Though I do believe he plays it on the second and third string, the melody circulating around the 1st, 3rd and 4th fret. You can see that on the chicago gig.

The bridge is really wrong. I can show you the chords if you want to.

And I suppose you imrpovised in the part after the bridge, cause its not really played that way.
