Untrue. Mary and Betty were actually very close personal friends for decades -- and as far as I know, still are. In fact, when Mary was married to Grant Tinker, she, Grant, Betty, and Betty's husband Allen Ludden went out to dinner together nearly every week, and also went on numerous vacations together. Mary probably spent more personal time with Betty White than she did with any other member of the MTM cast.
