  • Been a while since I've heard this one. Thanks for the tune !!

  • Love this song..Brings back so many memories

  • still have this on plactic, bout wore the groove off it!

  • The river as a metaphor for life.

  • Simply Amazing song. These musicians are so talented, but what blows me away is how in sync they were and how much they apparently enjoyed performing together. Bravo !!!!

I have been looking for a video of them playing "Just Before the News" Anyone know it? It is a short song, less than 2 minutes but a perfect demonstration of how the group jams. It is incredible

  • This song reminds me of their other lessor known, but quite beautiful song, Loggins and Messina's - Brighter Days

  • i love this its brill puts u in the mood for everything

  • Loggins and Messina tunes. Truly a different time, truly different music. However, like all things we treasure, it never disappoints

  • I grew up in Seattle. I attended a Boy Scout camp on the Oregon Coast when I was 15, and learned this song the first time. For some reason, when traveling through Oregon, especially on the coast, that's where I associate this song with.

  • this is a true classic! Talk about aging myself lol. This is one of those tunes that is hard to resist and seems to just get better as time goes on :-)

  • they just don't make music like this anymore..sad.

  • Always felt really that Kenny Loggins was at his very best with Jimmy Messina, "sittin in".

  • Magic.

  • Lyrics are absolutely sublime.

  • When it came out: 11th grade. San Fernando Valley. Brings tears to my eyes. Great song. Thanks for posting this.

  • 11th grade. San Fernando Valley. Thanks for posting this.

  • Jill Hoke, Perry Durkee and myself did an amazing version of this song in 1977. I wish I had a copy of our version. This song is so beautiful. Thanks to sunnychopper82 for putting it up here. It just made my Friday :)

  • What a beautiful song to listen to in the car as you pass by the nature just outside your car! Better yet, go camping in the wilderness, and play this around the campfire! If you live in the city, let it transport you to the river of learning that teaches you about the human soul! A masterpiece! Love and Peace, BobbyK

  • Brings me back to my college days

  • When music had a loving soul.

  • I used to sing this song with a friend of mine who lost her life to muscular dystrophy, thank you for bringing back the good memories of her and I listening to this wonderful music...love and miss ya sandra, but I know you are no longer suffering my friend...as for me I hold onto the memories

  • I grew up listening to my family sing this at weddings. It always touched me deeply to hear their voices raised in harmony to sing such beautiful words. Thanks for sharing this and bringing back some great memories! I love Loggins & Messina

  • When I got home in 74 I played this song over and over. It saved my sanity.

  • i remeber as a little girl id watch this commercial and feelig so free that i still remeber it 10 years later

  • Opening lyrics are perfect for Valentine s Day . If youve been thinking youre all that youve got then dont feel alone any more. When were together then weve got a lot , cos Iam the river and you are the shore .....

  • So many memories. 1973 So long ago.

  • This song is just so amazing! Always loved this song!! Takes me back to better days. This song takes me back to days of true happiness and innocence. I miss those days. My heart just aches for those days so much. What a time that was! Never to be forgotten! There was a magic in the air back then that you just cant feel today and that is a real shame. This song is pure magic in itself!! Missing those days but hold the memories in my heart forever!! ☺♥

  • @awesomeeras131 ... touchee

  • Beautiful tune . Many memories here

  • An other great classic

  • At my school we sing it all the time, but hearing the original song... I prefer my classmate to sing it. Still love the song though...

  • 2 people fell into the river

  • @tuckers02 2 people can't swim

  • When I last listened to this song....I was a wild young guy. Thanks for posting.

  • Full Sail was such a great album. This song is awesome. It still strikes a sentimental cord.

  • This was one of two songs that I insisted the band learn for our wedding. 'Wake the Bard' from the Lake Arrowhead area, Calif. did a fine rendition of this...It sounded nice on the hammered dulcimer. The other one was 'What a Wonderful World. 'Wake the Bard' MADE our wedding!

  • I almost chose this one for my Wedding song. I just love it. Brings back so many great memories

  • thanx very much for uploading!

  • Saw these guys in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. Jim Croce was the warm up. Great Concert.

  • Man these guys gave me so many hours of pure musical bliss.

  • This song always makes me feel good!

  • These guys were so good.Very underrated. Thanks for putting this on.......I hadn't heard it in years.

  • I've owned this album since it was first released..have never stopped listening to it.

The musicianship, the vocals, the arrangement...and the writing of it....

...just simply amazes me .. a masterpiece.

...makes me proud to be a human.

  • @MESAVELLA ....Amen Brother!!!

  • @MESAVELLA me2

  • Kenny can really write beautiful ballads. Great song.

  • If your looking for Kenny Loggins "Danny's Song" this is it!!!!!

  • nash was with the hollies in the day , crosby and ethridge - the Byrds - ethridge later on joined flying burrito brothers and then steve stills mannas - best poco LP - hands down - poco 2nd album featuring you 'better think twice ' - just check out how they do the cut Nobody's Fool/El Tonto de Nadie, Regresa - prime .

  • me too - thanks - good job

  • Always loved this song!

  • Loggins and Messina were so great together! They wrote many beautiful songs. I don't know why they broke up. Loggins went on with his career, but I don't remember hearing much about Messina after that. I know he came from an earlier group, but cannot remember the name. Can anyone out there help me to remember this?

  • @keaster55 - Jim Messina was with Buffalo Springfield from '66 thru '68, then with Poco from '68 thru '90, and during '71 thru '76 he was also with Loggins and Messina. All great groups. Very impressive!

  • @violetjm Thanks for letting me know. I loved Buffalo Springfield, but could only remember Steven Stills from that group. Liked Poco song Going to a Hoedown. I'm glad he didn't fade into obscurity after Loggins went solo.

  • @keaster55 - Search "Poco - Follow Your Dreams" to see Jim Messina singing lead with Poco. Also, in the comments section, there's a lot of Poco history. As for Buffalo Springfield, I remember Neil Young and Stills, but didn't know until recently that Messina was ever with them. Now I'll keep an eye out for him. If you check out "Follow Your Dreams," watch the looks between Messina and the mandolin player (Randy Meissner?) The joy of music shows in their faces.

  • @violetjm Thanks for the info! I didn't even know Neil Young was in Buffalo Springfield. I only really listened to the one song, For What It's Worth. Had it on a 45 rpm single. I'll be sure to check out Follow Your Dreams. Peace!

  • How can such an old song sound so new!

Some artist should cover this song.Sometimes older is better!!

  • Thisi is a truly masterpiece and one of the most beautiful ballad that I ever heard.

  • Such beautiful harmonies.

  • If you like this (like I do) you might also check out Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (or just the 'Dirt Band'), some of Simon & Garfunkel's work and Poco.

  • I saw thier last tour in Kansas City. My gosh, what a loss. I loved them so! Awesome, innovative musicians. Long live Loggins and Messina.

  • wow...

  • Loggins & Messina bring back memories of my high school years; all their songs are great -- especially this one!

  • A shame that more people don't know about Loggins and Messina - long before Kenny Loggins did his power pop stuff from the 1980's he and Jimmy Messina were offering some really, really beautiful music. This is one of the finest examples ...

  • The most beautiful song ever.

  • Always brings me back

    Thank you

  • Haven't heard this one in such a long time and it's such a great song. Thanks for this one.

  • Saw them at Jone's Beach last night.

    They were fabulous!

I think this was their first song.

    Sweet video.

    Thanks!

  • I'm 14 now but when I was a kid we lived right by a river in Washington. It was so beautiful. My parents always used to play Loggins and Messina. This song makes me think of my childhood :] And House at Pooh's Corner of course.

  • The song for my son has always been House at Pooh Corner. And the one for my daughter has always been Brown Eyed Girl. :)

  • I had the distinct pleasure of seeing these guys in concert more years ago than i'd care to admit. It was fresh and new and very, very good. But they only had a hours worth of material to play. It was over too soon. But,the memory is quite fresh when stirred.

  • Like man, do you know "Free Bird"? I get so sick of that crap. Nothin against the Brothers but L&M were the best group of their time. Great musicianship, great lyrics. They were in a class all their own,

  • I would have loved to have this played at my dads funeral, but my mom was having none of my suggestions. Maybe I'll get it played at mine.

  • Nemafann, she should've taken your suggestion. It would have been a beautiful song of celebration of a loved one's life. Make sure somebody plays it for remembrance of you at your rebirth. Love.

  • bpd, I wish she would have picked this, but she didn't think it was appropriate. I also wanted The Long and Winding Road because my dad loved that song.

As I am Buddhist I have to have some things done at my funeral, but I told my husband I want this played at some point. Cheers

  • Beautiful tune. Outstanding lyrics.

  • wow....just wow....the year I graduated and went to SE Asia....what a memory w/ Log & Mess!

  • welcome home

  • I knew this was from something I remembered. A Shirley Temple thing before Mrs Doubtfire, right?

  • It took me years to figure out the song. It always made me cry. Clearly, I'm over emotional! =)

  • My daughter and I went to their concert last week in Durham N.C. and we both had tears in our eyes. Her very first concert was Kenny Loggins back in the late seventies with me when she was about twelve years old. These guys play straight to your heart. They had one of the best bands ever.

  • omg i remember this from the previews of the Heidi Collection; just right before Mrs. Doubtfire. but whose singing that version?

  • I've been looking for this song for a long time. It's used in a montage of Fox films in the previews right before Mrs. Doubtfire. And it would always make me cry as a kid. Fantastic song. Amazing.

  • Holy cow, that's how I always remembered it as well! XD Love it.

  • one of my favorite songs ever!!!

  • ...for God has set eternity in mens hearts...

    Ecclesiastes

  • mozdickson= excellent quote, fits very

    nicely with this song.

  • I had to sing this song when i graduated from 5th grade

  • 0:10 to 0:18 that flute was solo was perfect

  • Very beautiful song.

  • were did you get those pic's of those river they look familer

  • awe it takes me back

  • my teacher mrs. Vega would sing this song and it is better than this version

  • You know something Sunny, I think you just built the perfect video!! I've seen other good L&M videos, but they show Loggins and Messina as they currently are. They look like dried prunes. (I'm sure I do as well!) Full Sail was the first vinyl disk I ever bought! You've put clever video clips in, without over doing them. And the river scenes are super nice. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us!!

    //Vic

  • who sang the version that was on the shirley temple videos?

  • i dont think anyone knows... the closest ive heard was anne murray its hard to find though and clearly not the same.

who knows maybe shirley temple sang the version on the commercial

  • Jim Messina is HOT.

  • I have spent many a day carrying this tune in my head, as I move around trying to get things done.

  • SHIRLEY TEMPLE!

  • I remember the commercial with this song in it.

  • After Danny's and Pooh Corner...........this became my all-time favorite Loggins and Messina song.................same simplicity, but written 20 years later in a more complex period. Full Sail had a much more relaxed feel that most of the stuff in this era for them.

  • Wow! The song reminds me of the wonderful river we had in our place in Palawan, Philippines.

  • Beautiful..love you Ed

  • nice relaxing pix. Thx. Love the song and harmony

  • The good old days!

  • This song reminds me of my all too short marriage. With love to my estranged wife-Diane. It was my immaturity that was our downfall. She was wonderful. Love, Jim

  • i love this song its on all the sherly temple movies iv'e listened to this song since i was three, with my grandma, this song is so important to me

  • now this song makes me high as well you know and my parrot loves it he sits on my shoulder and chirps and really wants me to dance and sing (feathered prozac) well he has good taste and L/M still rock

  • hahha aw.

  • Robert DEL Tredeci where are you? (holly) from the Almost Bridges of Madison County .......... still in Clw Fla this is our River Song....4 ever cant you just feel the bubbling twrling water and look into the pools of 1979

  • They did this song on one of the late night shows (Midnight Special, etc) as a tribute to the late Jim Croce. Can't hear this now without thinking of him.

  • I had this on vinyl when it first came out. Vinyl is what we had in the olden days for you kids. I now have it as a CD and IMHO I think this is one of the best albums ever recorded. I know time change but I don't get rap and this other stuff that now passes as music. I like the old days.

  • This marvellous song is 35 years old! Incredible! One of my favourites from L&M!

Thanks for sharing this with me, my friend. And thank you for your thoughtfulness to me at all times.

And you have done everything right.....

  • mesmerizing. the melodic lines gets you afloat the crystal cascading waters by the river. the experience is truly exhilirating.

  • A life time ago, I was a DJ in a club in the last 70's. If you want a really great, and romantic pairing, play this, followed by Nicolette Larson singing "French Waltz."

  • This I like very much.

  • Full Sail is a beautiful album. Sitting in is a classic but full sail has some really good jams POCO style. I have seen them 3 times including Thanksgiving at Madison Square Garden. Great band and music!!! Nice video!!!

  • ' Vintage " music from Loggins and Messina, but still one of my favorites to this day... Nice job.. beautiful... Thank you for posting

  • Nice job...one of my favorite songs

  • Beautiful.
