i think the prisoner in the cell may have been one of the people against the cult in silent hill, so they locked him up, and from the sound from courtyard area, it seems that they may have hanged him. also, it would appear that his constant decent into the prison could be symbolic of his journey into hell, or indeed his own mind.
How come he's actually talking about the wall banging "RICHARD!" guy (or whatever he says). I spent like 20 minutes in these hallways trying to interact with the invisible b*stard, but he just looks at him, but says nothing.
What the hell is this guy about? Im on playthrough 2, but I still have no idea what the deal is with Mr. "Richard!"

I've played this game dozens of times and never passed up the rifle. Does the rifle show up elsewhere in the game after this point?
Cool. I figure the shotgun probably took longer (I try not to waste too much time), but congrats. If you could manage it, try to hit her with the Great Knife's overhead slash, especially when she's hanging around the foot of the bed. Never tried it myself (for some reason it just popped into my head), and I no longer have the game to try it. Let me know how you do.
When i went in the prison 4 the first time i was freaking out because all you hear is monsters in the bg and i thought one of those ceiling monsters was in the Hallway! And i kept seeing monsters in the cells but when i killed them ain't shit change! There was still nonstop mumbling from them!
Hmm, you know, I played on the hardest difficulty, and because I was too scared of running out of bullets/shells and saved them for something worse later (incredibly cheap with my ammo), I ended up beating the game almost with only the club (vomiting mutants) and pipe (for the nurses) and with 352 bullets, 168 shells, never used the rifle, 19 health drinks, 18 First Aids and never used an ampoule.

Theres another reference that I think refers to SH4 in the Bar: "There was a hole here, its gone now" Is that like a reference to the 'Rabbit Holes' in SH4. Its funny, because you never see any holes in the game, like all the SH games were planned before they even made SH1 (unless its a reference to SH1, which I havent played, I was too young and shit-scared!)

(in that room with the altar you can also get a little axe as weapon)) after that scene you wake up in "other" silent hill´s hospital.
I think I vaguely remember that bit. You walk into that shop that you have to find a key for, and you meet your cop friend in there and tell her there while you "go check it out, see if its safe". Or was it that part where you wake up in this upside down room made of bloody chicken wire, with hanging corpses. I cant remember TOO much about SH1, even though its the last SH game I played. Played them all in a weird order, like 4,2,3,5 & 1.
Man I hope they keep bringing out SH games. Atleast until SH10 (not counting the PSP ones). I wouldn't get bored of them. I mean look at the Final Fantasy series, Square has milked the living daylights out of it, yet AFAIK the fans still love it, and I think most of them are best sellers. SH5 had its flaws, but mostly bug related, not game related, 4 was good in its attempt to break the mould, 3 was great (maybe too hectic tho), 2 was godlike, and 1 was half-way between 2 & 3
Whatever the case, 1 & 2 are definitely the masterpieces of the series. I never got to play 1 when it came out on PS1. I had a demo, but that was it. If I played it when it was new, I might think the same. It was also way better than Resident Evil, even though it was classed (and rightly so) as a RE clone back in the day, but just in realtime 3D (much better than walking through still images). RE scared me as a kid, now its just cheesy, even funny, but SH is still serious, even now.

This game is seriously a masterpiece. It scared the shit outta me how you go down a billion feet underground below the historical society, and then just end up at the back door. The worst was when one of the holes was your own grave. Thats when i had to pause the game and take a break from being freaked the out!
I love that underground paradox thing, really cool and creepy. The part in this game that scares me out the most is when you're walking down the hall with the prison cells, and you hear heavy footsteps and then a demonic voice muttering something strange.
Best horror game ever made. Its not just a horror game, its an everything game, topped with a full flavour of your worst nightmares. This game works magic with sound, music and dialogue, not just graphics (you ever seen lighting as good as this before SH2 came out? I doubt it)

It's an unseen Silent Hill 2 monster known as the Prisoner. A higher pitched one can be heard saying something like "Are you Sure?" There harmless, but pretty scary xD

2:15 scared the everliving FUCK out of me the first time I played this game... I also kept thinking something like Pyramid head was going to some out of the darkness in that area
Personally, I think it's a demon because, the cell next to it has a summoning circle in there and books for summoning demons, but that's what I think...
Impressive how you walked trew the whole scene with just looking once on the map (or did you play it so many times its burned in your mind?) btw, that was a LONG way down..
You have to get the rebirth ending before you can get the dog key for the dog ending. Look online for a guide if you dont know how to get the rebirth ending.
i loved the fear of going into the prison. the mere mind shattering thought of what if you fall and die or you just end up in a little cell... theres no way back up and you rot there.

Lol I did to I got bored through my 2 play though so I turned my bullet count to times 3 and killed ANYTHING I came a cross after clearing out the prison I heard foot steps but no radio then James started looking so I got scared and started shooting the f**k out the dude then it sounded like it was human then I tried to get in it said the door thing was broke not "just another inviso" did you put that in there?

The storylines in all the SH games are just so effed up, but they fit in beautifully at the same time; the monsters are so creative and are unlike anything i've ever seen...i love these games, but i can't play them...too scared to, so i rely on my younger brother to play them for me XD

It's an unseen Silent Hill 2 monster known as the Prisoner. A higher pitched one can be heard saying something like "Are you Sure?" There harmless, but pretty scary xD

This part of the game really fucked with me. Especially when he jumps down the passageway where they dump the bodies and then the really creepy screetching music starts. Then the elevator just goes down and down into the labyrinth.

You have to get the rebirth ending before you can get the dog key for the dog ending. Look online for a guide if you dont know how to get the rebirth ending.

i loved the fear of going into the prison. the mere mind shattering thought of what if you fall and die or you just end up in a little cell... theres no way back up and you rot there.
