I used to do gymnastics, and moved to athletics last year thanks to an injury. Thanks to my experience I find the kick out at the end no problem, but I just can't get enough height. I'm 13 and I jump about 5m, but the English Schools distance is 5.05 and I just can't quite get that extra 5m, please help!
My best jump is 13 feet 2 inches, I'm a junior varsity jumper for my high school team... And I'm looking to improve my technique, because I constantly feel sloppy when training with my fellow jumpers. Thanks for the tips!
i think my lift off is bad. i just run at it and try and jump as far as i can :/ trying to improve! annoying when i lose by like 2cms... i jump 6.09 right now and i think my landing is off as well >< thanks for the vid! hurray for my 5 dollar spikes i got at the sunday market!
Sports day on Friday. I'm 13 and have a personal best of 5.30m however I am worried about competition. Do I have a good jump and how do you measure your run up?
@Aledorabley they measure your mark that is closest to the board. so if you land on your feet, then fall backwards into the pit, they will take the mark where you fell that is closest to the board.
When we do long we run, jump and we have to land on two feet. Because they measure the closest mark to the board, so if you go on ur butt then they measure where ur butt landed
I am 12 years old and in year 7 and i got 3.98m - this is my best jump. The only thing is now i keep taken off with my left foot instead of my right- anyone have any suggestions to make this stop?
@ngsteven97 Yes it is ! It's fabulous isn't it? Really well equipped with really friendly and helpful staff ! I think they are using it as a training facility for the Olympics.
@r2fteachpe Hi, I am slightly perplexed by this, as her landing ended with her falling backwards somewhat. I am 15 years old and I am the best long jumper and high jumper in my school. However, having done eight jumps this year, my reccord was about 7 metres 14 - which I'm very proud of, but my 'technique' is nowhere near as technical (much more animalistic to be honest) and I'm 75% English, 25% Irish, so I don't believe it's because of heritage... I'm simply a little confused how I manage this.
Thanks for your video :) Today I pushed my limits by 1meter now I need to practise my Technique and new shoes would be helpful :) (still dreaming about special shoes not simple running :D) THANK YOU :)
My first ever long jump was 12'10 then I learned from this video and I can jump a 13'8 I'm looking forward to get to a 14 or maybe 15 but I don't think 15 cuz we have one more practice until sectionals!!!!!!!!
@theboy7744 Normally athletes hit their feet, then butt, then body. Because of the momentum they still have at the landing, the point where their butt hits is usually farther than where there feet hit, not diminishing the distance. If their body hits, they would either turn sideways to land so it it still father than their shortest mark, or the momentum still carries them forward past their feet.
im all the long jump video's i've seen the athletes fall backwards in their landing. My long jump coach says if you fall backwards they measure from where their head or hands fell. How do these athletes fall backwards and still achieve a good score?
r2fteachpe, is Jenny competing this year? 6.50m surely in reach....great videos, good biomechanics knowledge, clearly presented - these are some of the best techniques videos on the tube
when i was 16 i could jump 6.85 with less than a year training..i stopped training two years later and now,at my 24,i wish i didn't..i think i would be a good athlete..
i am in 7th grade and i have won long jump in both my meets and i am currently going for 16 feet (to qualify for state) i believe that this video will help.
This is really great :) The only thing I suggest to add is that one shouldn't land on their butt. I say this because at many of my competitions, the scorer will measure from the mark in the sand closest to the bar - including the spot from where your butt has landed in the sand.
I wanna be a long jumper!!! I wanna learn. I don't do long jump but have been running for few years. Oh is height that important for a long jumper? I'm a shorty. Lol. 1.55m.
- Im 14 & my best jump is like 13 something is that good ? And my best triple jump is 29'1 is that good for my age also? This is my 2nd year doing track.
Ive been more concerned with my takeoff, but the way she says it, I should focus more on my landing. FYI, my best jump is 5.72m with not really knowing what I was doing. Shootin for 6.21m this year!
Dude, our long jumps dont have any like extra plastic thats a different color than the track and is placed just in front of the board, its just an old board that can easily blend in with the track if you dont pay attention...we need an upgrade :(
Hi I am a freshman and my best record is 17'5. I know it kinda sucks but the reason why is my left leg calf hurts every time I jump. Next week is the track meet and is there a way to heal my calf?
@rockss2000 Dude, I have no training at all, and my record is 4.27m... I'm turning 13 in a month.... I'd also say you're doing well, or even more than well... Imagin how good you'd be with training.. ;)
What she calls the "amortization phase" is what we in America call the "penultimate step." 0:40 Just the fact that she mentioned it at all shows that she's competed at a high level.
@na18sum bc you should be standing straight up at the moment you start your jump phase, the momentum of her jump along with the technique causes your back to arch slightly which then acts as a "slingshot" which is where core strength comes in. @Aledorabley your nearest print on the sand will be measured.. so in that case the part where your butt landed will be measured.
