People need more power to use a huge touch screen. Because mouse can do lot better if you use a huge monitor for touch. You have to move you hand all over the screen which is not a problem for hand held device. But for this, I don't think its gonna work. It will be a flop to Android and iOS

It isn't designed specifically for Tablets. It has the functionality for tablets, so Microsoft didn't have to go through and make a standalone OS for each device. Mouse and keyboard will work as normal, and gestures (a guess) are more than likely enabled/disabled through the Control Panel. This is nothing like XP to Vista. That was a completely different interface. Vista to W7 was awesome, they improved on what Vista was lacking. I'd imagine the same from W7 to W8.

Its a good marketing idea but not good for the consumer. It is too much change, too soon. I invested in a top of the line laptop years ago running Vista and have had no problems. Performance isn't an issue for me (except for gaming graphics but then again what can you do its a laptop). I was going to "simplify" and upgrade to W7 but I never did. Now I knew it was too late anyway because MS was just going to come out with something to make that outdated.

@canuck21 keyboard and mouse are included with every computer basically, its just the screen that is touch screen. you arent forced to use the touch screen you know haha :)

By the time people moved to 7, those driver and software issues had been resolved. So naturally, it was a better experience.
However, Vista did have a few legitimate problems that were fixed in 7. Most of the differences are to the underlying system. The user experience didn't change a whole lot.

People only see the touch interface. The full release of Windows 8 will have a Windows 7 mode that is gonna work just like Windows 7. The overall change would be that Windows 8 is more stable and has higher optimalization for newer hardware.
I'm definatly looking forward to the full version of Windows 8.

It is nothing but a tablet OS. It seems all of the OS or WM or DE are moving to a tablet style interface. Laziness, mostly. They want one size fits all but I think they will find it's a bad move. I doubt any business is asking for this type of interface. I mean who is asking for it? Are we complaining about how our computers work? i HATE the idea of a tablet like interface on a desktop OS. Sure have it there and have the ability to turn it on for tablet or touch screen devices but you should be able to turn it off completely and revert to the windows 7 look and feel. That is why windows 8 is a no-go for me, if i buy a device that comes with windows 8 and its not touch or is a desktop then its coming STRAIGHT off and is being replaced with windows 7 or xp or linux.

i HATE the idea of a tablet like interface on a desktop OS. Sure have it there and have the ability to turn it on for tablet or touch screen devices but you should be able to turn it off completely and revert to the windows 7 look and feel. That is why windows 8 is a no-go for me, if i buy a device that comes with windows 8 and its not touch or is a desktop then its coming STRAIGHT off and is being replaced with windows 7 or xp or linux.

@ImRecordingThis This is just the metro UI which will probably be used only on tablets and touch screen devices. Win8 looks just like Win7, normal desktop with taskbar and icons
