Why do some people blame the cops? If the guy didn't terrorize the neighbors and then flee, this wouldn't have happened. When a cop is behind you you're supposed to pull over.
@archon808 Yes, because if everyone fleed the scene of a crime in a car and cops backed off all the time, people would learn this and would see it as an easy way to escape. So someone could come in your house and murder a loved one and then flee the place knowing full well cops will back off anyway. Great time for them to hide out somewhere. That's not right at all. I say chase them down until they hopefully run off a cliff for all I care.

However, keep in mind that most criminals will not be dumb enough to go back to their house. Your best bet is an undercover cop car following him somewhere. In fact, they really do need more undercover cop cars. It'd help out a great deal.

This is why, like I said, they need under cover cop cars to "follow" them from a distance, rather than chase them. This way when the criminals park and get out of the car they'll be a much easier target to go after.

@KC8YOQ I do see what you're saying and it does make sense, but in certain situations they don't want to lose a person. For example, if some psycho murdered my mother and then fleed the scene, I'd want cops to chase the guy before he murders someone else at random. So if anything I can understand it if the situation is bad enough.

If no officer chased then everyone would just run away and the authority that the towns and states have given them would be void. I think that the chase policy should be more aggressive! No chase should go over 2 miles before an officer should make a forceful attempt to wreck the car and end the chase.
@mrrodneyalong I also think that if you run at high speeds from an officer you should be jailed for no less then 10 years and up to 20. That would include minors as well. Then a program should be put in place to educate school kids at school of this law and it should be put on TV and radio as well.

@KC8YOQ the biggest problem that contributes to these chases is that they go on to long. Policy should be considered in all states to force fleeing cars to stop in the shortest amount of time and at the lowest speed possible. These people are often pursued for 10 miles or more. You are still missing my point- Its the guy fleeing that is causing the injuries and deaths. I have had lights in my mirror from a police car 8 times in my life and I have always pulled over- and noone was hurt or killed.

Most of the time they're too busy jumping out of the car to do their job than turn the siren off. Most sirens these days come with "Park Kill", which automatically turns the siren off when the car is put into Park. The only problem is that it only works if the upfitter connects it, and they only do it when the agency includes that in their specs.....so half of the time it's not hooked up...

@KC8YOQ the cop was not chasing him for an unpaid parking ticket, he was chasing him because he choose to run, and in the safety of the general public is the best course of action. If no officer chased then everyone would just run away and the authority that the towns and states have given them would be void. I think that the chase policy should be more aggressive! No chase should go over 2 miles before an officer should make a forceful attempt to wreck the car and end the chase.

@mrrodneyalong I also think that if you run at high speeds from an officer you should be jailed for no less then 10 years and up to 20. That would include minors as well. Then a program should be put in place to educate school kids at school of this law and it should be put on TV and radio as well.

@KC8YOQ the biggest problem that contributes to these chases is that they go on to long. Policy should be considered in all states to force fleeing cars to stop in the shortest amount of time and at the lowest speed possible. These people are often pursued for 10 miles or more. You are still missing my point- Its the guy fleeing that is causing the injuries and deaths. I have had lights in my mirror from a police car 8 times in my life and I have always pulled over- and noone was hurt or killed.

Most of the time they're too busy jumping out of the car to do their job than turn the siren off. Most sirens these days come with "Park Kill", which automatically turns the siren off when the car is put into Park. The only problem is that it only works if the upfitter connects it, and they only do it when the agency includes that in their specs.....so half of the time it's not hooked up...
