If Green Day's fanbase was Rancid's fanbase had similar fans in the 90s and some listened to Blink 182, it's fine. Thanks but I don't like making Dookie sound overrated. They had many good albums. Their new music is okay.. there are some that sound a little too friendly and they ARE too friendly with the media nowadays. Honestly, Green Day's the first band I've ever seen with sponsors shown in the corner of your TV when they do interviews.. It's there lifestyle that has changed. Their music may still be okay, it's just.. notice how they're more exposed to MTV.

If Rancid saw you saying that they'd beat the hell out of you. Billie Joe was a good friend of Rancid and wanted to actually be in the band. Tim didn't allow him because he new Green Day would grow big - and they did. Look at Rancid's song, Radio. Billie Joe originally played Lars' guitar parts in that song.

Yeah man. Then when you let them listen to a Social D song, they'd be like, straight-faced. Some people just prefer the best quality out there and the music that's in. It's disappointing to see people act punk and wear punk though they only buy their accessories from a special girl store. I myself don't buy bracelets from shops in malls. If Green Day's fanbase was Rancid's fanbase had similar fans in the 90s and some listened to Blink 182, it's fine. The other thing is, knowing that Green Day later on was able to get a larger fanbase with fans outside their category because of their new music and exposure, it just doesn't make it look like they were trying to be theirselves anymore. Oh well, they got successful anyways.

I partly agree with you on that. I do agree that they don't really try to be themselves anymore and people would say that they've "sold out" and that I don't like because I think their new music is crap. However, I still think people should listen to whatever they wanna listen to and no one should try and classify punk. Yeah. I really try to avoid thinking that punk has to be categorized but if we just categorize the band itself - they really do belong with someone. The music may not be categorized but the band can be. As well as the fans. But there are a lot of different people out there.

The arguments that ensue after watching these videos are unnecessary .... People try to define "Punk" and its meaning, when its a touchy subject. They don't realize that punk isn't just about declaring your individuality and creativity. It's about doing it together. Punk is a community, not solely a style. Yeah maybe. The idea about it is great but like you said, many people stopped with 'attacking Bush' 'cause they wanted to get on the playlist. That's the complete opposite of punk. If you don't wanna fight Bush and just get on the playlist, then don't be punk.

Thanks but I don't like making Dookie sound overrated. They had many good albums. Their new music is okay.. there are some that sound a little too friendly and they ARE too friendly with the media nowadays. Honestly, Green Day's the first band I've ever seen with sponsors shown in the corner of your TV when they do interviews.. It's there lifestyle that has changed. Their music may still be okay, it's just.. notice how they're more exposed to MTV.

You could say the early stuff was targeted to that but most were to one girl only. They had the punk lifestyle and attitude though some of their music were directed to drugs or to hate. Imagine, bands nowadays are labeled punk for having a line in their songs saying 'I rebelled from my dad'. But Green Day actually forced their ticket prices to 7 bucks going against their whole agency. They turned down requests by MTV and insulted their companies.

If Rancid saw you saying that they'd beat the hell out of you. Billie Joe was a good friend of Rancid and wanted to actually be in the band. Tim didn't allow him because he new Green Day would grow big - and they did. Look at Rancid's song, Radio. Billie Joe originally played Lars' guitar parts in that song.

They are a punk band, to release an album saying how much you despise the country your from and hate the way its led is PUNK. Rancid and green day are friends, b4 Lars joined Tim asked Billie Joe to be in Rancid. But Billie joe and Tim agreed that it would be best if Billie focused on Green day because of popular they were becoming.
People need to let it go and just accept that Green day are punk and that rancid are friends with them.
