a couple years ago when bioshock came out i heard this song. at that time i was 9. my family went on a cruise that year and i was constantly singing this song. this old couple heard me singing this song and they asked me where i had heard that song becasue i was young. i told them bioshock and they just looked at me like "wtf did he just say????"
@blakegriplingph it's quite understandable. grapelli's emotional (even maudlin) soloing and the whole "european" ambiance of the piece would seem to go counter to contemporary sensibilities. (the hot club's music was once criticized for being "too modern." now, perhaps, it mght be "not modern enough.") these days django is a acquired taste, though im glad that i acquired it.
I can play this on the piano with my own epic intro. Back on subject, I'm suprised it wasn't used in BS2. ( In Bioshock, it was playing in the lighthouse if you listened closley).

@wopdjawd As far as I'm aware it's a cover. The song was written by Charles Trenet in 1943 but he only recorded it in '46. From what I understand Django recorded this version in '49.
@wopdjawd this is a cover the original is french and is called "la mer" french for "the sea" i belive and it was written by a fellow name Charles Trénet
Rapture. No gods or kings, only man, how great it would be. A beauiful utopia under the ocean. Signifigant advances in science, art, industry and architecture. What a dream huh? The glorious statues and banners and this song playing as you stroll in through the enterance elevator. "creativity, unity, beauty, understanding, intelligence, strength, wonder" the words that describe the wonderful city under the sea.
oh man, i have been looking for this song, I kept wondering if the great Django would ever get to do this song, so I have been looking for it, thank you man for posting this song. The picture and the music go together perfectly.
@ragingtears007 mmrm. This is probably the painting that Andrew Ryan was thinking of when he Said the he did not believe in "an imaginary man in the sky".... I do not know how you should like this painting. If you were an atheist, I would think you would despise it as it is irrational. If you were a Christian I would think you would despise it because of its violation of the second commandment.
@colorado4815162342 Ehhh I don't care much for religion. Too many rules not enough proof, y'know? I like it because of how precious it is. The one thing you hate throughout the entire game is none other than a babysitter for this demonic child, but here it makes it seem so sweet, especially with the music. It gives you the feeling of security and that's what I like best, even if it is symbolic of an imaginary man in the sky. I'm just a kid though so this probably really isn't too logical haha.
@ragingtears007 Christianity is not "religious" in the modern sense of the word. Christianity has the evidence of scripture and the physical universe; as opposed to mystical traditions that seek the immolation of its adherents.
@colorado4815162342 How is scripture evidence? It's a book written by regular people, it's not written by god or even jesus. Where is your proof that the universe was created by some being? If you had rock solid proof there would be no non-believers. Christianity is just a hodgepodge of other religions cobbled together. Christianity may not seek immolation, but it has sought stoning and other nice things like that. And don't give me the faith BS, that's just a cop-out.
@robs104, You assert the idea that the Bible was written by ordinary people. You assert the premise that Christianity is a hodgepodge of religions. You assume that there is nothing more than this world. If you assume that there is nothing other than this world, and if you are reasoning logically, you must conclude that all religion is false, and that the world is meaningless. This creates a new problem: having a world in the first place, if no creator existed to create it.
@colorado4815162342 I do not assume that there is nothing other than this world. In all likelihood there are, in the vastness of even the known universe (we know very little), probably other planets with intelligent life on them, possibly hundreds of other planets with such life. I have come to the conclusion that all religions (I know of) are false and ultimately I agree that our world is meaningless. We are less than a speck of dust, and while I enjoy existing, it doesn't really matter.
Thank you, @robs104, I used the term "world" to represent the universe, I will avoid this in the future. Bearing this correction in mind, consider why you disparaged my beliefs about life, the universe, and everything, if you are comfortable with your belief that the universe is meaningless. Why bear the cost of divulging a completely useless and trite assertion about the universe onto the Internet for no benefit?
@colorado4815162342 The only reason I commented in the first place is the, and I'm sorry, absolute ridiculousness of your "Christianity is not 'religious'" post. I was a practicing catholic for 14 years and even then I would have back hand slapped you for that post. :)
@robs104 if this is all there is, and if this one life is all we get, then it makes every little thing matter all the more. Conversely, if we were all immortal, THEN nothing would matter.
A comment typical of the pre-pubescent morons who habitually infect the planet with their excremental utterings. Lacking even elementary morés and a fundamental grasp of the English language they seek to offend but then that's all they are capable of.
beyond the sea is only the english version of this song, because those americans don't know that ther are many other languages on this world. they also believ to be the invetor of the pizza :-)
@morello64 Yeah, I hate Americans almost as much as I hate who think all people of a particular nationality are stupid based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

A comment typical of the pre-pubescent morons who habitually infect the planet with their excremental utterings. Lacking even elementary morés and a fundamental grasp of the English language they seek to offend but then that's all they are capable of.

@morello64 Yeah, I hate Americans almost as much as I hate who think all people of a particular nationality are stupid based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.
