  • I got dizzy watching you going up

  • Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. JAMES 5:13

  • @Solodayo Religious freak

  • I was getting vertigo just WATCHING.

Good on ya for being able to do that.

  • finally a video yhat shows jow we get down. nice brother

  • The UHF antenna is in FAR better shape than the gin pole that clearly exhibits massive rusting and faded paint.

As a crane operator I would refuse the load.

In fact, Tex Kennedy, of Kennedy and Assoc. in San Antonio was upset that I refused a load with his gin pole.

We ended up using the stinger from another machine.

And, hams?! some are flat out dangerous!

  • That UHF antenna was in far better shape than the tower.

  • UMMMMM HEEEELLLLLLL NOOOOOO

  • FAKE

  • @KASPLARFO How is this fake? How do you think TV and radio antennas get to the top of towers. SOmebody has to put them up there and bolt them down.. Im one of the lucky ones.

  • @stacker4501

  • @stacker4501 yo by responding to the trolls, the trolls win... just so you know

  • @KASPLARFO You dumbass how is this fake?

  • @dezzick398

If you look closely, ... you can see that the supposed "Antenna" is made out of styro-foam.

  • @KASPLARFO -______- How the fuck is this fake moron? Simple contruction basically if you cant see that well thats your problem

  • What do you wanna do when you grow up johnnie??

I WANNA BE A RADIO ANTENNAE REPAIR MAN!!!!

  • Very high pucker factor.

  • i just lost my soul...

    you guys have balls!

  • What do you tell yourself in your head to make this possible? What is the mentality that you use?

  • I envy your fearlesness.

  • This brings back memories. I rigged in the early 90's in Maryland/DC. Am an Arborist now. People tell me, when I am 60'-70' in a tree, that I am amazing and I tell them that it is nothing compared with the tower guys, of which I am no longer. You guys are the boss. Hats off to you...

  • i would shit my pants over there :D

  • @sniperRobert As long as I'm above you its cool!

  • Hi dad it's brita. Sweet!! That's a coolio video(: 3-7-11(:

  • AHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • BASE JUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I shat my pants just watchin this.. props to u amigo!

  • I would pass out up there, then ultimately fall off it lol

  • @crewe4eva man you ain;t the only one shoot i'm right beside you or above you or below you lol

  • Looks scary up there.

  • What do they do with towers after they are dismantled? Thing is I found an old radio tower laying in sections next to a standing radio tower in my town. I was excited. Only problem (maybe) is that it doesn't belong to a company like SBA Towers or American Towers or something cool and independent like that; it belongs "to the town" or something; I think it is a public service transmitter; the only phone number was the County Sheriff's department; and I'm not gonna call them asking about it!

  • Tallest tower in The U.S. is 2063ft outside of Fargo, ND.

  • @stacker4501 Well then someone needs to get a huge tape measure so someone can measure.

  • @stacker4501 oh snap! you sir, are the winner

  • @BurningTirez You should probly tell someone about this 2600 foot tower because if its real then its the second tallest structure on earth...lol at least google things before you try and lie about them buddy.

  • @martyscheuerjr its real mayn u just gotta c it.

  • @Grillzor Guvmit mind control devises

    lol

We hired a guy and it wasn't five min from the shop he asked were the mind control towers were. Scarry thing is he was serious!

  • are you laughing, how could you even crack a smile up there shit im scared just watching

  • Does that mean that to receive that signal that my antenna should be 1/4 the length of that; 15 feet? Why is that so huge??!!?!

  • No, you use one quarter of the wavelength with a ground plane or a halfwave dipole.

If it is a VHF transmitter broadcasting at around 100 mhz then that is a 3 mtr wavelength so your 1/4 vave would be a 29 inch length of wire

  • @1DanielChristensen I doesn't have to mean the whole thing is one antenna: it could be that it has separate antenna's doing the job alltogether.

  • i would love to do that job fixing radio and tv a towers i love hieghts

  • I have a question. what is inside of the buildings at the base of some TV Towers?

  • The actual transmitters (in big cabinets), along with other stuff like backup power supplies (eg. diesel generators) and other comms equipment. Big feed cables run from the transmitters up to the aerials on the mast.

  • why not use dynamite?

  • watching that made my ding ding hurt

  • i need that strobe light

  • Need too :)

  • What a cool job. I WANT TO DO THAT WHERE DO I APPLY ???

  • ask any tower constructor... they usually have ties to them.

  • what is the pay for this job...right up my alley.

  • 80 bucks an hour, i hope

  • nowhere near that...40-50k per year is what i make...which is better than alot of college degree jobs get you(and i went to college). but the main thing is do you want to LOVE going to work everyday? than look into it there's always openings(noones beatin down the doors...high turnover) rigger is one of the last jobs where OJT is the only way to learn! BTW i took a cut in pay to do this because i hated working indoors and i don't regret a thing! Everyone wants an office with a view;)

  • He is standing on the gin pole section, which is used for lifting and/or removing sections of tower or long antennas. It looks like a UHF TV array being removed. Just another day in the life of a rigger.

  • You are correct. It was an old UHF antenna. Located just outside of Lawrence, KS

  • wow thanks for the video, that must be fun being up that high!! now why would you get fried by the antenna if the radio waves are such a low frequency compared to ionizing radiation? is it because of microwave signals, but not radio right like mhz. thank you !

  • @stacker4501 How the heck didn't you get scared? I would have pissed, crapped and vomited at HALF the height you're at.

  • @donmussell12 you seem knowledgeable: what are gust-wind speeds at the top of a 1000ft tower?

  • Ummm.....what is that guy who is filming standing on.....it looks like nothing but the edge of the tower.

  • wat is that sliver thing

  • F mE! tHEY better pay well!!!

  • OMG

  • good god keep up the good work boys that is somethin else

  • Balls of steal, omfg.

  • god

  • ok these views are freaking me out. i would be hugging and clawing the structure for fear of falling of being blown off. you gotta have balls of steel to do this i bet. imagine a cable breaking... your life is over, what do you do?

  • wow that made my beans draw up

  • Mouse your tag line cupcake!

  • Up on the runner down on the load.

  • meant 1300ft. you guys got nerves of steel!

  • Damn, looks like 300+ ft.

  • Takes balls the size of Kiwi's to do this stuff.... eeeeech..

  • nah you dont need balls you need good arms good legs and play it safe all the time

  • Are you hooked to the gin pole? How is it attached? (I'm always a bit wary of attaching myself to anything but the tower structure)

  • Yes, i'm hooked to the pole. It's a track pole attached with 1 inch steel chokers. Its not going anywhere.

  • i myself like attaching to the tower itself, and nothing that is bolted or so. A false sense of safety i guess...

  • wats that thing that is the light that blinks every 5 secs

  • it is the strobe light on the top and a copper lightening rod too.

  • How do you do it!?

  • @stacker4501 Never heard of rigging failure? All mechanical parts can fail, I would never get on a suspended load, and i am a certified rigger and climber

  • Those tower jacks have BIG brass ones!

  • I get dizzy just watching the video.

  • It's very windy here in Wyoming at ground level. At this height in the video, though, the wind is obviously a hazard, and according to a book I have it is a certain percentage (much) stronger than at ground level. I am like willbill808 because I'd have a heart attack too!!!

  • Crap! I would have a heart attack at that height!

  • When watching these tower videos, one usually doesn't think about what would happen if they dropped the camera.

  • When watching these tower videos, one usually doesn't think about what would happen if they dropped the camera--I suppose the camera and the recording medium would be destroyed (hence we wouldn't be watching this video or having this discussion) unless the operator attached the camera to himself.

  • you usually do attach EVERYTHING to yourself. you dont know who or what will you hit if something falls down

  • LOL a bummer if you dont like heights :)

  • The yellow gin-pole needs some corrosion control.

  • I could have sworen that it's the same one we used in the catskill mountains...the pole with the holes in the legs(lol)...
