I have a VERY standard closet. Its kind of small, but standard nonetheless. I have about two shelves that cover about half the closet, and a third one that goes the entire length. I have a box that i stock with Food and Water, but that is the only thing i have. What else can I do to expand my stores?
@buttercow12 try going through your day without any power, or utilities, you find what you need, flashlights, a stove to heat water and cook with, etc
I use rice a lot on the trail. But I do not cook it. I just put some in my mouth and have a drink of water that I was going to have anyways. Rice has starch, it is a type of sugar. I buy my rice at the dollar store that is already vac packed. Your body is the rice cooker! I used this in the Military. Yes people said no it would not work. They now know it does works. I am a army medic. Not the non fighting type. I am very cross trained. Good luck if your not trained to survive. Learn from pro's!

You know hording laws will go into effect and even if you store food in your house, the Government will search each house and come in as the Military and take everything, all the food you bought and shoot you.
They will make sure every hoarder is shot, that will be the law because, that is how governments are in times of crisis, they rule over us and now they watch everything we do especially if you buy with a credit or debit card they know exactly were to go.

Have now tried both eFoods and Mountain House. Maybe was my mind playing tricks but the eFoods felt more satisfying to me. The trade off is that eFoods is not cooked all the way yet so you need to spend additional 20 minutes or so cooking it. The Mountain House food prep is boil the water, add it to the food and let stand. You need less heating fuel to prepare. Just something to consider. I myself like the eFoods better, but would rely on Mountain House if heating fuel and time were issues.
@beast12101 ok....those water packs are useless. thats not enough water to keep you alive. BETTER: learn how to collect rainwater and boil it. learn how to set up a 'rainwater collection system'. thats more efficient. if the rainwater is contaminated youre dead anyway. learn how to grow food, cause if you dont have THAT skill then your 'emergency rations' arent gonna last long and youll die anyway in long term.

Hello, Beast12101, I was wondering about drinking your own urine. We know it is possible, when water is short, but my question is, do you think a water filter would help in that last ditch effort scenario? I have not yet seen a video about doing that, and the results. I live in the desert SW, so I am very interested in any type of answer. Thank you,
@beast12101 Sorry but accidently voted down your comment. Was trying to comment.Didn't mean to vote you down but anyways. There actually is a way to distill water naturally.Buy some aluminum foil a big bowl and some saran wrap and a smaller bowl. Cover big bowl with foil, then put water in it. Then put smaller bowl in the bigger bowl. Then cover all of it with saran wrap. Then put something on the saran wrap that will make the water go into the smaller bowl. Put out in the sun. Hours later. wahlaa
Looks like your 200+ videos cover it all when it comes to preparing for the crisis ahead. Did you do anything about disposing of human waste? the "redneck" way is to dig a hole, do your business, and cover it up. Problem is that bacteria can get into the water system and bacteria can cause disease and death. There is a process called humanure composting. Check it out by doing a search for humanure and also the Loveable Loo. Disposal of human pee and poo is something that preppers often forget.
@dwightinutah i had a friend do 2 years in costa rica installing compost toilets, I like the woods shaving in a bucket method, depends on how many folk are using it, but if it fills up in a week, then get 52 buckets, by the time 1 year has past the first bucket is great compost
Living in the desert I dont care what doctors say I drink no less then a gallon and a hlaf of water a day, no questions asked. if Im out hiking it increases to 3 gallons a day. trust me theres no such thing as too much water in the desert. Hey great video, well rounded food stores. For a while now I have wondered why folks even bother with the MRE's. They are heavy, so-so shelf life (I think?), and I have heard that they are so-so in taste. However, your last point about the fact that they are not dehydrated or freeze dried--boy I feel sorta foolish now! I think I will be picking some up. :)
Here in Los Angeles and Southern California we can go 9 months without a drop of rain. I have been storing as much water as I can in my shed along with food and propane.
I would suggest you get some Datex emergency bars and some Survival Tabs, they last 5 to 10 years. They take up a lot less space then MRE's. Two weeks of food easily fits in something the size of a shoebox
do you live in a desert area? i don't keep water, i just keep a hand pump water filter in my day pack that has a camel back sort of reservoir for storage, its called platypus, its made out of food grade plastic and you don't get any of that plastic taste.
@dirtTdude your system depends upon you being able to attain water. where do you live? near a river? in los angeles we are a desert. that wouldn't work for us. still, it's good to have when traveling.
Just be careful rely on already hydrated foods. If you're not drinking water, but you're eating, even already hydrated meals, your body will still not have enough water to keep itself hydrated for more than a week or so. If you're doing any physical activity, you need water with any food, whether already hydrated or not. Good vid!
The food sealer bags fail over time. Dump them. Learn pressure canning for meats, fruits, veggies and dry goods, so your rice and beans won't drive your body crazy after the SHTF.
If I owned my home,I definitlly would, but its hard for me to justlify all that added weight and equiptment, if i just end up moving it around all the time, my long term stuff in all sealed in 10# cans but I dont touch that stuff for everday use.
If you are away from home (with your BOB of course) and make the stay/go choice to go, eat alot of food and drink alot of water before you leave. Why? Which is easier, to wear a coat or carry it? Wear it, of course. Same with food. You could choose to carry 20 pounds of food or eat five pounds of it in three meals before you leave. The advantages are obvious. Also, less for others to try and steal.
Carrying alot of water over distance is a burden you do not want.
back in the day before a big game , coach would tell us to "carb load" and your right there no use trekking out with your gas tank half empty, we're lucky in the NW having so much water available, I rarely carry a big bladder with me.
i can't get buckets because I'm 14 and don't have a lot of money and I'm the only one who believes in preparing (my mom thinks nothing bad will ever happen to use) and my family has a vacuum sealer?
buckets can be had for free, ask a local restaurant, donut shop, etc. A good food grade bucket. Good ones I have found store butter or pickles. they have a really good seal on the lid. I will be doing a cheap food storage vid coming soon.
@piehi2 i just wanted to encourage you to keep on doing all you can do in prepping. Even if your family doesn't think anything bad will happen--you can love them best by prepping for em--as much as you can :-)
@piehi2 buy a 5 lbs. bag of krusteaz pancake mix. all you need to do is add water. the eggs are already included. tell her you wantto join the boy scouts.
@piehi2 Get into hiking, and outdoor pursuits etc. You can then get yourself a bug-out bag, some survival equipment etc, without raising questions. Your mom will think it's a healthy hobby, and you'll be doing what you think is right. Win win. Plus the hiking will actually prepare you physically. And it's fun.
@piehi2 im with you man. my parents didnt belive me either. i was 15 when i woke up. and im 18 now. my mom is onboard with me. but my dad is still pretty brainwashed. just gatta convince then with videos. show them meltup. its a 50min video on youtube talking about the economy with good facts. maybe your parents will wake up. just keep traying. i hope everything goes well. btw i just uploaded my first food prepardness video. check it out.
hey dude i love your vids but i cant put my rice on mylar bags and 5 gallon buckets i was wondering if vacuum sealing it would work for long time storage?
why cant you use buckets, size? Vacuum would work ok, but you should still use o2 absorbers, Plus mylar keeps the light from breaking down the product, so if you vacuum them keep them in a crak area, and be sure no rodent could get at them.
Oxygen absorbers can be found at the LDS web site. The price there is very hard to beat. Once you open them though, you'll have to use them fast or reseal them because they start absorbing O2 right "out of the bag".
Just look on the ldscatalog daught caughm site and type "absorbers". They're only $12 for 100 of them. I bought 200 of them but have yet to put them to use. You'd need to use them quickly.
I think they should double package them individually to stop this.
flavor wise, its a toss up. It all depends on whether you want to cook your food or not. MRE are heavier but dont have to be heated, even if you want if hot stop, put some water in the heating jacket, stuff it back in your pack and hike on for a while then when you stop your food will hot and ready to go.
Another great video :D Question...are you reorganizing all of your supplies? Looks like you've got a lot more to share in the background of your video, Keep 'em coming, they're awsome !
Great stash dude! I have a boat load of 6 gallon buckets of beans rice and wheat, and also a lot of canned food but I'm only now starting to buy items like mountain house. I've never backpacked so I was never introduced to backpacking rations. I think items like that have an important place in your preps.
Great video and smart planning. Having both kinds of meals is an excellent idea. I also never thought about the water packets being sterile and having them to use as first aid!
really nice surplus of food. FYI - if you have a Seal-A-Meal system you can make your own type of MRE or Meals so all you would need is to grab say 6 Meal Pkts and you are set for a 2 or 3 day scout / camping trip. it works great and after sealing they will last for afew years that way. Keep up the great Videos. Nice to see a fellow Sea-Town home boy doing the right stuff. Stay dry and moss free. Hamm336

i can't get buckets because I'm 14 and don't have a lot of money and I'm the only one who believes in preparing (my mom thinks nothing bad will ever happen to use) and my family has a vacuum sealer?
piehi2 2 years ago 10
buckets can be had for free, ask a local restaurant, donut shop, etc. A good food grade bucket. Good ones I have found store butter or pickles. they have a really good seal on the lid. I will be doing a cheap food storage vid coming soon.

this is exactly what i'm saying i'm 14 and we are no way prepared for anything

@piehi2 im with you man. my parents didnt belive me either. i was 15 when i woke up. and im 18 now. my mom is onboard with me. but my dad is still pretty brainwashed. just gatta convince then with videos. show them meltup. its a 50min video on youtube talking about the economy with good facts. maybe your parents will wake up. just keep traying. i hope everything goes well. btw i just uploaded my first food prepardness video. check it out.

hey dude i love your vids but i cant put my rice on mylar bags and 5 gallon buckets i was wondering if vacuum sealing it would work for long time storage?
piehi2 2 years ago
why cant you use buckets, size? Vacuum would work ok, but you should still use o2 absorbers, Plus mylar keeps the light from breaking down the product, so if you vacuum them keep them in a crak area, and be sure no rodent could get at them.
beast12101 2 years ago
oh yeah and where can i get o2 absorbers
piehi2 2 years ago
Oxygen absorbers can be found at the LDS web site. The price there is very hard to beat. Once you open them though, you'll have to use them fast or reseal them because they start absorbing O2 right "out of the bag".
Just look on the ldscatalog daught caughm site and type "absorbers". They're only $12 for 100 of them. I bought 200 of them but have yet to put them to use. You'd need to use them quickly.
I think they should double package them individually to stop this.

@beast12101 So do I place the oxygen absorber in the bucket and then seal it? I don't get it..

what do pefer the moutin house or mre. i dont care what the food tast like. i just want to know what type of meal from thoughs two i should put in.
samurimaster500 2 years ago
flavor wise, its a toss up.

Looks like you've got a lot more to share in the background of your video, Keep 'em coming, they're awsome !
sassylindalou 2 years ago
safest I would say using a hot plate, run off of a solar set up. no fumes, no open flames. renewable power

I'm looking for some MRE's but i can only find the civilian kind, does anyone know where i can buy the military ones?
ratm33 2 years ago
If you are looking for military MRE's check out a local army/navy store or search online, there are lots of places to pick them up.

I also never thought about the water packets being sterile and having them to use as first aid!

while some of those emergency foods are good I personally like to store what I eat and eat what I store. Have you heard this saying?

really nice surplus of food. Hamm336
