Out of the box is something that is extraordinary and unusual. since when did the holding knife and killing scene become so out of the box? i thought the first photo is like crossing a different dimension and going to the real world that is out the box. 2nd the cheese was extraordinary since it represent the cheese are bigger than the people. Emphasize the people eating so much dairy these days.
True, the viewers might end up voting for the photographers rather than the photos. But I personally feel that there's a good reason the vote doesn't come down to the contestants in pretty much any show of this sort - just as the viewers might pick their favorite, don't you feel like the participants might choose to save the weaker link and make their path easier? Not accusing anyone, I love these guys, but it could happen.

Natalia is the best in the comp, Charlie has just completely copied someone else's concept :/ there's noting 'out of the box' or original about doing that at all. His images are bland in comparison to the Natalia's.
@SlappyHam There are very few "original" concepts. What the challenge called for was out of the box. Charlie's was out of the box, and very well done. Copying a concept isn't like photocopying a piece of paper. You do have to do a lot of work.

Ok watching the end of this round a listening to Jose I have to ask why did he even entered the competition. You can't come into this and not expect to put in a good amount of work and time. I feel it was his own fault he didn't set aside time for something like this. I also don't know how you can enter a photography competition of all things and not do studio work. You're setting yourself up to lose that way.
Jose photos always seem to have some sort of glitch or problem. After his comments really glad to see he is no longer involved in the competition. Hate it when people come off two face and don't man up. If you felt that way by week 4 you should have pulled out like some of the others.

every week you came out with different theme of challenge for the contestants.my point is if it's not too much for the judges, they should tell at the end of judging what could they have done if they were in the contest? it will be awesome if you let us know your ideas Kai.
@hezzart No some people like to say that the best way to do photography is with film. I hear that A LOT. With that logic the plate must have been far better than film. People completely disregard the fact that people were only limited to the technology of the time. If there's something better, naturally you will want to use that.
I saw him holding a medium format camera. Now I don't know if he uses medium format (or bigger) alot. But suppose he does. It definitely gives the photo's a different look. Different focal length, different perspective, different sensor size, the way things go out of focus is just not the same. Also the detail and resolution is insane.
Now look up the price of a phase 1, digital back for hasselblad etc................
@nikjeeeh You're right, medium format does give you a different look and the technical aspects are different. That's why sometimes people refer to 'the medium format look' when giving an opinion on for example a certain lens. The depth of field for an entire image gets shallower the larger the sensor is. Having said that, my medium-format camera's aren't of Hasselblad quality but still the negs look quite amazing.
@nikjeeeh If you're interested in a IMTP related medium-format shot, check out my 500px site (link in the description box). On there you'll see a shot for the 'erotica' episode (it's called 'we are alone.') that didn't make the deadline, I like it so much more than the fullframe negs I shot. And that one's not even shot at a sharper aperture, nor is it scanned with a high-quality scanner... just a reasonably-cheap flatbed negative scanner.

Ok watching the end of this round a listening to Jose I have to ask why did he even entered the competition. You can't come into this and not expect to put in a good amount of work and time. I feel it was his own fault he didn't set aside time for something like this. I also don't know how you can enter a photography competition of all things and not do studio work. You're setting yourself up to lose that way.

Jose photos always seem to have some sort of glitch or problem. After his comments really glad to see he is no longer involved in the competition. Hate it when people come off two face and don't man up. If you felt that way by week 4 you should have pulled out like some of the others.

@hezzart No some people like to say that the best way to do photography is with film. I hear that A LOT. With that logic the plate must have been far better than film. People completely disregard the fact that people were only limited to the technology of the time. If there's something better, naturally you will want to use that.

Is what hessel does really that illogical?
I saw him holding a medium format camera. Now I don't know if he uses medium format (or bigger) alot. But suppose he does. It definitely gives the photo's a different look. Different focal length, different perspective, different sensor size, the way things go out of focus is just not the same. Also the detail and resolution is insane.
Now look up the price of a phase 1, digital back for hasselblad etc................

@nikjeeeh You're right, medium format does give you a different look and the technical aspects are different. That's why sometimes people refer to 'the medium format look' when giving an opinion on for example a certain lens. The depth of field for an entire image gets shallower the larger the sensor is. Having said that, my medium-format camera's aren't of Hasselblad quality but still the negs look quite amazing.

@nikjeeeh If you're interested in a IMTP related medium-format shot, check out my 500px site (link in the description box). On there you'll see a shot for the 'erotica' episode (it's called 'we are alone.') that didn't make the deadline, I like it so much more than the fullframe negs I shot. And that one's not even shot at a sharper aperture, nor is it scanned with a high-quality scanner... just a reasonably-cheap flatbed negative scanner.
