@boogiebuddy01 Yea, they can sense the heart rate and that tells them a lot about the situation (at least when they're around us)......you watch the movie shark water? The most incredible shark movie I've ever seen and it's not a fictional movie - it's all real......amazing movie!
It''s called tonic immobility. It's when the shark's brain emits some sort of chemical that immobilizes it. The effect fades away after the shark is placed upright again.
@10samm10 I study psychology and I still think that that's a bold statement......It's not about brain size - it's about what the brain does.....I think squirrels have small brains but I'm pretty sure they exhibit emotion and some species exhibit extremely high levels of social networking......what I'm basically saying is that they may not feel what we feel, but they feel something, and how can we categorize what that is?
I tried this last summer when i was diving with reef sharks its a lot harder than it looks but i loved every second of it :) the first few nipped me (i was wearing chain mail so i was fine) but after a few tries i got it right, and it was amazing to have a beautiful white tip reef shark inches from my face in such a calm transe there are no words to describe the bliss you feel at one point i felt almost like i could feel the sharks heart beat it was amazing
Truly magical! Mike is one of the few man on earth who shows us the golden rule works literally on every living thing. Only the ignorant gets the bite!
well it's shark week and that means the only thing on the discovery channel and every other channel like animal planet"exc" will be all about shark attacks and bites and survivors of shark attacks, now that everyone is in the "JAWS mood" it's time to look at things like this. this man took a tiger shark "the most feared shark" the one in this video is a reef shark but in the same later in the show i saw the same done to a tiger shark but the point is. this show sharks in a different way
yea true Scbuababe20 but there are good wreck discovery/dive accident videos and stories on the net too. My favourite site is the myscubastory site. They have tonnes of real life dive stories and videos. Type myscubastory into google and its the first result
Saw the whole episode on Discovery Channel.... This is the most FANTASTIC thing i have seen.. EVER. I felt like i was there with Michael on this journey -from feelings of FEAR to the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment & Amazement... This accomplishment proves that thoughts & emotions are "picked up" & points out the sense of touch... how important it really is. When Fear is taken out of the equation, it opens up room for understanding.
I thought sharks need to swim to breathe. Seems a bit cruel, even to sharks, if doing that is against their will and makes them feel like they are suffocating.
@shaggylives33 There are some species (i think maybe only one) which can actually stay still and yet continue breathing, and i beleave that was one of those species since it was just lying on the floor
I'm going to assume that this was only possible due to his chain mail armor. The metal armor would cause a significant reaction to the sharks nose, which has a special organ that uses electrical signals to give it a "radar" of electrical impulses around ti (i.e. heartbeats, etc). If he were to approach a shark in human form (i.e. not covered in a conducive metal), then he would be lunch.
yes John09 but there are good sites about sharks on the net too. try the likesharks site. type likesharks into google and it should be the 4th or 5th result. the site has lots of different reports about shark attacks etc and info videos and pictures on each species
Sharks are very sensitive to electrical microcurrents. I wonder if this kind of "hypnotism" technique has anyting to do with it, seeing as the man covers and rubs the shark's nose, which is the antenna tip.
While the shark is in tonic immobility, it's brain releases a lot of endorfines, and it actually causes pleasure on the shark, that's why most sharks return to get "immobilized" again. So basically, he's a sharkwanker.

Tbh, I don't know the exact name of the program. It was just about Killer whales and Great white sharks. And them looking into how it was possible for an Orca to kill a Great White so effortlessly. I can't tell you what channel either tbh. Just one of the documentary channels on Sky. :)

tonic immobility is so cool and sence the sting Ray is a cousin of the shark they do the same thing when you turn them over. and did you see that cover came over the eye. they do that at the last second before they bite a pray so they don't get hit in the eye.
Amazing, how he got the shark to stand vertically, I've never known this could be possible, I wonder he uses same techniques to ride the fins of White Sharks
