I have bought a 1TB Caviar black lately as well and i'm very very pleased with the HDD speed as well as with the very tiny noise it's letting out, great great purchase :)
I just got my new core i5 system built with this same WD Caviar Black 500Gb HD, It's been only two weeks and it just started making a lot of noise and it's LED light is constantly blinking. Can anyone tell if the HD is bad or it's just normal?
question: i am going out tomorrow to get a caviar black, i am thinking of getting a 1tb or a 640bg. now since the 1tb drive will have bigger/more plates will it spin slower than the 640bg ? i dont want to sacrifice speed for space
well your better off doing this one solid state HD for your os, get 1 or 2 of these WD Black in raid 0 (note for the 1TB ver. you will have to use a program to make it raid 0) and 2 500GB Wester Digital blue or black in raid 1. install your os on the solid state use the raid 1 to store pictures, files and large program, drag shortcuts from your 1 raid hds to your os folder and use the 1TB for games only if in raid 0.
you can also get two 1TB Black with 1 500GB black and a solid state HD. Use the solid state HD as a boost for your 500GB hard drive silverstone has a boost you can hook up to your sata drive and solid state drive
They will be faster but SSDs will always be superior to HDDs. Since traditional HDDs are mechanical in nature they have a predisposed disadvantage to SSDs which utilize no mechanical parts.
what do you mean in this video you unbox the hard drive in 2:41, you can unbox in that thime the cpu or the gpu, don't get me wrong i just want to see the final product :)
i have a 20,000 video aduence im not eligable un till my channel views get to 20,000 and my subcribers get to 300 im 290 subcribers away and 18,000 channel vies away for becoming one
I have the caviar black 1 TB HD and I think it's pretty quiet! Can only hear when 1st turn on pc and when loading game or software! U made a good choice! 5/5

The 1TB runs just as fast as the 640GB. They both operate at 7200RPM.

well i want raid 1 for backup.. i dont need raid 0 coz 500GB is enough( i know it will increase performance with raid 0)

A SSD would be faster and more responsive than this drive. I think using a SSD for your OS drive is a great idea.
kodemunke 2 years ago
yea, thats what i thought :) but i will be waiting for sata3 drives since it will be considerably faster

@kidowner faster than ssd ?
edwardcphipps 2 years ago
mm sata is the interface of the drive so it has nothing to do with ssd or hdd

why just not unbox them all in 1 video then build the fucking PC ?
daswada9 2 years ago
Because, if I unboxed them all in one video the video would be too long to upload to youtube.
kodemunke 2 years ago
resaon why they dont let you go pass 10 min is because your not a youtube partner you tube partners get unlimated min of video that they can upload
jon204 2 years ago 9
If I had more clients and a large enough audience I wouldn't mind applying to be a YouTube partner.

Thanks, I am partial to Western Digital.

I personally would have gone with Seagate 7200.12 500 GB. About the same write and read speeds but silent as death.
ltshiro 2 years ago 11
I am not sure how loud this drive is but I am sure it isn't that loud. I have the Western Digtal RE3 1 TB in my PC and it is pretty silent.
