Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! KoL have been one of my favourite bands since I was 14. I'm now 20, and really hope I get to meet them too. They're going to be coming to Australia in two months..fingers crossed
@Rorix9 I think that's why Nathan got us back stage passes the next time they came to town. Possibly because of my prediction. I did call it though, huh! =)
@bossyboo29 You sure did...and I am so very jealous. Since my freshman year in high school, Modest Mouse was my favorite band, hands down. When "Because of Times" came out, I was hooked. I was so impressed...but it was only one album. I then back-tracked to "Youth and Young Manhood". I was even more impressed/intruiged. By the release of the "Come Around Sundown", KOL overtook MM in my favorite band. They are a modern day Led Zeppelin. The chemistry, artistry, emotion, etc. is phenomenal
@CORRIGEEN71 In fact, yes I am... As will you and everyone else on the face of the earth seeing as we're all born with a death sentence over our heads. But it was pretty cool though.
@mcmahon24242 I seriously hope you also get the chance. No better rush in my life then to meet Caleb and Nathan.. And Nathans generosity was so amazing, I still can't believe how cool that was of him to do that for my son and I.. Here's to the best band in the world!!!
@Milaan222 lol. that's one way of putting it. yea, I was about 15 or 16 when he came to play at the Ventura fairgrounds, where I used to live. for what it's worth, I hope some of that luck rubs off on you. if I could just win the lottery, then I'd really consider myself lucky. But I'm not complaining... Thanks!!! =D
great story. these guys are most definitely one of the greatest bands in the world. from genius or wasted time to manhattan or true love way. the best! have fun
I truly hope you do too. It was the best interaction I've ever had with anybody famous. And we used to live in Hollywood and met all kinds of actors and musicians but they'd always have an air about themselves. Not these guys. The most real unaffected down to earth people you could ever meet. And that's RARE when dealing with most famous people. I'm sure they'll stay that way because they've been rockin big time for 10 years. I'm forever thankful to them for that. KOL rocks n rules all the way!
I think the picture came out perfect. You guys will never forget that--ESPECIALLY your son =] I met my favorite band a few years ago and all I could think to myself was "Please don't say anything stupid, please don't do anything stupid..." It's always crazy to be standing face to face...congrats!
Thanks alot. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. You have no idea how right you are. Those guys were so much more down to earth than I ever imagined they'd be. I'm still so grateful to both of them for taking the time for my son and I. Especially Nathan. He truly took the time to just sit and talk. Didn't try to act too cool. Acted like a regular guy and treated us like anybody else you'd happen to meet and chat with. It actually brought my son and I closer too. I'm grateful to them for that!
agreed. best band in the world today! saw them in hamilton, ontario and it was great. i bought their live dvd the day it came out and have watched it so many times
I've seen em a few times. Each time they give 150% on stage. I've met a few people who say they don't like em. I ask if they've heard all of their albums and they all say no. I play their other stuff on my iPod from Youth And Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because Of The Times and then they have a new appreciation for them. In my opinion they don't have one bad song in their entire musical catalog. Few bands (if any) can say that. KOL rock n rule!!! Their live DVD IS awesome! R&R Ben!
Very cool story. I'm so glad to hear that you and your son got to meet half of your favorite band. It's such a great experience to meet musicians that you admire musically, but who are also straight up gentlemen (or women).
Straight up gentlemen is right Van. Couldn't have met a classier bunch of rockers if I'd looked high or low. There's not one song of theirs that I don't like. There all #1 hits in my opinion. But that's just my opinion. As I've said before, I think their folks raised em right. To take the kind of time they do for their fans is unheard of. Ever... Thanks bro. KOL rocks n rules!
I love them too. I'm your age. Why is it our generation is so much cooler than our parents' were at our age? I can never remember talking music with my parents the way my boys and I do. Anyway....very nice story. It's great to know that a band that you respect so much musically, are also really nice people.
I agree. Ever since the Beatles came on the scene, it was all a whole new ball game. The cool thing about Kings Of Leon is that their brand of rock n roll is timeless. It could have been a success in the 60, 70, 80, 90 & today. And like you said, they couldn't be a nicer group of guys...
It was nice to meet you! Just kidding, my names Caleb too lol.Well anyways very cool video. The Kings have been one of my biggest influences as of late. From everything I have seen, these guys are very, very humble and down to earth. I've never seen them or met them, but I would really like to go to a show someday soon. Guster is a band which i have met, which are semi-famous. They were very humble, and just, well, real people. Take it easy!
Hello again Caleb! LOL. Yea, my son and I were extremely lucky to have just bumped into them. I don't know if you saw but if you look under "Kings Of Leon Lightning Strikes Twice" you'll see that they were so cool they they remembered my son and I and got us back stage passes for the last concert this year, about a month ago. Seeing as Caleb was sick, Nathan came back stage and met with us. Your right. Very humble and down to earth rockers you could ever meet. They rock n rule!
Very cool! I definitely want to see them tour. I am glad the new fame in the states hasn't gone to their head. Anyway I'm gonna cover one of their songs soon and throw it up on here. Keep in touch!
Very cool! Please let me know when you've posted your cover of one of their songs. I'm definitely wanting to hear how it sounds. Totally awesome. Again, please don't forget to let me know so I can check it out. Much appreciated...
They definitely have to be the most generous people with their time, not to mention being the best band in the world. (in my opinion) They really are musical geniuses and as you said, genuine and down to earth. If you think about it, most regular people aren't as nice as them. But to be one of the greatest bands in the world and you still make time for people, it goes to show how classy they are. Imagine if everyone were like that? How cool would the world be? Their folks raised them right...
I've met them like that too, after a show i met them at a bar, they were so awesome, nice & gave me & my friends... autographs. we were all drinking together : )
Too cool. They are very friendly to their fans. I once read that their hometown leave them alone. I'm glad that they have a place where they can go out and about without being bothered. That way, they seem to be able to extremely giving and friendly to their fans. Especially Nathan. He seems to be so laid back that all the fame seems to just roll off his back. He reminds me of alot of my old friends. Only difference is he's a famous rocker and they're not. LOL...
I didn't stick around and see if they came out or anything. We got there early and were right up front and center! The concert was fantastic, no surprise there. I took some video, which I will put up sometime this weekend. I hope you and your son have a great time on Monday. Let me know how it goes!
Amanda, well, your not gonna believe this but we did get to meet them again. If you go to: Kings Of Leon Lightning Strikes Twice, you'll see video this time of my sons and I with Nathan. They have to be the nicest bunch of rockers in the world. I thought it was cool to have met them once. But twice? I'm on my way down to my local store to buy some lottery tickets. LOL. Seriously though, you don't read one bad thing about them except for the haters. But you can't make the haters happy...
Great story! I love this band. I met them after a show last fall and they were so kind. I'll be seeing them again on the 22nd. I can't wait to see a show in a huge venue, even though I'll miss the smaller ones.
Sorry Amanda, I didn't see your letter until today. So you got lucky and met them too? They are some of the most down to earth rockers in the world. Really cool. You must have seen them last night. How was the show? Did lightning happen to strike twice? I wish I'd seen this before. We are going to see them on Monday. Hoping lighting strikes twice with us. Regardless, we both belong to a rare club of people who happen to have met the greatest R&R band in the world. Rock on!!!
dude i did the same thing with the camera...when me and my buddy went to the the black keys we saw dan auerbach of the band comming from the mall across the street from the venue when before we were in the same mall and bought a disposable camera but we were so baffled we forgot we bought it . i felt so dumb hahah
why is it that when us regular folks meet our favorite bands or stars, our minds seem to turn to mush and everything we meant to do or wanted to do fly's out the window and we turn into a quivering bowl of jello? I guess it's just a human flaw that we all share. LOL. I've even heard of stars getting star struck themselves. What's up with that? =D BTW, Auerbach is coming to our home town of Mpls in Dec. Gonna try and remember I have a camera if we bump into him too... LOL
yea, I'm surprised that Auerbach is coming to Mpls without Carney. What's the deal. Is he gonna be a one man band or is he having some hired guns backing him up? Regardless, I've got my trusty camera ready for a quick draw. LOL. If I get him on video, I'll post it for ya. Cross your fingers for us...
Ya I heard these guy's on the radio and said, "who is this?" he had that smokey blues kind of voice, and then I listened to their old stuff and WOW! Im a born again believer so I really watch the lirics, I havent heard anything dark yet
They have a few off color lyrics. but I think it was when they were singing about some of the preachers that were into for all the wrong reasons. bedding married woman. given their upbringing, they've seen it all. the bad with the good I suppose. But pound for pound, I think they're the best thing musically today. At least in my opinion that is...
The amazing thing about them is their back story. I don't know if you're familiar with it but their dad didn't let them listen to R&R or TV while growing up He was a Pentecostal minister. The only music they knew was what they played in church. I assume thats what made all their music so great. Because they didn't have any influences during their formative years.BTW I'm Christian and like your YouTube favorites. The 9 part series of creation by the former atheist scientist is great! No joke.
I once had back stage passes fr Gun's & Roses and met Axel Rose. Biggest ass hole I ever met. But Nathan and Caleb were just regular guys. Even if they weren't a band, they're the kind of guys you could sit and have a beer with. No R&R pretensions about them. Just regular folk like you & me. So you cried and didn't want to leave? I don't blame you. They put on the best show I ever saw. And I saw Led Zeppelin back in 73 at the LA forum. KOL won by a red cunt hair. But Handcuffs? LOL!
You and me both. They're coming back on September 28th. I'm hoping lighting strikes twice and we get to hang out with them again. Fat chance but sometime life is stranger than fiction. Keeping my fingers crossed though. Wish us luck. I just may bring handcuffs if it brings me luck. But if they see those, they'll probably think I'm a fanatic, wanting to kidnap one of the band members.Come to think of it, I'd better leave the cuffs at home... =D
It was not only my pleasure to talk about it but even more, it was SOOOOO kewl to meet KOL with my son. Coolest band and guys I've ever met. We are going to see them again in September. I just hope that we get crazy lucky and meet them again. I'm just hoping we're that lucky! Now that would be kewl. Keep ya posted if we do...
yeah I will also be checking them out in Houston; I hope I am fortunate enought to meet them. keep your fingers cross for me. I will keep mine crossed for you and your son again.
Thanks for crossing your fingers for us cillian. Seems like it worked for us.. Hope you had a great time when you saw them in Houston. But if you did go, I know you had a great time. Hope you got to meet them too. BTW, sorry about the delay. For some reason, I didn't see your post until just now...
I noticed you have quite an eclectic range of favorite videos. When I saw The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony, I realized that's one of the songs I've been meaning to put on my i-pod. Anyway, I dig so many of your favorites that I hope you don't mind if I steal many of them for my own? Awesome collection...
Dear janinaszymankiewicz, Thank you for the kind words. I was not only surprised to find them so nice but am so thankful to them for making a memory for my son and I that we will remember and treasure for the rest of our lives. When I think about it, their kindness is unmatched to anyother band I've ever met in my life. My son is my best friend and who better to share such a wonderful story...
<----- is SOOO jealous!!! if I could choose a way to interactwith kol it would be in some little dive bar just hanging out and being real people maybe play some foosball lol. I'm so happy for you that you got to meet them, sounds like it made not only your day but your whole freakin year!!
Courtney, Only met Nathan and Caleb but you couldn't have met 2 of the most down to earth people in the world. Got that right! Made both our year! That and then some. Was Nov 1st and we're still flying high!!! :D
Chanceie12, They made our day, our year and it's something that my son and I will always be grateful to Nathan and Caleb for. Being so cool to us. No airs, not precocious. They were both 2 of the most regular guys you'd ever want to meet. Didn't see Matt or Jared. They were in their bus. Didn't talk to Caleb as much as Nathan but they were both very normal, cool and down to earth guys. Took time just to shoot the bull with me and my son. Especially Nathan. And for that we'll always be grateful.
Thanks luvcf. I did change the story a bit because I didn't want Nathan angry with me. He gave us the tickets because my son and I tried to buy tickest but they were sold out. When I saw Nathan, I asked him if I were to pay him the going rate, could my son and I carry some gear so we could get in. He laughed, got on the phone and called in free ones for us. I didn't want him getting pissed at me, telling the world he gave us free tickets so I changed it a bit so eveyone wouldn't ask ...
what's happenin bossyboo, obviously you are one of kol's biggest fans but i wanted to get your take on another great american band the strokes, what do you think of them? BTW,that u2 song you love sunday bloody sunday is about my hometown derry(doire in irish).
oh yah man Auerbach has a solo album out now called KEEP IT HID and his backing band is Hacienda And Patrick Hallahan from MY Morning Jacket....THey Called Dan Auerbach and The Fast Five
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! KoL have been one of my favourite bands since I was 14. I'm now 20, and really hope I get to meet them too. They're going to be coming to Australia in two months..fingers crossed

RadioRhi007,
I once had back stage passes fr Gun's & Roses and met Axel Rose. LOL!

Yep, Handcuffs!
My Next Years Resolution Is To Meet Them For Myself :)
I Love Guns And Roses! I Thought Axl Rose Would Be Quite Cool. Apparently Not.
Haha! x

Thanks Benedettodongarra,
I noticed you have quite an eclectic range of favorite videos.

Courtney, Only met Nathan and Caleb but you couldn't have met 2 of the most down to earth people in the world. Got that right! Made both our year! That and then some. Was Nov 1st and we're still flying high!!! :D

KOL!!
brilliant story.
chanceie12 3 years ago
Chanceie12, They made our day, our year and it's something that my son and I will always be grateful to Nathan and Caleb for. Being so cool to us. No airs, not precocious. They were both 2 of the most regular guys you'd ever want to meet. Didn't see Matt or Jared. They were in their bus. Didn't talk to Caleb as much as Nathan but they were both very normal, cool and down to earth guys. Took time just to shoot the bull with me and my son. Especially Nathan. And for that we'll always be grateful.

Absolutely fantastic story!! :)
Totally agree with you on KoL being the best band in the world. Very cool vid!!
luvcf 3 years ago
Thanks luvcf. I did change the story a bit because I didn't want Nathan angry with me. He gave us the tickets because my son and I tried to buy tickest but they were sold out. When I saw Nathan, I asked him if I were to pay him the going rate, could my son and I carry some gear so we could get in. He laughed, got on the phone and called in free ones for us. I didn't want him getting pissed at me, telling the world he gave us free tickets so I changed it a bit so eveyone wouldn't ask ...
