  • Ok, sparkyUonline, answer these:

No sleeving on your protective conductor?

Metal staples on mains voltage cables?

    Twist on wire nuts?

Stanley knife to strip outer sheath?

Numerous non compliances to BS7671 (UK wiring regs).

  • @Techozek In compliance w/ National Electrical Code for the U.S. .

Razor knife could be over doing it a tad? If any one knows the exact code that says you should not use a rzor knife let me know.

    Thanks for posting

  • @sparkyUonline

Well, there isn't a regulation for that probably, but I mean in terms of good practice and not risking cutting inner conductor insulation. I understand US and UK have different practices.

Do you guys ever use the method of taking side cutters, cutting vertically down the end of the cable, and using the CPC as a "cheese wire" to slice open the sheath by pulling it down the length of the cable?

That is the method we use. No risk of damage to inner conductor insulation.

  • @sparkyUonline i have a romex stripper but i prefer a razor knife, as long as you are careful it's fine if you ask me.

  • @ibeleaf I have never owned a pair of romex strippers and also have never had a short from using a knife.

  • @sparkyUonline i have that L shaped single folded piece of metal one wit the triangle slicer and stripping holes. i've used it once to try it and it's been buried in my toolbag since.

  • Cool !

  • @tomatnite Thanks

  • do you strip wire funny because you're making a video, or am i weird, i strip wire away from myself.

  • @ibeleaf It all depends on my conditions.

  • sparky don't stop making videos, i watch shit i already know how to do just because i like your videos, and for some reason i like my job too much.

  • @ibeleaf Thanks bud,I am not going to stop making videos any time soon. I've been real busy at work. Try to fit them in when I have "spare" time.

    Sparky

  • That is the absolute worst technique for stripping NM wire. I can't tell you how many times I repaired nicked or sliced insulation on the conductors.

All you have to do is slice about 1 or 2 inches at the end of the wire and pull the sheathing up simple.

  • @SkilledEddie Thanks for your input, perhaps I shouldn't show advanced skills? I think the worst is when a person uses their strippers to cut the sheath and then pull off.

  • i use both depends if im doing a serise or one receptical

  • Hey sparku How long to layout, box, pull in homeruns, rough in wire outlets, lights.whats your methed wireing new houses .im looking to improve my production time on wiring new houses.im finding two story houses kind of headache .wiring lighting over two story open living rms. Like swinging off hi bars.what easy way to drill/pull through corners I like to compare notes

  • @albduke1 Time varies from job to job, there are many ways to increase productivity wiring homes. Useing a story pole to set boxes, string and a roll of tape to run long runs across rafters,layout/design,tooling up for each step, and having all the materials on hand so you don't have to stop a section and go back later.

As far as the corners, when pulling feed from the farthest end of the run first.

  • Hey Sparky, thanks for taking the time to make this. Its always nice to see how a professional addresses even the simpler of tasks. Almost identical to the way I make up my box as well, so I know I'm on a good path. Always look forward to your videos buddy, cheers.

  • you should get the romex strippers it makes it go alot faster and you only need the one tool instead of a knife and stripper

  • Can't believe you suicide tap the neutrals sparky.. I'm a journeyman and I always twist solid wire together

  • @sbales63 i was gonna ask the same thing. is it a code issue or just a preference wheather or not you twist the wires? love the videos though sparky.

  • Damn, you can really see you have done that once or twice before ;P

Very nice video, and I love your way of marking the switch leg by putting a loop on it. - Something I'll implement when I'm licensed, and will fight to make my fellow sparkies do aswell =P
