rd's and go down a semitone, they are on 4th and 1st string. On the exact example on 1:51 put 13 instead 14 on 4th string and and 11 in the place of that 12 on 1st string. Apologize for my english

  • Always a pleasure!

  • Its good to see you again

  • you do good lessons. Very cool.

  • be sure to check out Jason Becker, Jeff Loomis and Tosin Abasi, all of them are absolute beasts when it come to sweeping!

  • @Sickhead30000 You just named 3 of my favorite guitarist :D

  • @Sickhead30000 You forgot Syu. Syu's sweeps don't sound like they're going up and down a scale.

  • I think your fingering is a little bit weird. Don't you think it is much easier to yous your pinky on the lowest string? For example on the first pattern. You use your pinky for the 15 fret, your ring for the 14, your index for the 12, your middle for the 13 and your index again for the 12?

I think this way it would be way easier^^

  • @BSPdelta09 Yes but I get better tone with the ring finger because I can hit the string harder with it!
