@TheAudivisioner Interestingly enough, the average temperature during July 1971 in San Francisco was 62.68 degrees — a low that hasn't been reached since. This album was released in November of 1971.
I think the music world forgets what a musical genius Sylvester Steward was and is. The bass licks that Larry Graham laid down in this joint could stand up and even surpass any bass-tracks I've heard over the years...damn!
And reviewers say this album is depressing it is funky more then depressing but gritty i won't lie is true about this album and what they said about this album!
You canhear the origins of two artists inthis pice...Prince and D'angelo...D'Angelo in the vocals and rhtymic texture...Prince in the vocals and funky guitar harmony
"it's like listening to Sly's self destruction" jody808...don't know about that. He wasn't finished yet at this album...was still on top...still had a few concert no shows and some more self destruction to go..it would still take a few years from here. "Stand" was probably his best and most celebrated album but this one is my favorite. As you can hear he was high throughout it but me and the folks i was with were too high ourselves to be alarmed about it yet. It touched our mood at the time
great album, it was out of print for so long so i took me a few years to track down, it has it's moments but it's like listening to Sly's self destruction
