Ryan got it through a blood transfusion that he received. He had several transfusions due to his hemophilia, unfortunately one contained blood donated from someone with aids.
he was given tainted blood products because he had a disease that required he take blood agents to encourage clotting. Brave little kid. All aids victims are innocent in my opinion.
He got AIDS from a blood transfusion because he was born with Haemophilia, a disease in wihich your blood clots very slowly due to a lack of the clotting factor Factor VIII.

Ryan was a sweet kid. For those who condemn the community, you have to remember the time period during which all this happened. In 1985, people did not know much about AIDS. No one knew for SURE that it couldn't be transmitted in other ways besides sexual contact. People were afraid. It's heartwrenching to think that if Ryan got AIDS now, he could've lived for 20 years instead of only five. Science and research have come a long way, but it takes time.

Ryan was born with a blood disease called Hemophilia. He had to take medicine that was made from other people's blood. He was infected with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) from some of that medicine because it was that tainted with the HIV virus. This happened because hospitals and laboratories at that time did not have good testing processes for HIV in blood products.

I read in his story that he was initially expelled from school when he tested positive for AIDs because there was still little known about AIDs and it was thought to be just a homosexual disease. When he was readmitted to school he faced resistance from parents and other faculty members. Its is really a sad story.

It was shocking and sad in the beginning and in the end. BUT! Ryan opened peoples eyes to not be so discriminating and assumptive about things they do not know about.
When he switched to Hamilton Heights High School in Hamilton County Indiana, he was greeted more openly by the student body... that was all he wanted.
He was a great kid and taught Americans and the world many things about life and fighting for your rights. Great Kid! Great Family! I will never forget him.

My borther had aids too. He was diagnosticated when he was 4 and died at 8. I have never lived with him, but he was at first also rejected from school. Later we won, but he was treated differently..I regret that I wasn`t older at that time.. :((

I was looking through the celb's who died young and came across this. It's so sad when you here of events like this one of Ryans. As I was watching it, I couldn't believe that I seen a clip from the film, I alway's remembered watching it. And that was sometime ago!! It was heart breaking watching the clips above of him in interviews. HOW BRAVE HE WAS. R.I.P

He was born with Hemophilia it's a rare bleeding disorder in which your blood doesn't clot normally.

Ryan got it through a blood transfusion that he received. He had several transfusions due to his hemophilia, unfortunately one contained blood donated from someone with aids.

I agree with Cathie but to me it just shows that people are so ignorant when something they do not know about can make them act in the way they did, and unfortunately still do. With this new flu pandemic how many people are going to be treated exactly how Ryan was. My son's fiancee is 7 months pregnant and unfortunately started sneezing whilst waiting in the doctors surgery for her midwifery appt. There were 5 pregnant women waiting, and 4 got up and walked out!!!. She had hay fever fgs.

sorry for your son's fiance. Yeah, I'm a nursing student and to me it is all so stupid. Just as many die from regular flu. leave it to the media!! I'm not convinced on the new flu vaccine though. They cut the processing time in half and I don't trust that at all. We are the guinea pigs for this new vaccine-scary!

Ryan was a sweet kid. For those who condemn the community, you have to remember the time period during which all this happened. In 1985, people did not know much about AIDS. No one knew for SURE that it couldn't be transmitted in other ways besides sexual contact. People were afraid. It's heartwrenching to think that if Ryan got AIDS now, he could've lived for 20 years instead of only five. Science and research have come a long way, but it takes time.

When I first heard about Ryan White and his story I couldn't believe that his whole school and town turned against him for something that they should have known wasn't his fault. They treated the poor kid like he had the plague. I wonder what some of the bumf*ck residents of the town had to say when it was made public that AIDS wasn't all that contagious.

Ryan was born with a blood disease called Hemophilia. He had to take medicine that was made from other people's blood. He was infected with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) from some of that medicine because it was that tainted with the HIV virus. This happened because hospitals and laboratories at that time did not have good testing processes for HIV in blood products.

I never really knew his significance until today. I was only 4 when he died in 1990.
I read in his story that he was initially expelled from school when he tested positive for AIDs because there was still little known about AIDs and it was thought to be just a homosexual disease. When he was readmitted to school he faced resistance from parents and other faculty members. Its is really a sad story.
