As someone who has no horse in this race, I have to say, why? Why do you attack this group or religion, let the people believe as they wish, and live their lives. I know mormons and they don't seem brain washed. Let them live their lives and you can live yours.
Pro-family my foot! Try being gay, or dare to leave the LDS, or marry a non-mo, or just put a toe outside Mormonism... The worst thing Mormonism does to families is to deny family members who aren't "worthy" to have a temple recommend from attending the sham of a wedding held in the temple. No other religion does this.
All the assigned church-related busywork that takes people away from time with their families is hardly family-friendly.
The FLDS are Mormons who live Mormonism just like Joe Smith and Brigham Young did. Moreover, the Utah Mormons have never repudiated polygamy as a doctrine. They have only suspended it's practice for a time. A Utah Mormon can STILL be sealed to multiple wives (when the first dies, he can be seals to another) and expects to have them all in the resurrection.
Mormons should stick w/the Bible...The Bible's God doesn't change like Joseph Smith's god does. The Bible's God created Adam&Eve (NOT Adam&Eve&Martha&Mary&on&on); and when the time came for the incomprehensible, INFINITE God to manifest Himself to finite humanity as Jesus Christ, He maintained the same ideal in Matthew19:4-6! The Bible's God is UNCHANGING, the BoM's god changes. EVERLASTING doesn't really mean everlasting for the Mormon!
If that's your argument against Christian polygamy, you should attempt to read the rest of the bible, were essentially ALL the men of God (the men closest to God, like Moses and Abraham and Daniel) have 4-5 wives a piece. If God doesn't change, and if the standards for right and wrong don't change, then Polygamy in Christianity is FINE.
After all, when God told the Israelites to slaughter a group of the Canaanites, he specifies two virgin captives for every 1 Israelite man.
@LuckyDukeSeven You said, "After all, when God told the Israelites to slaughter a group of the Canaanites, he specifies two virgin captives for every 1 Israelite man."
This proves that Mormons are not Christian. The Bible is absolute in its morality. Polygamy was permissible for the prophets, so it is permissible for us. ALWAYS
True, Mormons have put on hold the doctrine of polygamy -- that is, the mainline LDS Church. There are other Mormon groups that have polygamy. These groups are a minority of the Mormon faith, but they are still Mormons.
You should marry a farm animal and then claim that you'll have an everlasting source of ham or chicken in the next life. Makes as much sense as anything that any religion preaches. Religion is such a waste of time, trouble and money.
I am 17, my mothers side mostly LDS. If the LDS doesn't practice poligamy, then why are men and men alone aloud to be sealed in the temple more than once? That is spiritual poligamy, no? You can open your freaking Book of Morman, which the bible clearly states that any other word is false, aka the BoM.. So back to poligamy, you can open your Book of Mormon and still find preaching of it, there for polygamy is still in the church.. You can keep saying it isn't, but you are lying..
@MissCailley where does it state this? and has it always? Because that verse that states that the Bible is complete is in Revelation. and it actually only refers to the BOOK of REVELATIONS. which was not considered even PART of the Bible until 400 years ago. And if you MUST point at polygamy... How many wives did Jacob have? who's name was changed to Israel. Wasn't that 2? and 2 mistresses besides? Or Solomon? who built the first Temple to god. he had 1000 wives. That's from the BIBLE.
@MissCailley the only verse that states that the Bible is complete is in Revelation. and it actually only refers to the BOOK of REVELATIONS. which was not considered even PART of the Bible until 400 years ago. Or Solomon? who built the first Temple to god. he had 1000 wives. That's from the BIBLE. Try reading it sometime.
@MissCailley Also, as for that part about being sealed to another woman... If your mother were to die, and your father fell in love again later... are you saying that he should have to divorce your mother just so he can marry his next love? So God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, but I'm supposed to believe that he just stopped sending prophets to us? because some guy named Martin Luther decided to put the Book of Revelations at the end of the Bible? He stopped healing us?

They spit in Jesus' face & trampled the New Covenant that He cut in His blood. They neither deemed nor esteemed His Word good enough or right enough to honor. 1Timothy. 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well, et al. They chose not to serve the undivided attention & holy affection that a woman & hers deserve.
I've never known of bigger bullshitters than Mormon "authorities." Study past the dishonest, sanitized, revisionist church history & ridiculous over-romanticization of Joe Smith who let religious power go to his head & then take him over utterly & completely. You do not even have to go outside of LDS sources to see the sin & shame. Smith & spiders spun quite the web for gold, glory & girls, It is stinking pitiful that they were not man enough of God that one woman could satisfy them.
The list is long. 1. salvation. 2. Jesus. 3. God. 4. Faith - works issue... 5. True church made by believers, not building. 6 Marriage in heaven - no. 7 Spiritual polygamy - no. 8. Prophet. 9. Apostles. 10. 3 heavens - no. 11. Hell... A believe is stronger than a fact, I have a mormon after me, but i've made really clear, i will not have anything to do with him, he has his wife, but he insist that is ok with him, and the church, Please!! He needs to be more of a man to be my man! Stupid
The only men who become Gods, even the songs of God, are those who enter into polygamy Journal of Discourses Vol 11 page 269. Can anyone tell me this is not LDS history? Lds try to justified what their leaders did and still doing telling that the bible was full of poly? back than woman were not free, n 4 this many man took adavantage of this, if that was Gods plan he would've created Adam, eve, maria, estela, anita, teresa and on, but because man there has always been a mass in this life.
Really don't like this topic, man as usual, and some stupid woman like Sarah, sent her husband to another woman for not believing in the promise of God, for this, we have the Middle East, where the descendents of Ishmael are fighting with their brothering Isaac. Where a man puts his hands in God’s plan there’s always a mess. Joseph Smith was no different, was he killed for Jesus sake? no; he was killed for poly, he cound't control his pipe.
Abraham had two wives and was a prophet of God. Polygamy was not given as the reason for Hagar’s problems in Gal 4:22-23. Jacob had four wives and they had twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. God appeared to Jacob at Luz and said to him: “I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee.” Perhaps the greatest part of this blessing came through Joseph and his sons Ephraim and Manasseh. Joseph who was sold into Egypt was the son of Jacob and his beloved second wife Rachel. (Gen 48:3-5)
"For false Christ’s and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." Mark 13:22 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;" 2 Timothy 4:3 "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;" 1 Timothy 4:1
Joseph Smith was the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The LDS revere him as a prophet. God established the rite of marriage between Adam and Eve. (Gen 2:24) Only God has authority to modify this rite. In the Old Testament God made a covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Both Abraham and Jacob had more than one wife. Elder Ballard did not mislead anyone. Latter-day Saints have not practiced polyamy since 1890.
God's covenant with Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob and their polygamy were independent of each other. Plus, in every time polygamy was involved, misery wasn't far behind. In Galatians 4:22-23, the son from Hagar was an allegory of an act of the flesh. So, God never looked upon polygamy with favor. God never "changed the rite". God ALWAYS favored monogamy. Polygamy was always a mistake in God's eyes.
There is PLENTY of evidence to show that LDS polygamy did NOT end in 1890. If you're REALLY interested in the truth, it's easy to find.
I'll tell you this. If I were in Wilford's shoes and Jesus REALLY DID tell me to end polygamy, I would roust out the 12 and give them the word and send them out to tell all the SP's in their assigned areas, and the SP's would roust out ALL the bishops in their stakes and in 2 or 3 days ALL Mormons would have been notified.
It didn't work that way in reality. Instead, the LDS leadership moved operations to Arizona and to New Mexico and eventually to Mexico (thinking they could get out of the jurisdiction of the US Government). LDS leadership continued the practice until 1910 or later.
IOW, they LIED to the Government to get them off their backs.
The Manifesto was window dressing. NOWHERE in the carefully worded Manifesto does Wilford EVER say that God told him to end polygamy.
Thats the wrong way to speard gods word. But they had to do it at a time they were most persecuted. Former San Frasisco 49er Steve Young is one of thousands of great grandsons of Brigman Young*. (*= founder of the latter day saints)
@eitoobmiz No. Joseph Smith is the founder of the LDS church and he was guided by God. Satan is the enemy of every member of the LDS church and the church itself.
Ballard mislead the audience in this talk. According to the D&C, Joseph was given the revelation on polygamy in 1831. TBM historians admit that Joseph started the practice in 1833 (Fanny Alger) and introduced it to others before the Nauvoo period. These historians also admit that there was polygamy practiced by the leaders of the church, including Woodruff, well after 1890.
Current elders Nelson and Oaks are both sealed to two women with the promise of both in heaven.
DAVIS COUNTY -- Only three weeks into operation, social networking site LDS*biz already has 1,600 members from across the globe, many of them from Davis County.
And in the first 22 minutes of a Clipper interview, two more members joined.
I sat looking at the long board room table stacked high with 600 books. Two years and two months and the biography of Thomas S. Monson was printed, ready to be read. It was a strange feeling. The manuscript and I had been inseparable, day and night; my computer was filled with files and transcriptions of interviews and drafts of chapters, research notes, quotes and my personal impressions.
Now the books were going into the hands of thousands. They, like me, would see Thomas S. Monson, sixteenth president of the church, with expanded vision. . .
Freedom of contract, religious autonomy and the Mormon temple recommend prevailed recently in The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)[1] as the Court rendered its judgment in the case of Obst v. Germany (application no. 425/03). More specifically, the ECHR found that Germany had not violated Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights
@omiolo "The wicked have historically tried to damn the Prophets. You continue that trend. REPENT!!!" -- are you saying that Joseph Smith had no need to repent? are you saying he was perfect in every way possible? you are so definitely living your own religion in ignorance, and then you have the audacity to point the finger of ignorance all the "apostates" and non-mormons.
How about this answer...The church is true, the people are not. Along with this topic...The reason some of our church members used to practice polygamy was because at that time the men were going off to war and dieing ...In turn the women wouldn't be able to fund there family....So some men would marry them to provide a home for them and there children along with food to eat...Don't judge something unless you know what it is....
I suggest that you actually READ the "revelation" that Joe had that gave rise to polygamy (Plural Marriage).
That would be section 132 of the D&C. At verse 63, the ONLY purpose for polygamy is given by god to Joseph Smith (allegedly). That purpose was to "multiply and replenish"--meaning to have massive numbers of kids to grow the church. NOWHERE does it say to take poor widows to wife.
There were very FEW widows. Why would one have to MARRY them in order to take care of them?
Other Church leaders in attendance included Elder William R. Walker, executive director of the Temple Department, Elder Erich W. Kopischke, president of the European Area and his counselors, Elder Gérald Caussé and Elder José A. Teixeira of the First Quorum of the Seventy.
Gay rights have been a big issue in the past couple of years and the LDS church has taken a stand once again. Argentina is looking to pass a gay marriage bill. In response to this, the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent a letter reiterating its stand on traditional marriage.
From its beginning, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has celebrated the efforts of pioneers, of those who carved out homes in the wilderness, made the desert blossom as a rose, built cities and established institutions.
This year's Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert on Friday will focus on the choir's own pioneering efforts, particularly in the field of recorded music.
Folau admits its not easy being a footballer and a Mormon.
"It's hard," he says. "Sometimes you get tested a bit. I've been a Mormon all my life, I've been brought up as a Mormon, at times it gets a bit hard. But I tend to get a lot of support from my team-mates, they support my background."
The padres were among Utah's first "pioneers," here long before the heyday of the fur trappers in the early 1800s or the arrival of the Mormon settlers in 1847. The very day in 1776 that Jefferson's Declaration of Independence was officially adopted was also the scheduled start of the priests' expedition.
Pretty tunes don't get rid of their recorded, written down doctines already set in stone...This blood oath taking, satan worshipping, witchcraft cult is hell bound...They STEAL family values from LEGITIMATE BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN VIRTUES to make their religion seem Godly and worthwhile...This man is a phony and a fraud...
In all, 10 of the 15 men of the church's First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve — whom Mormons revere as prophets, seers and revelators — spoke Saturday.
Speaking in the priesthood session, President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency, encouraged service with the Spirit.
@omiolo The bible warms us not to blindly follow anyone who claims to be a prophet but no Mormon will question anything they are taught. When confronted with a discrepancy between the bible and BOM (or a prophet), instead of questioning the prophet it's the bible that is "mistranslated". But no use arguing about it, Nothing is more important to a Mormon than "the church", not even God. The truth is out there, you just have to want to find it, and most LDS don't want to, so they blindly follow.
@omiolo Stoning and testing are two completely different things. I repent daily but not for speaking the truth. I want you to know that I am not attacking you, I am simply saying this argument is pointless because you will never question what your told in church. You blindly follow a false Jesus, just like the bible warns us about, and you do it easily. 2 CORINTH 11:3-5
We must test ALL Prophets and it says this in the bible, Deuteronomy 13. If their teachings don't match up, its false teaching
@llevijr How would a boy with only the education of a fifth grader (thats how it was back in those days) translate something that was about a couple thousand pages long, and have actual archeological and historical evidence that correlates with the writings? And in a few months? wow you know he MUST of made it up. Listen here bud, if you are so sure that joseph smith was a fake I want you to right a book a thousand pages long about ANCIENT TIBET. and without research of any kind. couldyou do it
"May we be filled with gratitude for the right of choice, accept the responsibility of choice and ever be conscious of the results of choice," he said. "As bearers of the priesthood, all of us united as one can qualify for the guiding influence of our Heavenly Father as we choose carefully and correctly.
Drawing from examples in the scriptures, President Samuelson spoke of the need for individuals to use the proper amount of zeal — to avoid being over or under zealous — as they approach all activities in which they are involved.
"We are in favor of correctly focused zeal," President Samuelson said. "We admire courageous leaders and those who are willing to sacrifice or stand for what they know is right."
@omiolo I'm just saying that according to all of the churches founding prophets that was the only way a good Mormon could become truly exalted in the next life. I read it in a book by Joseph Fielding Smith, as well as the book of mormon, I did not make that up. Unless God changed his mind, all of a sudden, Coincidentally when Utah was trying to achieve statehood. Either that or the LDS founding prophets aren't really prophets. I'm betting on the latter because the god I know never changes.
@dontdodrugs666 You do know that Mormons (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) who practice polygamy can face serious consequences from their church leaders and can have their membership taken away for having multiple spouses?
Rather than downplaying the reality and power of Jesus' miracles," Huntsman wrote, "this translation emphasizes what the (miraculous signs) symbolize or teach about Jesus … rather than focusing on the acts themselves."
Elder Sam Wong, an Area Seventy from Hong Kong who conducted the meeting, testified, "This was a remarkable event, one of the largest meetings of senior priesthood leaders ever held in Hong Kong. Elder Dallin H. Oaks reminded us that we need to use the priesthood more effectively. We must magnify the roles which have been given to us as Melchizedek Priesthood holders."
We sit together as families and do our best to listen and teach one another the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Understanding that next week could be our week to speak.”
“However, they prepare their own remarks by using the scriptures and seeking the promptings of the Holy Ghost,” Riley said. “In this meeting we partake each week of the Sacrament, some may know this as Communion, and then listen to our members speak on their assigned topics, and together we also sing a few hymns. We do not separate our youth or our children in this meeting.
Actually, it’s amusing to remember that we once wrote stories about Israel giving up his peak years as a professional sportsman to go on a Mormon mission!
@kramd1 “Actually, we believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority to preach the Gospel and administer its ordinances,” Riley said. “In this case, the stake president holds those keys, or that authority, and he called me from among the congregation to serve in this position at this time.”
Phoenicia is a 70 foot/21.5 meter long nailed pine ship modeled after the ancient design, even down to the 600 BC toilet lashed to its side. It was built in Syria and had already sailed down the Suez Canal and through the Red Sea to Aden in Yemen, on the southern tip of Arabia. From here I joined the crew for the next leg of the journey northeast to Salalah, the town that lies in the fertile southern area of Oman touched each year by monsoon rains
there is NO such thing as spiritual polygamy. Marriage is done on earth and sanctioned by the state. Nice try though! If you have PROOF of anyone practicing polygamy, especially in the LDS Church, you can go to the press and they will have a field day with, because polygamy is ILLEGAL!
@omiolo IT IS ILLEGAL, that's why an agreement was made to discontinue the practice.
To gain state hood the church had to concede on the practice in temporal marriages. Plural marriage is defended , ordained by Mormon God, today and plural marriages are performed in LDS temples for celestial afterlife marriages. TRUE
I would deny it too If I where you. The sordid details of his ( Joseph Smith ) sexual activities are there for all to see. A Polygamist , pedophile & Adulterer.
@kramd1 I guess I need to repeat myself. If you have PROOF that Mormons are practicing polygamy, please go to the FBI and report them. You can end up being the ANTImormon who took down the LDS church. If NOT you might want to take a course in HONESTY, since it seems to be lacking on your part!
@omiolo Nice try ? , Then read of one of your prophets Joseph F Smith who continued the practice after the manifesto having 13 children to wives after the 1890 prohibition on plural marriage. At some point tho' the LDS church decided to distance itself from the real mormons that where continuing to practice polygamy in secret.
It's amazing that on one hand you will defend it saying that the ancients did it then deny it exists today.
"Nephi" is not found in the King James Bible but is found in the Apocrypha as a place name. The Apocrypha are part of the Catholic collection of scriptures (which was available in Joseph's day) but is not included in the Protestant scriptures such as the King James Version Bible. Whether Joseph had access to the Apocrypha in 1829 is unknown but unlikely.
The name "Sam" certainly seems out of place of in an ancient Israelite document. It has, in fact, been the target of criticism by various anti-Mormons through the years. It is also, however, a perfectly good Egyptian name, and is also the normal Arabic form of "Shem."
This is bullshit any mormon polygamist are actually the real mormons, and the ones that are not polygamist are the faker mormons, you see mormons are really a cult of agenda pushing queers I know this to be true, have you seen craigslist gay section there are thousands of lds looking for gay sex with other lds members
@olverafam “We don’t even pay a crew to clean the church building,” Riley said. “As families, we are grateful for all the tithes and offerings that have allowed us to have such a beautiful meeting house, so we all take time to volunteer to clean the church once per week prior to our Sunday meetings.”
Elder Nelson received the Heart of Gold award in 2002 for his involvement in the fight against heart disease and strokes. Elder Nelson, who was by profession a surgeon and medical researcher, is a former president of the Society for Vascular Surgery and former chairman of the Council on Cardiovascular Surgery for the American Heart Association. His efforts proved him to be a pioneer in open-heart surgery and helped to bring information and skills to Utah.
In conclusion, President Clark emphasized the role faith plays in having an eternal family. We know from our experience over many years, that everything about becoming a husband or wife and a father or mother in an eternal family is an act of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he said. Looking for your eternal companion, and deciding to marry is an act of faith. Deciding to have children is an act of faith. Rearing children in love and righteousness is an act of faith.
To the women, Sister Clark emphasized the importance of learning and teaching. The key to this preparation is the Holy Ghost. As you teach your children the gospel, and everything else, the Holy Ghost will help you, support you, and bless you, she said. Prepare now for that great day by listening to the whisperings of the Spirit in your life and qualifying for the companionship of the Holy Ghost.
President Clark spoke specifically to the men about the role of a husband and father. If you are faithful and magnify your callings in the priesthood (including being more concerned and diligent at home), President Clark said, Heavenly Father will bless you with the powers of heaven; with the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit; with the watchful care of His angels; and, indeed, with all that He has. You will be a priesthood leader.
ummmm! tell me which of the prophets has only one wife sealed to them, and please explain why section 132 is still part of your scriptures D&C. Now be honest
While Bill Clinton also condemned polygamy and its prior practice by his Mormon church when campaigning to be president and targeting women votes, his great-grandfather had five wives and at least one of his great-great grandfathers had 12.
honkite eurotrash and imperialist honkee squatters should be deported back to the caves in Europe from whence they came !!! end birthright US citizenship ... restore anahuac .. land of people who have been here 40,000 before the coming of the virully infected european ... cohabitation and polygamy with farm animals should not be a burden that native Americans should have to bear witness to.
I testify with every fibre of my being that Joseph Smith used polygamy as an excuse for his adultery and child abuse. By their fruits shall ye know them, Today thousands of women and children suffer abuse in mormon sects and all because of one man's wickedness- Joseph Smith. God and Jesus would not ever teach this. Warren Jeffs the FLDS prophet in prison for child abuse is a living example of what Smith did to all those 14 year old girls using threats and fear. -T. Compton In sacred loneliness
@omiolo at it again. Omiolo, Denial of Polygamist doctrine while still couched in LDS temple ordinances is the deception. The one lying here is you. The devil is what you talk about. the practice of deceit and lying would have to belong to >
@kramd1 if you have PROOF of polygamy being practiced among Mormons. please give it over to authorities. If NOT please continue to spout your innuendos and half truths!
@Hyrumfyrum Riley said he agrees with King Benjamin, a Book of Mormon prophet, who said, “Behold, I say unto you that because I said unto you that I had spent my days in your service, I do not desire to boast, for I have only been in the service of God. And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”
Mormons have and will again practice polygamy. Any serious Mormon knows this. The Polygamy revelation is an unaltered document. The Mormon Hierarchy actively promoted polygamy into at least 1915, some 25 yrs after the "Suspension" I've posted this legal proof. Joseph F Smith was a Polygamist in 1905 when he wrote "Blood Atonement and the Origin of Polygamy". (posted). So, Polygamy is alive and well, though "sleeping".. There are sealings' and such today.
"Before I left Europe I warned how Communists were using the Civil Rights movement to promote revolution and eventual takeover of THIS country. When are we going to wake up? WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DANGEROUS CIVIL RIGHTS AGITATION IN MISSISSIPPI? Do you fear the destruction of all vestiges of state government?"
(Ezra Taft Benson, General Conference, April 1965.)
This is less than a year after "communist agitators" Schwerner, Chaney and Goodman were murdered in Mississippi.
LOGAN, UTAH—Former agriculture secretary Ezra Taft Benson charged Friday night that the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT in the South had been 'FOMENTED ALMOST ENTIRELY BY THE COMMUNISTS.' Elder Benson, a member of the Council of the Twelve of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said in a speech at a public meeting here that the WHOLE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT WAS 'PHONY.'...
(Deseret News, December 14, 1963).
omiolo would have people believe that all this is a forgery. It's not.
John Taylor, third President of the Mormon Church, had this to say concerning the abolitionist Horace Greeley after Greeley visited Utah:
... I WOULD NOT TALK TO HIM: I FELT MYSELF SUPERIOR TO SUCH A MEAN CONTEMPTIBLE CUR. I knew he was not after truth, but falsehood. Greeley... supports the stealing of NIGGERS and the underground railroad....he is one of the prominent newspaper editors in the Eastern country, and he is a POOR, MISERABLE CURSE. (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 5, page 119)
They're curious about my beliefs. There's about eight of us on the team who are LDS. My teammates wonder about being LDS and being old. I'm about the oldest guy on the team."
"They always ask what it was like, if it was worth it going on a mission, leaving two years and having to start over," said Nau, who served in the Panama Panama City mission and hails from Spanish Fork, Utah. "I always tell them that I don't regret going on a mission and that it was one of the best things I've ever done.
George P Lee, and Joseph Smith, Both Mormon leaders, both pedophiles. mormon church and the catholic church have a lot in common. Pedophiles abound. I would not let my kids talk to any of their gay missionaries either. Watch the movie, 'Latter Days' all about gay mormons!
@mdlinks OH MY GOSH! YO FREAKING IDIOT!!!! You can't just watch movies and immediately think it's true!! It's funny really, you bash this religion, when Mormons have done NOTHING to you. You people are so quick to believe anything, and you say Mormons twist words, when YOU believe every rumor that comes your way. Disgusting.
The idea is to build people and have them become as self-reliant and self-sufficient as possible, said Elder Carmack.
Reports indicate that already more than 10 percent of the Churchs local ecclesiastical leaders from Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela are graduates of the program. President Monson has said the PEF effort is expanding and that those young people are finding jobs and theyre able to repay the loans. The Perpetual Education Fund is a miracle that will go far into the future.
A young man in Mexico City who studied to become a dental technician said, My promise upon finishing my studies at the technical school with the help of the Perpetual Education Fund is to repay the loan so that other returned missionaries can enjoy these blessings.
Its this reciprocal nature of the program that Elder Carmack says helps build future leaders.
Word-for-word translations sometimes yield nonsense or even humorous results. If we translated the German word "Kindergarten" literally into English, for example, we would get "child garden" rather than the intended meaning of a school that precedes first grade.
(1) Many words do not have an exact word-for-word translation from one language to another. For instance, I understand that the Japanese language has no word which simply means "brother." Instead, there are different words for "older brother" and "younger brother." This presents an interesting problem when translating the "brother of Jared" into Japanese. Many other such examples could be found.
Indeed, training defined much of their tour. Brother Osguthorpe said the basic principles of his instruction in Africa were no different than what he would teach an audience of teachers in, say, Draper, Utah: "My purpose is to help gospel learning and teaching and help Sunday School leaders improve their work."
Do the basic instructions in Africa include Mark E. Peterson's inspired teachings that:"[The] negro, who, in the pre-existence lived the type of life which justified the Lord in sending him to the earth in the lineage of Cain with a BLACK SKIN, and possibly being born in darkest Africa—if that negro is willing when he hears the gospel to accept it, he may have many of the blessings of the gospel...He will go there AS A SERVANT, but he will get celestial glory.
we do NOT know who forged them. More than likely the ANTImormon that one day posted them on the INTERNET and said they got the speech from BYU. However, BYU does NOT have a copy of such a speech and NEVER has.
All they produced is a type written paper and said it was Mark E Peterson's talk.
Of course you bit it like an ANTImormon to unhappiness!
omiolo, you are making up stuff here. The LDS Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research admits that Peterson gave this speech. They refer to it as a speech given by Peterson at "...Brigham Young University on 27 August 1954 entitled "Race Problems—As They Affect the Church." Search their site.
Mormons like you do more damage to your cause than any so called"anti-Mormon". Remember in this day of the internet people can check your facts. Get them straight!
In fact, don't respond to me anymore. You are a damned idiot and I'm tired of talking to someone who would rather "lie for the Lord" than tell the truth.
"The area presidency was just wonderful with us," said Brother Beck.
Despite being newcomers to Africa, the general auxiliary leaders utilized language skills acquired during full-time missions in distant lands. Brother Osguthorpe spoke French in the Congo, while Brother Beck delivered his training in Mozambique in Portuguese.
They were accompanied in each country by members of the Africa Southeast Area Presidency, including Elder Paul E. Koelliker, Elder F. Michael Watson and Elder Dale G. Renlund, all of the Seventy.
Comparing the launching of a spacecraft to graduation, Elder Scott expressed the importance of this milestone in a person's life.

"This is the culmination of a tremendous combined effort of planning, training and hard work. It is likewise the beginning of a journey that will place its astronaut crew at their destination where they will fulfill their worthwhile assignments. When the mission is completed the spacecraft will facilitate their return with honor," he said.
"You are unique among graduating students in the world for having been schooled in this church university," he said. "Therefore, we expect of you future accomplishments far beyond those asked of a graduating class elsewhere. Your preparation here has provided an exceptional foundation for you to accomplish worthwhile ambitions and realize much good."
Yeah, Mormons are really into family. Just try to attend your son or daughters wedding if they are Mormons and you are not. You spend all your life raising them and provinding for them...giving them love. Then they convert to this "church" and you are shut out of their wedding. Strangers take your place as you stand outside the Mormon temple.
Mormonism: It's not about family...it's about what is best for the Mormon Church.
So a lifelong devout Catholic who's son converted to Mormonism simply needs to give up his beliefs, join the Mormon Church, wait a year, and THEN he can attend his son's wedding? What other Christian denomination would require this?
So they can keep the rosery, adoration of the Virgin Mary, the Pope, Mass, and all the other Catholic teachings and just ad your beliefs to it all. Wow!
If Mormons don't believe or practice polygamy (they still do spiritually like Dallin H. Oaks) why did Brigham Young say that the only men who become the sons of God are those who enter polygamy?
Furthermore, as a Mormon God how are you possibly going to sire 100 billion spirit children in the eternities without practicing polygamy? With 1 wife giving birth to a spirit child every 9 months, it would take 76,438,356,164 years!
omiolo, what the heck are you doing here? I like to say you bring joy on every page where comment but I know you do not. At the moment I am working on the treatment of women in WWII China, but I thought I"d make a round of what has been posted since the YFZ catastrophe which has only grown worse over time. Freedom means freedom and this Brother seems a little too unspecific about the terms of the Manifesto. Woodrow Woodruf was not called and appointed to be the prophet at this time.
And now, he imparteth his word by angels unto men, yea, not only men but women also. Now this is not all; little children do have words given unto them many times, which confound the wise and the learned (Alma 32:23).
There was a lesson to be learned, but it was I who learned it, not my son. When I returned Sunday night, Bossy had got to be all right.
This process is not reserved for the prophets alone. The gift of the Holy Ghost operates equally with men, women, and even little children. It is within this wondrous gift and power that the spiritual remedy to any problem can be found.
I copied the telephone number of the animal by-products company so my wife could call them to come and get the cow as soon as she died.
Before I left, we had our family prayer. Our little boy said our prayer. After he had asked Heavenly Father to bless Daddy in his travels and bless us all, he then started an earnest plea. He said, Heavenly Father, please bless Bossy cow so that she will get to be all right.
. But the cow was expecting a calf and in trouble. The calf was born, but the cow could not get up. We called the veterinarian, who soon came. He said the cow had swallowed a wire and would not live through the day.
When I was first called as a General Authority nearly 50 years ago, we lived on a very small plot of ground in Utah Valley that we called our farm. We had a cow and a horse and chickens and lots of children.
One Saturday, I was to drive to the airport for a flight to a stake conference in California
Not more than 30 minutes later, a whirlwind caught the tree to which his mules had been tied and broke it off at the ground. It was carried 100 yards (90 m) through two fences. The enormous tree, which had a trunk five feet (1.5 m) in circumference, fell exactly upon the spot where his carriage had been parked. By listening to the promptings of the Spirit, Elder Woodruff had saved his life and the lives of his wife and child
As he was returning to bed, the Spirit spoke to him again: Go and move your mules away from that oak tree. He did this and then retired once again to bed.
He stopped at the home of one of the brethren in Indiana and put his carriage in the yard, where he and his wife and one child went to bed while the rest of the family slept in the house. Shortly after he had retired for the night, the Spirit whispered, warning him, Get up, and move your carriage. He got up and moved the carriage a distance from where it had stood.
President Woodruff told of an experience of being prompted by the Spirit. He was sent by the First Presidency to gather all the Saints of God in New England and Canada and bring them to Zion
I served for many years in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles with Elder LeGrand Richards. He died at the age of 96. He told us that as a boy of 12 he attended a great general conference in the Tabernacle. There he heard President Wilford Woodruff.
It was not in any way discontinued in 1890 and I have posted absolute proof of even "Polygamy Caves" in the Grand Canyon in 1912.("Kawiche's Gold Mine, 1914, Joshia Gibbs) I have also posted legal text: transcripts for RN Baskin, "Reminiscences of Early Utah", 1914. Baskin might best be remembered as the Prosecutor of John D Lee and the author of many laws to outlaw polygamy:: He became rather upset when Brigham Young had Baskins friend Dr Robertson murdered so Briggy could have what Dr R owned.
And don't forget the fact that Joseph F. Smith was convicted of violating Utah's anti-polygamy laws in 1906. If even the prophet of the church can't follow the church's rules, what good is he?
"Church rules" is just a vague word those guys would jump all over with in court:: rule, revelation, law, etc. They say or do anything................When Ballard says " Mormons place strong emphasis on the family...." he leaves out " "Controlling" the family"
SO no, members are not ""practicing" polygamy but a LDS man can be sealed to more than one LDS woman in the temple if the first wife dies. This is a fact. (yes, now a days!)
Many LDS men do this. Are you not aware? Dallin Oakes, Russel nelson, and an everyday member can do this. Read about this in the LDS handbook of instruction.
The LDS church of today DOES believe in polygamy in Heaven. :)
when a spouse dies and you marry another (your still married to your 1st wife), when you end you marriage and marry another you still have to take care of your 1st. wife and kids,(By court of law its required!)
not all countries prohibit plural marriage (that would be Africa and Arab nations)
so even if we don't pratice what ever we do we still pratice the concept ! (EVERY one pratices a form of plural marriage ) Just nobody thinks of it this way.
Even though there are cultural or language differences, these young people found common goals and beliefs reassuring. And they often maintain these connections on the social networking sites, so the relationships continue over the distances.

@going4truth

Only MEN would think up and create something as assinine as polygamy.
It HAS to be the most rediculous of the MANY anal retentive aspects of Mormonism--past OR present.
The ONLY time it may have made some sense would have been if God had given Adam a few hundred wives--or Noah. It's a dead end deal in every culture.
There are 2 places in the BoM that speak truth on this. They are at Jacob 1:15 and Jacob 2:24. Read it and weep!
42apostate 10 months ago
Abraham had two wives and was a prophet of God. Polygamy was not given as the reason for Hagar’s problems in Gal 4:22-23. Jacob had four wives and they had twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. God appeared to Jacob at Luz and said to him: “I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee.” Perhaps the greatest part of this blessing came through Joseph and his sons Ephraim and Manasseh. Joseph who was sold into Egypt was the son of Jacob and his beloved second wife Rachel. (Gen 48:3-5)

Latter-day Saints have not practiced polyamy since 1890.
mtolympus1 1 year ago 2
@mtolympus1
Polygamy was always a mistake in God's eyes.
rodwyr 11 months ago
@mtolympus1
Well, yer wrong.
42apostate 10 months ago
@mtolympus1

Ballard is a liar.

@omiolo The bible warms us not to blindly follow anyone who claims to be a prophet but no Mormon will question anything they are taught. When confronted with a discrepancy between the bible and BOM (or a prophet), instead of questioning the prophet it's the bible that is "mistranslated". But no use arguing about it, Nothing is more important to a Mormon than "the church", not even God. The truth is out there, you just have to want to find it, and most LDS don't want to, so they blindly follow.

@Ingle92protege "practices polygamy spiritually"
there is NO such thing as spiritual polygamy. Marriage is done on earth and sanctioned by the state. Nice try though! If you have PROOF of anyone practicing polygamy, especially in the LDS Church, you can go to the press and they will have a field day with, because polygamy is ILLEGAL!
omiolo 1 year ago

If NOT you might want to take a course in HONESTY, since it seems to be lacking on your part!
omiolo 1 year ago

Rearing children in love and righteousness is an act of faith.
omiolo 1 year ago

The idea is to build people and have them become as self-reliant and self-sufficient as possible, said Elder Carmack.

Word-for-word translations sometimes yield nonsense or even humorous results. If we translated the German word "Kindergarten" literally into English, for example, we would get "child garden" rather than the intended meaning of a school that precedes first grade.
omiolo 2 years ago
(1) Many words do not have an exact word-for-word translation from one language to another. For instance, I understand that the Japanese language has no word which simply means "brother." Instead, there are different words for "older brother" and "younger brother." This presents an interesting problem when translating the "brother of Jared" into Japanese. Many other such examples could be found.

Indeed, training defined much of their tour. Yeah, Mormons are really into family. Just try to attend your son or daughters wedding if they are Mormons and you are not.

beachlady78 2 years ago
Besides there's more than one way .
when a spouse dies and you marry another (your still married to your 1st wife), when you end you marriage and marry another you still have to take care of your 1st. wife and kids,(By court of law its required!)
not all countries prohibit plural marriage (that would be Africa and Arab nations)
so even if we don't pratice what ever we do we still pratice the concept ! (EVERY one pratices a form of plural marriage ) Just nobody thinks of it this way.
rbvmtr 2 years ago
That's right.
There's African & Arab nations that allow polygamy.
That should tell you something ....That it's only allowed in nations where women have few rights & are subjugated to men.
BTW Divorce is the opposite of polygamy! It's DISSOLVING a marriage, not CREATING one.
And a man has to provide for his kids, even if he NEVER married the mother.
That proves nothing.
Besides, an ex-wife gets her settlement, even if she re-marries.She gets her money & then she's FREE. Unlike a plural wife.
