Yes, I agree, but this (probably Italian) harpsichord helps a lot, thanks to its singing treble and transparent, contrapuntal sound not letting any voice clutter the other ones.
I always felt this piece conveyed sadness, but this particular rendition makes it sound terrifying. Nice.
